The Sudetenland - Music Corner. Postkarte, Musikinstrumenten Fabrik Franz Michl, Klingenthal & Graslitz (Graslice) 1937

The Musical Instrument making area of the Vogtland , around Markneukirchen and Klingenthal stretched across the Czech-German border, the czech side being predominantly German speaking. The firm of Franz Michl had branches on both sides. The postmark was bi-lingual until October 1938 when all traces of the czech language were removed from the postal system in the Sudetenland and the Hindenburg stamps replaced those showing Czech heroes. 10 heller was equivalent to 1 pfennig.. The postcard firm of Gerhard Dick of Erlbach was located right beside the border and he also marketed photographs of the Bohemian area around Graslitz (Kraslice). A fine museum of Musical Instruments is still located in Klingenthal, a small town which formerly also operated trams.
The 1930s postage rate to EUROPE for postcards was 150 heller, but for neighbouring countries ,Germany certainly, a 120 heller rate obtained. Inland was 50 heller (100 heller = 1 Koruna or Crown)
