BUCKHEAD
One of the earliest settlements in Morgan County, the area around Buckhead was still in close proximity to Native American Territory in the early 1800s. According to local lore, a group of hunters tracking game crossed the Oconee River from Greene County and found this area to be ideal for settlement. To attest to their good fortune, the head of a buck deer killed by the hunters was hung in a tree.
Though the town of Buckhead was formally incorporated by the Georgia legislature in 1887 and recorded in 1908, the earliest documented reference to this community dates to 1819 in an account ledger for a general store located here. By 1823, a post office had been constructed, and by the 1830s, the Georgia Railroad came through Buckhead. A Methodist Church was organized in 1824, and a Baptist Church in 1890. A four-room school house that had ten grade levels, employed eight teachers, and possessed an auditorium was constructed in 1900.
Buckhead also enjoyed a thriving commercial center that included four general stores, two drug stroes, a bank, a cotton buyer's office, three restaurants, a barber shop, a livery stable and a hotel. Industries included a cotton gin, a grist mill, and a blacksmith shop.
Several large fires have taken their toll on Buckhead through the years destroying many of its old buildings. Additionally, the agricultural economy has shifted from cotton production to dairy operations.
BECAUSE OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO TAKE PRIDE IN THIS COMMUNITY, BUCKHEAD IS RECOGNIZED AS A SIGNIFICANT PART OF OUR COUNTY HISTORY

Anglesea Community Garden and Welcome to Country
Saturday dawned a cool and pleasant day, perfect for a midday gathering at the Anglesea Community Garden.
Many good, committed, local people have had a hand in bringing this vision and idea into reality.
Launched with a 'Welcome to Country' smoking ceremony with local Wathaurong elder, Dave Tournier from the Wathaurong Co-operative in Geelong - this event was my first 'Welcome to Country' since my arrival back from NZ to live permanently in Anglesea.
For me, in many ways, it's been like finally returning home - to a place my family has known and lived in for many generations.
Spaces like this are necessary, for binding people together, to give us all a place to literally and metaphorically put our roots down - to rest, renew and nurture our spirits. We live in an ever-increasingly fast paced world - one that often forgets that rest and renewal are the antidote to speed and progress. Finding balance, groundedness, seeing the fruits of your labour grow; building local resilience; tuning into the seasons and cycles of nature, understanding how to 'close the loop' and live more sustainably.
Coming here to reconnect with Country & with each other is what these community spaces are about - sharing knowledge, teaching and learning, feeling safe enough to give the best of ourselves... a heart-felt thank you to all those who have invested the time and effort to make this a vibrant place to connect.
A quick plug for the next event - Pizza in the Park, Saturday 19th Feb, 2011 - 7-9.30pm - pecha kucha style presentations, wood fire pizzas, live music - I know where I'll be... hope to see you there

Metamorphosis of the Fortis Empire (View in Large)
In late 2007, Fortis, along with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and Banco Santander, staged the largest banking acquitision ever when they jointly paid EUR 69-billion (USD $101-billion) to buy ABN AMRO Holding. Barely one year later, Fortis SA/NV was in financial ruin and was nationalized by Belgium. ABN AMRO's Dutch operations were sold to the Dutch government. Here is a brief timeline of the recent events:
November 2007: Royal Bank of Scotland, Fortis and Santander bought ABN AMRO Holding for EUR 69-billion (USD $101-billion).
2008: Banks around the world suffered massive losses (trillions of dollars, Pounds and Euros) from bad loans and bad investments.
2008-09-29: Fortis was on the brink of collapse. Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg jointly rescused Fortis by providing EUR 11.2-billion (USD $16.2-billion) in new capital.
-- Belgium bought 49% of Fortis Bank (Belgium) for EUR 4.7-billion
-- Netherlands bought 49% of Fortis Bank Nederland for EUR 4.0-billion.
-- Luxembourg bought 49.9% of Fortis Banque Luxembourg for EUR 2.5-billion
2008-10-03: Netherland revised its rescue by buying up all of Fortis Bank Nederland, Fortis' ownership in ABN AMRO Holding, as well as Fortis Insurance Nederland for EUR 16.8-billion. This new deal replaced the earlier deal to buy 49% of Fortis Bank Nederland for Eur 4.0-billion.
2008-10-05: Belgium stepped in a second time in a week and bought the remaining 51% of Fortis Bank (Belgium) for anther EUR 4.7-billion. The Belgian government now owned 100% of Fortis Bank Belgium at a cost of EUR 9.4-billion.
2008-10-05: Belgium and Luxembourg then worked out a deal with France's BNP Paribas to unload the nationalised banks to the French bank:
-- BNP Pairbas to buy 75% of Fortis Bank (Belgium) from the Belgian government and 67% of Fortis Banque Luxembourg (51% from Fortis SA, 16% from Luxembourg) for EUR 9.0-billion in BNP Paribas stock.
-- BNP Paribas to buy Fortis' insurance operations in Belgium for EUR 5.5-billion in cash.
2008-12-12: Belgian appeal court ruled that the sale of Fortis units to BNP Paribas was illegal and the Belgian prime minister had attempted to influence an earlier court decision. Belgian prime minister resigned because of the scandal. The original BNP Paribas deal died.
2008-12-22: To dissociate itself from the contaminated Fortis name, Fortis Bank Luxembourg changed its name to BGL (short form of Banque Generale du Luxembourg).
2009-03-08: Belgium and BNP Paribas agreed to a new deal:
-- Belgium to sell 75% of Fortis Bank to BNP Paribas for EUR 8.25-billion in BNP Pairbas stock. Fortis Bank holds 100% of Fortis Bank Belgium and 50.1% of BGL (formerly Banque Generale du Luxembourg).
-- BNP Paribas to buy 25% of Fortis Insurance Belgium from Fortis Holding for EUR 1.375-billion in cash.
(Belgium will continue to own 25% of Fortis Bank. The remaining Fortis Holding will own 75% of Fortis Insurance Belgium and 100% Fortis Insurance International (units outside of Belgium and Netherlands).
The 2009-03-08 agreement is subject to Fortis' shareholders approval.

