While looking around I found evidence that this has happened to other cars parked here. The thieves stole an antique GPS and two dollars out of the cup holder. They didn't even take the external antenna this old GPS needs in order to work. They had piled up lots of valuable stuff I had in the car but were apparently scared away and left it all behind. The LEO and I have a good idea why the goblins ran away without the loot. Another car nearby had been left unlocked, they cleaned him out but didn't break his windows. It was hilarious watching people discover the dispensers. The universal reaction was, "WTF?" and then laughter. No one was sure whether the implication was that we can't be trusted--despite having TWO signs inside the bathrooms--to wash our hands (which is our employer's business how, exactly? we're not working with food), or whether we're all so dim that we can't buy our own hand sanitizer if we want some. I'm sure it was meant to be helpful, but the placement is just bizarre, and the whole concept is vaguely insulting. Also inconvenient, because it's located exactly where I usually push to open the door. The Hand Sanitizer Man! I was sitting down to a fast-food mean in Hollywood California... right on Sunset Blvd. As I dug into my food, this man made a quick round through the joint... advertising his services, for free... but donations were appreciated. He had 4 types of hand sanitizers to choose from... but it was the pitch, cape, and he threw on these "special" sunglasses just for the photo. got milk? a milking demonstrations for an audience of Orange County city slickers. I love the look on his face. He looks startled or something... i grew up on a dairy farm (we didn't own it, i just worked there as a "hired hand") in Kirkville New York and I can honest say that i have seen my fair share of milk cows. I started working there at age 13 and the farm i worked on had about 150 head of cows (actually the whole cows, not just their heads. heads is a figure of speech) that were milked twice daily. My primary chores was to do the following; feed calves in the morning (4am start), bed down the cows & calves, clean the $#!+ gutters and then run the "honey wagon" out to the fields... all of this happened before heading to school. Many mornings I barely had enough time to shower and catch the school bus. Then i would come home from school and work at the barn again and this time i would; clean and bed down the cows, feed the cows silage, feed the calves again, clean the milk room. On (many) Sundays i got to do the milking also because the owners would go off to the lake for their only day off. We also bailed hay and straw in the summer and put hay bails up into the loft. That is serious hard work! it was a good life and now i'm an OC city slicker... but i know what hard work is and i (now) appreciate having that working life early on. burping 0649 Coolant drain and flush – let the games begin! I drained the coolant and saved it for recycling. It has been in the car for nine years – oh how time flies! Several years ago I did add a bottle of corrosion inhibitor to it as I knew this big job was coming… Draining is easy on this car. I did pull the heater hose at the water pump to allow air in for easier draining. Old stuff did not look too bad. Yellowish green, no big rust issue thank goodness. I refilled with water, ran it & drained it a couple times to remove as much coolant as possible, as the block drain plug was hard to get to and I knew this engine was not too nasty inside. When all was clear, I put 2 bottles of Prestone super flush in the radiator and filled it with water. I used a screwdriver lodged in the heater hose connection to ‘burp’ the air out as it ran. I drove the car about 25 miles over the next week for a good cleaning. Ford Sierra 2.0i EFi GLS (1987) engine bay A Nice and clean 'I4' sohc engine. This is in my '87 Sierra however this engine itself dates back to around 1970 first appearing in the MK3 Cortina. Its proper name is the EAO OHC T-series but is better known as the 'pinto'. 6. Research cleaning I looked at my bathroom and decided that it really needed cleaning. Was a case of doing anything rather than tackle work! I cleaned the floor, shower, sink and toilet, put out new towels and a new soap and sorted and binned old make-up. Very therapeutic :-) I then wanted to hoover the rest of the house but decided that at 11.30pm it was a little too late and might not really be appreciated by the neighbours. As for work stuff - went to the office today and spent some time reading through an interview transcription. Everytime I look through a different transcription I seem the tackle the process differently....how on earth am I going to justify it!? How to Make Jam or is it jelly? or preserve? or marmalade? Anyways, M planned a very fun activity for J's bridal shower. Was it easy? Yes. Will I do it