I'm a really tired girl now. Training with la-Cour for the first time in ages (it felt like ages). Pushing each other on the treadmill. 10,6km in 75min. Not a record time, but the 10km is really a huge thing for me!

Marine Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion
Marines with HMM-264 perform routine maintance on a CH-53E.
The CH-53 Sea Stallion is the most common name for the Sikorsky S-65 family of heavy-lift transport helicopters. Originally developed for use by the United States Marine Corps, it is also in service with Germany, Iran, Israel, and Mexico. The United States Air Force operated the HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant during the late- and post-Vietnam War era, updating most of them as the MH-53 Pave Low.
The dimensionally-similar CH-53E Super Stallion is a heavier-lifting, improved version designated S-80E by Sikorsky. Its third engine makes it more powerful than the Sea Stallion, which it has replaced in the heavy-lift mission.
Development
In 1960, the United States Marine Corps began to seek a replacement for their HR2S piston-powered helicopters. On 27 January 1961, the Marine Corps began working with the other three U.S. armed services on the Tri-Service VTOL transport, which would eventually emerge as the Vought-Hiller-Ryan XC-142A tiltwing. The design became more elaborate and the program stretched out, causing the Marines to drop out when they decided they would not receive a working machine in a satisfactory timeframe. In the end, the XC-142A, although a very innovative and capable machine, never entered production.
In March 1962, the US Navy's Bureau of Naval Weapons, acting on behalf of the Marines, issued a request for a Heavy Helicopter Experimental / HH(X). The specifications dictated a load capability of 8,000 pounds (3,600 kg) with an operational radius of 100 nautical miles (190 km; 120 mi) at a speed of 150 knots (280 km/h; 170 mph). The HH(X) was to be used in the assault transport, aircraft recovery, personnel transport, and medical evacuation roles. In the assault transport role, it was to be mostly used to haul heavy equipment instead of troops.
In response, Boeing Vertol offered a modified version of the CH-47 Chinook; Kaman Aircraft offered a development of the British Fairey Rotodyne compound helicopter; and Sikorsky offered what amounted to a scaled-up version of the S-61R, with twin General Electric T64 turboshafts and the dynamic system of the S-64, to be designated the "S-65". Kaman's proposal quickly died when the British government dropped its backing of the Rotodyne program. Competition between Boeing Vertol and Sikorsky was intense, with the Chinook having an advantage because it was being acquired by the United States Army. Sikorsky threw everything into the contest and was awarded the contract in July 1962.
The YCH-53A prototype in 1964The Marines originally wanted to buy four prototypes but ran into funding problems. Sikorsky, determined to keep the deal, cut their estimate for development costs and said that the program could be done with two prototypes. The military bought off on the proposal, and in September 1962 Sikorsky was awarded a contract for a little under US$10 million for two "YCH-53A" prototypes, as well as a mockup and a ground-test airframe.
The development program did not go entirely smoothly, due to a shortage of engineering resources plus various failures of subcontractors and the government, but these problems were gradually overcome. There was also the problem that U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara was pushing to maintain commonality between the armed services by using the Chinook, but the Marines managed to convince McNamara's staff that the Chinook could not meet their requirements without numerous expensive changes.
All these obstacles overcome, the first YCH-53A performed its initial flight at the Sikorsky plant in Stratford, Connecticut, on 14 October 1964, about four months behind schedule. The Marines had already placed an initial production contract for 16 helicopters in September. Flight trials went more smoothly than expected, helping make up for the lost time in development. It received the military designation and name CH-53A Sea Stallion. Delivery of production CH-53s began in 1966.
The CH-53A arrived in Vietnam in January 1967 and proved useful, eventually recovering even more downed aircraft than the CH-54. A total of 141 CH-53As were built, including the two prototypes.[1] The United States Navy acquired 15 CH-53As from the USMC in 1971 for airborne mine countermeasures (AMCM) activities. The helicopters had more powerful T64-GE-413 turboshafts installed and the received the designation RH-53A.
The United States Air Force ordered the HH-53B in September 1966 and first flew on 15 March 1967. It added a refueling probe, drop fuel tanks and a rescue hoist and featured upgraded T64-GE-3 engines. The Air Force used the HH-53B for combat search and rescue (CSAR). HH-53C was an improved CSAR variant with a smaller 450 US gallons (1,700 L) for improved performance. It also added more armor and better communication systems. The CH-53C was similar except it lacked a refueling probe. It was used by the USAF for more general transport work.