I think this advertising campaign is tasteless and irresponsible. How are they possibly "investing" in Croydon? Most people already have enough debt. These posters are on the opposite side of the "Help Croydon's recovery" posters all over town, following the looting of 8th August 2011. This one is outside Croydon police station on Park Lane.

"The system we invest in, which was and remains the envy of the world, is an honor system. Our capital markets work because the basic theory of full disclosure by public companies of material information and financial statements provide an efficient market, the capacity to price and value the worth of the enterprise and allow us all to participate in the system by buying shares of public companies. We don't have government audits of public companies. We have a system that relies on a rule of law, standards, some liability in terms of private and class-action litigation in the event somebody breaks the rules. Reality, obviously on some level did not match the theory or we wouldn't be where we are today in terms of the succession of scandals."

Street Renamed Harold McKinney Way
(Detroit, MI) On Friday, September 4, 2009 at 12 Noon, Council Member JoAnn Watson and U.S. Congressman John Conyers dedicate a section of Randolph Street, Detroit, Michigan identified for Secondary Street renaming to "Harold McKinney Way" honoring one of Detroit's legendary jazz pianists, the late great Mr. Harold McKinney. This activity continues the work of Detroit City Council to acknowledge Detroit’s African American historical artistic and cultural contributions to present the fiber of Detroit culture. Council Member Watson, surmises, “Although many landmarks of Detroit’s cultural past have long been removed, the lifetime investments of quintessential musical artists and educators like Harold McKinney in today’s up and coming artists must not be forgotten. Harold McKinney’s legacy is embodied not only in the scope and depth of his musical compositions and his performance art, but also in the audience given young musicians. Harold McKinney developed a strong belief and commitment in the vitality African music traditions fostered and carried forth by African American composers and performers in the twentieth century. Mr. McKinney taught the musical craft and formula to both young and old interested in learning about their African heritage. Furthermore according to Michelle McKinney, “Harold, unknown to many, was a consummate lyricist as well as musicologist, teacher, composer, bandleader, etc. His lyrics to “Song For My Father,” “7 Steps,” and “Straight No Chaser” rivals anyone else’s lyric writing.” Family and friends are expected to attend the formal ceremony taking placed in Detroit’s Paradise Valley. Among those anticipated are: Jahra Michelle McKinney, Harold McKinney’s wife, Gaylelynn McKinney, Harold McKinney’s daughter, Kenneth McKinney, Harold McKinney’s brother, and Carlos “Los DaMystro” McKinney, Harold McKinney’s nephew. Location: Beatrice Buck Park on Randolph Street in Paradise Valley (formerly Harmony Park) between Grand River Avenue and Gratiot Avenue in downtown Detroit. Musical entertainment provided by DaMystro Music Group.

INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE COUNCIL - INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE
Investment performance council - State investment trust
Investment Performance Council
- This is calculated by Schroders, using published benchmarks for products, where available. If no benchmark is published but it is listed in competitor rankings, the relative position of the fund to its peer group is used. As at 31 December 2010, comparator data existed for 57 per cent.
- Investment performance is the return on an investment portfolio. The investment portfolio can contain a single asset or multiple assets. The investment performance is measured over a specific period of time and in a specific currency. Investors often distinguish different types of return.
- The performance measures the business success of investments. The gains, losses, income, expenses, as well as changes to as yet unrealised gains and losses, as set out in the income statement are put in proportion to the average balance of the investments.
- (Christianity) an assembly of theologians and bishops and other representatives of different churches or dioceses that is convened to regulate matters of discipline or doctrine
- a meeting of people for consultation; "emergency council"
- a body serving in an administrative capacity; "student council"
- An advisory, deliberative, or legislative body of people formally constituted and meeting regularly

