Gaudi House-Museum The Casa-Museu Gaudi, is located within the grounds of the Park Guell, in Barcelona, having been inaugurated as a museum on 28 September 1963. History [edit] Eusebi Guell, industrial imaginative, after a stay in England, on his return to Barcelona, wanted to make a garden city for the Catalan bourgeoisie, bought the farm land and hired Muntaner among other to Antoni Gaudi to planning the construction project of sixty houses with a garden and all the necessary services. Of these homes were built three, the very Eusebi Guell, Dr. Trias Maxencs and which is now the Casa-Museu Gaudi, the project made by architect Francesc Berenguer, Josep built by the contractor and signed Pardo i Casanovas by Gaudi himself, was carried out as pilot-house for future construction, that because of the First World War, 1914 and died in 1918 of Eusebi Guell, was discontinued development project. Distractions I have had much to do with bookshelves lately. I bought four "Billy" bookcases from IKEA in Bristol before moving, and assembled them when I got to the new house. Actually I had wanted them in a rather fetching shade of green but these had been out of stock, so I settled for this dignified maroony red. I hoped they would hold all my books but they didn't. They might have if more shelves had been provided. Each bookcase could easily have held at least one more shelf of books, if not two. I was left with a lot of ugly unused space above each row of books. I decided to buy another bookcase to provide extra shelves ...well worth it for ?35. I would then saw lengths from my old bookshelves (cannily salvaged from the other house) and fit them into the bookcase's empty carcase. Unfortunately my old shelves were black, a relic of the 1980s "black ash" craze, but as this extra bookcase would now have to go in "my" room upstairs, this was of little consequence. I drove 90 miles to my closest IKEA branch, at Edmonton in north London. The red "Billy" bookcases had been discontinued. So I bought a new addition to the "Billy" range ...a decidedly funky affair with designs like paper doilies all over it, on a black background. Delivery, with a rug, another bookcase for Mrs B. and two small chests of drawers, was ?102. I have decided to keep the funky bookcase entire and use my old black shelves to provide extra capacity in my main downstairs bookcases. I shall use them close to the floor where they will be less conspicuous. I am now in the middle of a great reorganisation of the Bentos library. With shelf depth now reduced it is less easy, with books of varying height, to keep related subject-matter together. Achieving the highest possible shelf-subject denominator is a satisfying logistical exercise. There are constant distractions however. Clear Satin Topcoat Gel Stain, Quart These oil-based Gel Topcoats and Stains are quite possibly the easiest of all finishes to use and achieve a "hand-rubbed" look without all the work. Application is easy with a foam brush or lint free cloth. The heavy bodied gel formulation permits the product to flow out evenly (no drips or runs) preventing uneven penetration for consistent color control. Gel Topcoat may be used to top coat any stain. I might spend my life humming along with the drone of the dryer or the dishwasher. I might curse out loud and scream and kick the furniture when I'm having a bad day. I might wrap myself in a hand-made quilt and let wave after wave of nostalgia wash over me and start to drown me bit by bit as the start of winter comes along year after year. I may play my music too loud when I'm feeling lonely, just so that I know there is something taking up space in my bones. I am starting to be okay with this. I am starting to be okay with the feeling of being alone. I am in love, oh so very much in love. But I am not yet in love with myself and I find flaw in that. There is also a pain in that which runs so deep and I can no longer even start to comprehend that. Today, for the first time in a long time, I started to feel something that has been growing inside of me for years. Although I have taught myself to push the most painful part of myself away and deep inside, there are times, very rarely are there these times, but they are still there - when I cannot ignore it for another moment and in the time it takes you to blink your eyes, I feel something. It sturs up something horrible and something beautiful and for days on end it haunts me. Today I felt something and now I know there are more things to deal with than I had thought before. There is a part of me that won't let this be easy and I don't know how to fix this. But I am so in love and it hurts more and more each second and I feel like part of me is being ripped away and torn to bits while the rest of me is growing and smiling and laughing with the rest of the world. I can admit that I am in love only because of the second of clairty provided by the strange feeling of waking up on a Friday morning knowing that I had nothing to do. The sky was purple and the sun just hardly starting to rise and my dream was still vivid and true - dancing over my sheets and across my ceiling. Somehow I could still see the stars in the places they had been when I had fallen to sleep and for a moment I knew it to be true. There was this moment of undescribable clarity and my mind was able to comprehend, for the briefest moment, how all of this is possible. I have loved so much and there is still so much more inside of me. I'm not sure if I will ever be strong on my own two feet, with my own spinal cord holding me up for the world to see and my own two hands reaching out to grab onto life. I do not know if I will ever be strong because I am so dependant on other people and when they hurt I hurt. There is so much left inside of me and I know that I am in love and that for my whole life I will be in love and day after day I will