Day 880 - Day 150
Personal Goal for 2011: I will teach myself the principles and practices of Six Sigma, developing my career path into Project Management for United Healthcare.
Some people watch TV on a treadmill, some people listen to MP3 players, and some people read. I do all three. And like any classic intelligence-based person, I’m always trying to improve myself in some way or another. It’s the perfect self-improvement because you lose weight and burn calories while expanding your mind and you can listen to music.
I have always loved project management; the data and statistical analysis just seem to come easy to me. I’d absolutely love to get into a Six Sigma program. For those who do not know what Six Sigma is, it’s basically a school of management that looks to make improvements to a process or a department by eliminating defect. The analysis that goes with this job is complex, but I love it. You of course have to get into the program, and so until that happens I’m studying everything I can get my hands on. I am always looking to expand my horizons!
I’m probably in the minority, being someone who loves the company that they work for, United Healthcare . I love what the company does for people and for the industry, and all I want to do is get into a good position with the company, making a great company even better!
January 5, 2009
So today I went back school. It was okay, good thing I skipped out period 4 and 6 since had volunteering. Volunteering was good, the usual.
Then after, went to the Y. Jogged on treadmill for 30 minutes. Felt good, Somehow I felt like I should have pushed myself more because I feel like my hearts not even pumping hard, but my mind is like "stop already!" haha, yenno what I mean?
But anyways these are the shoes I always use to workout with. I had these since Freshmen year cross country. Still in good condition and very comfy. These are pumas by the way.
The shoes represent me in a way where I know I can always run and never stop. Always pursue my dreams and goals and a mind that is disciplined. Its a new year, and I really wanna lose weight, get a A for trig, and study study. There's alot of goals for me, I don't wanna say it here though lol.
Mkays, peace! Time to do homework and study math...then sleep early :D

Abandoned track?
One thing that makes this abandoned track shot different from other abandoned track shots is that the track isn't actually abandoned. In fact, it sees five round trips a week. Note the nose of the unit sitting way down the track in this shot. There are two units waiting at the CSX diamond for Monday to get here so the crew can slowly take their train along these rails toward Chadbourn, NC.
It was pointed out on Carolina Rails by Warren Calloway that ACL used to run passenger trains on this line. My guess is that they ran on these actual, literal rails. A few miles past the power down the line, the rails are unused and under weeds. A little way below that, rails have actually been taken up after being abandoned in the 1980s.

Group Leader Manual Cover - comp1
This is a comp of the final rough design for our group leader manual.
This manual will be given out to approximately 160 small group leaders of all ages and life stages. It will also be given to any new group leaders when they start groups.
I went with a blueprint/notebook type design because inside the manual is basically a how-to guide on small group leadership...a blueprint for group health basically. Also chose a humorous yet serious approach to "disarm" a potential group leader.
This is close, but not complete. Thoughts?
EDIT: This is 8.5" x 11" white spiral-thingee bound.

Brrrr. Unitards in the snow can get mighty chilly. I stopped to warm up by the fire with Annmarie Valentine, who had been walking on that treadmill for god knows how long. I told her she looked fine in her unitard, but I guess she didn't believe me.

Whimsy at Aqua Dog Flanders, NJ
I just got a Flip Video camera over Xmas and I have been trying to mess around with it a little. This is my FIRST video on Flickr. I am moving up.
In January I took Whimsy to Tog Dog Obedience Training School in Flanders, NJ. We had a fabulous time. I didn't have a tripod yet so I didn't get any video of that... however.....
After our novice lesson we went to Aqua Dog. Petra Ford's conditioning and rehabilation center. IT WAS WONDERFUL. It takes about 3 plus hours to get there but well worth the drive for both of these amazing places.
This is Whimsy enjoying the treadmill. She was crying to get in. She loves her water.
peanut walks
Peanut, our German shorthair, walks on the treadmill. Only took 3 weeks.