again? No. While it wasn't hard, it requires one too many things to wash afterwards and it's not instantly satisfying. What if I wake up and think, I want jam/jelly but I have to make it? It'll be ready tomorrow? No. But now I know how to do it...so....yay. "I promise I won't take the tattoo off," she said. At his level, and upon closer inspection... yes that boy seriously needed more than water and a hanky... he needed a full blown bath... probably 3-4 of them, but Portia could only do so much. Tau Haalan shook his head, shruging up to the big man. "Sorry fella, not gonna be tonight. But tomorrow or the night after surely." he pulled a card, and handed up to the man. "Tonight is about family. Speaking of... who are you guarding? The Mayor himself?" Sterling Coakes took the card, reading it before he dug his hand deep into his pocket. He closed his coat over him to keep himself warm, which was easy with the many layers of clothing he wore. "Nah, you're alright then, tomorrow's fine," he replied. "As for whom, I have no idea. S'up to the mayor. He also asked me if I did...wet jobs.." he paused, looking at the children and at Portia for a moment, before his gaze rested back on Tau. "Maybe even Sil, I suppose. But we can catch up later tomorrow then." Portia Kass wasn't paying too much attention to the conversation floating between the two men behind her, she gathered that it was something business related and tonight, that was the farthest thing from her mind. At teh forefront of her mind was getting the little bugger in front of her, one or two shades closer to his actual skin color. Tau Haalan nods at the man, glancing at hte others, then back. "Wet job, hm? I offered myself up as general muscle to his needs as well, for side cash... but he wasn't so forward for me. Then again, I hired on specifically to guard Portia." Jaina Lefevre glances up at Sterling at that one, her expression shifting from "sugar-rush child" to "inquisitive intelligence". She looks from Sterling to Tau and tips her head, obviously listening - and more oddly still, obviously 'getting it'. River Grau frowned and eyed the cup of water in Portia's hand. "Fine.. Go an' was off the dirt but dun' hurt the tattoo. I dunno how to get 'nother one unless I pay the lady again an' I dun' wanna do that. I'm savin' my monies from my jobs." Sterling Coakes nodded his head slowly. He folded his arms across his chest, breathing in for a moment. "Well, I better leave you to it then, Tau," he said, looking over at Naomah for a moment. "We'll talk more deeply about this later, for now, you all enjoy yourself, you hear?" He forced a smile, tipping his hat to them in his courteous manner, before turning away. "Cheerio!" he waved over his shoulder. Portia Kass smiled victoriously and re-wet the handkerchief. She placed her fingertips lightly under River's chin and looked him in the eyes. "I promise, the tattoo stays in tact." Every other spot on his face, however, was about to get mercilessly clobbered by water and cloth, and Portia tried her best to get as much grime and stickiness off of him as the hanky would allow. It involved a lot of re-wetting and sometimes pressing a bit harder than she really liked to, but over all her touch was gentle for the most part. She paid particular attention to the boy's mouth but was very careful not to touch the skull as she'd promised. When she was more or less satisfied with it... (she would have needed soap and some rather harder scrubbing to get him truly clean) she picked up his hands one by one and started going to town on them. When it was all over, the hanky was gray all over. Portia dunked the whole thing in the water cup and then rang it out over the grass and spread it across the table to dry, then dumped the murky water into the grass as well. Tau Haalan watched Niobe come and go, blinking. He also nodded his goodbye to the big man, offering him a wave. "Take care man, I'll be in touch." Final Splurge Active Assignment Weekly: April 18 - April 25: Pour Me a Drank! (No it's not a typo...read it with a "ghetto" twang ;-) The assignment is to take a photo of a drink. Alcoholic, non-alcoholic, hot, cold, shaken, or stirred, just make it pretty! I have had a few submissions lately that have really given me a love for this type of photography, and I hope to spread that love! Restriction: Keep it simple, with no distracting elements that don't tie in with your drink. This means NO human element (not even a hand!) Dare: Make it ad worthy! WIT: I had this idea in my head all week to mess around with a shot glass and some brightly coloured liquids. I decided the perfect place to attempt this was the bath tub using shower gels etc. so easy to clean up. I had shot glasses lined up with colours, the same shot glass with different liquids stratisfied and this is what led to this shot. I tipped the shot glasses and allowed the colours to run and mix.