feel like the chilled insides of winter because my mind cannot allow me to love anyone right now. After that moment of clarity was over chaos erupted inside of me and my brain is fraying around the edges and my heart is beating too fast and my body has gone haywire. I have to love but I can't let myself right now and therefore I can't figure out how to live because if I'm not giving love I'm not doing anything. Inside all of this terrible mess there is something telling me to step back and bit by bit untangle everything that has become a mess in the past years of my life. I feel like I'm moving backwards, but I know that I have to start somewhere and maybe somewhere is far from where I am right now. +more in comments sooc 365.146 HELP! I'm so sick of white walls! OK, here's the prob. My house is wide open...all the walls connect and have features that don't allow me to paint one wall one color and maybe another wall another color so much. SO...my walls are white. Boring. I need help deciding how to paint these walls...I am thinking that I'll extend the yellow from the kitchen up onto this big wall with the window and into the family room...the yellow is already on one wall in the family room - not pictured. It's a buttery yellow...I love it...not as sunshiney as it appears here. Anyhoo...I thought I'd paint the adjoining side walls - that go up the stairs and to the upstairs hall and loft, a sagey green. I was going to do a taupy beige but look at all the brown I already have...floor, couches, wood furniture. too much of the brown. The decorative ledges would also be the green - jutting out into the yellow where they attach to that wall. Does this make any sense? I would paint the ledges down the slanty part where it connects to the ceiling of the rooms (family and kitchen) below. Does that sound even remotely cool? Any better ideas? I'm not wanting to spend a bunch of money on paint and regret my decision...maybe I should hire a designer for an hour and get a professional opinion! Room 606: The Sas House and the Work of Arne Jacobson An intriguing look at the work of Danish architect and furniture designer Arne Jacobsen (1902-71) through a detailed study of his masterwork, the SAS House in Copenhagen, completed in 1960. Divided into chapters that examine Room 606, the only preserved area of the hotel and a 'time-capsule' of exquisite woodwork, furnishings, and custom fabrics and colour palette. Rediscovers a lost world of mid-20th century form and sensation through hundreds of rare archival photographs, original drawings and sketches, and specially commissioned, new colour photographs of Room 606. (12) noyé For the first time in the history of the Venice Biennale, two national pavilions will merge to present one single exhibition. The Danish Art Council‘s Committee for International Visual Arts and the Nordic Committee are honoured to announce that the artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset will curate both the Danish and the Nordic Pavilions at the Giardini, with a show titled ‘The Collectors’ stretching across the two neighbouring venues. Together with a selection of invited international artists, Elmgreen & Dragset will transform the existing architecture of the two pavilions into domestic settings, and invite the audience to be guests in a homely ambience. Here, dining rooms and bedrooms, furniture, fireplaces, a stained glass skylight and the artworks nestled within the households will reveal the uncanny stories of various fictional inhabitants, their obsessive characters and their diverse lifestyles. The public will be guided on a tour by a real estate agent through a ‘For Sale’ Danish Pavilion, and will be told the story of the Ingmar Bergman-style family dramas that used to haunt this house. A long swimming pool will lead the visitors to the neighbouring Nordic Pavilion – a flamboyant bachelor's pad. Inside they will encounter the domestic remnants of the mysterious Mister B, and be met by a group of young male hustlers sipping vodka tonics in an environment that could be a case study house motif taken from a David Hockney painting. As the title of the show indicates, the curators will approach the topic of collecting, and the psychology behind the practice of expressing oneself through physical objects. Why do we gather items and surround ourselves with them in our every day lives? Which mechanisms of desire trigger our selection? The selected artworks, alongside the interior design, kitchenware, clothing and even a collection of flies, will compose the complex narratives of this double exhibition. Through the house decor and the collection of artworks, the garments in the wardrobes, the porcelain in the kitchen and the books in the library, the identities of the fictional inhabitants, their passions and melancholy, will emerge piece by piece. ‘The Collectors’ is not a group show in the conventional sense. The pavilions will undergo a radical reconstruction, and more than twenty artists and designers of all ages, ranging from established to emerging ones, will contribute to creating a different kind of exhibition format, one that will appear closer to a film set than a conventional art display. The curators aim to establish a unique atmosphere of intimacy with their staged exhibition – one that can run counter to the official spectacle and formal nature of the Biennale – and, in close collaboration with the participating artists and designers, they hope to circumvent all the usual competitive aspects of the larger art even Denmark - Copenhagen - Orestad - Tietgen Dormitory 03 The Tietgenkollegiet by Lundgaard & Tranberg is one of my favourite new buildings in Orestad, Copenhagen. It may not be the most dramatic but it would seem to have formed a perfect little self-contained student community. From Wikipedia : "Its concept focuses on how the accommodation can help encourage the personal and social development of the students. The courtyard, around which all common areas are located, reinforces the idea of community. It also enables the often monotonous student corridor to become not only spatially interesting but unending, linking all student ‘houses’ on each floor. There are 360 rooms, 10% of which have been designated for international exchange students. The building is circular, with 6 floors and rooms set up in blocks of 12. Each room has its own washroom and there are four sizes to the rooms: 26 sq. metres, 29 sq. metres, 33 sq. metres, and 42 sq. metres, approximately. Each block has shared kitchen and living room, with each living room having a unique set of furniture and other items." house of denmark furniture This text reconstructs a building that no longer exists, in order to rediscover a lost world of beauty and sensation and gain a new insight into the work of Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. That building is the SAS House, a luxury hotel and airline terminal completed in Copenhagen in 1960. Designed for the Scandinavian Airlines System at the dawn of the jet age, the SAS House was Jacobsen's masterpiece, a cumulative work that condensed the architectural strategies and formal devices of a lifetime into a single example of total design. The SAS House has been reduced to a shadow of its original condition. While the building is still used as a hotel and ticketing office, the distinctive interiors and fixtures that were an integral part of Jacobsen's masterwork have been discarded or altered beyond recognition. However, on the sixth floor of the hotel tower, a single guest room remains in its original condition, with the built-in woodwork, furniture, custom fabrics and surfaces that Jacobsen created for the 275 rooms of the SAS Royal Hotel. Room 606 is a microcosm of the larger building, and, examined in detail, provides the key to understanding the SAS House and, by extension, the underlying themes of Jacobsen's entire career. This book presents a very distinct way of looking at an architect's work, using the time capsule room 606 as a lens through which to examine Jacobsen's entire career. This is reflected in the structure of the book. The chapters are organized thematically, and each is articulated into three sections, which examine each theme as it applies to room 606, the SAS House, and Jacobsen's entire work. This structure is emphasized by the design as well as the visual material, which are also articulated in the same tripartite way. This structure and insight into the Danish architect's work is brought alive by a wealth of visual material, including a stunning collection of black-and-white images taken shortly after the completion of the SAS House by renowned architectural photographer Aage Struwing, who collaborated with Jacobsen for more than two decades; a portfolio of specially commissioned colour photographs by Paul Warchol that underline the contemporaneity of room 606; as well as original sketches and architectural drawings, many of which have never been published. Distress THANKS I made this card last night to tell "THANKS" to all ladies in HA Flickr. Thanks for your attention for my SON Kevin Operation. Thanks for praying with me and my family and thanks for all your comment on the discussion thread I made about Kevin OP. How I made: I tear the white paper with my hand and stamped with Manuscript Background stamp and distress it with tea dye Distress Ink. Gave the Lily at the top of that paper. I see the Video from Tuesday and love to try it, but my TAG is not so pretty like Jennifer TAG. I stamped the Asian Frames more on on a piece of paper and using 3 Inks from Distress Ink (Green, brown and purple). I did the same like Jennifer Video shown. Stamped the soft brown paper with Manuscript background many times. Gave a bit Lily and crown with Memories brown ink. Stamped the button with Manuscript Bacground too and gave the flower a bit distress. Put the BALI coin on the top of the Tag and gave a rope on the TAG. Stamped the THANKS with CL137 on the top of the rest white paper (stamped with manuscript background) and cut it one by one. Embossing it with dry embossing tool (many line in the paper but maybe it is not shown good :( ). Stamp the BONJOUR in white and brown tea color. Then stamp each edge with LILIE, and distressing the edge with brown ink. Piercing the oval line, and gave a black pen on it ( I cant sewing and not sewing lady :( ). Stamp the Eiffel tower, masked it and stamp the Manuscript Background and embossing it with white powder. That little side table is actually a vintage pie safe that was also one of the Mondo's first antique/vintage purchases back in the day. I am blessed to be content. A lot of people dwell on things that they'd rather have or do or be. Our lil doll house never stood a chance. See that tiny little dollhouse on the left? Yep...that's the one Jane and I got for the kids for Christmas. See that monster one they are playing with...that's the one courtesy of my parents. :D hahaha. Poor little neglected house on the left. Sure it's a cute little tree house with a slide. But the big doll house has a toilet and an elevator!!! If I had to guess, i'd say the little one will find it's way over to the Goodwill donation center by say...June of 2009. The big one will probably still be around by next Christmas. It's a keeper! playing house On a whim, I got the kid's bedroom set of dollhouse furniture from Ryan's Room. I was going for the most open-ended since it will be months, if not a year before I can get a doll-house. I figured the people could camp out in the barn loft. It was an instant success! I ran to get the two little babies that I got just as a co-op fill. No question who slept here!! Just convinces me to save up for that doll-house! I can't wait to see the adventures he comes up with!