South Ayrshire Council refurbish King Street underpass in Ayr
Ayrshire, Scotland, 22 August 2009--South Ayrshire Council’s ?235,000 refurbishment of the pedestrian underpass below King Street at Limonds Wynd in Ayr is now complete.
Councillor Peter Convery, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability and the Environment was joined by local Councillors, the contractor, council officers and local residents at the underpass to officially declare it open.
[Pictured: Local resident Debbie McConnell, and Joe Lafferty, chairman of Wallacetoun and Newton Regeneration Forum cut a ribbon to mark the formal opening of the refurbished underpass. They were joined by Councillors and Council officers.]
A ribbon cutting ceremony took place to mark the occasion. Councillor Convery said: “Everyone in the community will benefit from the refurbishment of the underpass. Adults, children, older people and those with disabilities can all now move around in the area without having to cross a very busy dual carriageway.
“I would encourage everyone to use the underpass that provides a direct, convenient and safe route for pedestrians to move from one side of King Street to the other.”
During the refurbishment programme the underpass had new brick wall cladding and new metal parapets and handrails fitted. Replacement lighting, anti-slip treatment to the walking surface, improvements to drainage and installation of CCTV cameras have all made the underpass much more user-friendly.
Speaking about the refurbished underpass, Councillor McIntosh, Resources and Performance Portfolio Holder said: “The refurbishment has made a real difference to the underpass, and I am sure that more people will be encouraged to use it. The underpass will now also be easier to maintain, as small street sweeping vehicles will be able to access it.
“The project was funded from the Council’s General Services Capital Budget, and this clearly demonstrates the ongoing investment that the Council is making in upgrading a range of facilities in South Ayrshire.”
Work starts on new leisure and culture park for Knowsley
Work has begun to create a multi-million pound leisure and cultural park for Knowsley.
The builders will begin shortly on the site, at Longview Lane, Huyton, which was marked with an official sod-cutting ceremony attended by VIP guests.
When finished, the park will bring state of the art leisure facilities including an aquatic centre with two pools, sports hall, studio space, gym and adult day care centre. In addition, it will also accommodate performances allowing new cultural, art and theatre events to take place in the borough for the first time.
The park will be complimented by an OurPlace youth facility, which is subject to a funding bid by the Big Lottery Fund. Plans include skateboarding facilities, IT, music and arts spaces – all housed in an iconic new building.
Council Leader Cllr Ron Round said “This is a major step forward in providing our residents with the facilities they deserve, as well as giving a boost to jobs and the local economy. This major investment will strengthen Knowsley’s growing international sporting links in the build up to the 2012 Olympics.”
The project is part of Knowsley’s ?25 million investment which includes the leisure and culture park on Longview Drive, Huyton, a new leisure facility in Stockbridge Village and a commitment of ?1m to enhance leisure facilities in Prescot.
This is on top of money that has already been spent to create new leisure centres in Kirkby and Halewood. There are also extra leisure and sports facilities in the new Centres for Learning that have replaced the borough’s secondary schools.
The site has been made ready for construction for work to start in the next few weeks and it is anticipated that the new building will be opened by the Autumn of 2011.

Myanmar and Sri Lanka Celebrate 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties
Top leaders of Myanmar and Sri Lanka exchanged messages Sunday on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Senior-General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council, said in his message to Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, that the existing friendly relations between the two countries are firmly based on the close religious and cultural affinities which originated thousands of years ago and friendship, mutual understanding and interaction between the two peoples have consolidated in the past 60 years.
He expressed belief that the activities commemorating the anniversary will add a new momentum to further strengthening of their bilateral ties.
In return, the Sri Lankan President said the Theravada Buddhist traditions existing between Sri Lanka and Myanmar have always been the pinnacle in the bilateral ties between the two countries, adding that the two countries share common platforms at many regional and international forums.
He expects that his planned visit to Myanmar later this month and the numerous other activities to take place in the two countries as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations will further consolidate their bilateral relations.
On the same occasion, Myanmar Prime Minister General Thein Seinand his Sri Lankan counterpart Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka also exchanged similar messages.
In August 2007, Thein Sein visited Colombo in exchange for the one to Nay Pyi Taw by Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka in December 2006.
During Thein Sein’s Sri Lanka visit, both of the two leaders stressed in their discussions the need to promote bilateral cooperation mainly in trade, tourism, agriculture, forestry, religious and cultural sectors.
Their discussions also covered continued implementation of the resolution passed by the two countries’ joint commission, mutual understanding on regional and international issues and creating new opportunities on bilateral economic cooperation.
On that occasion, two memorandums of understanding and one agreement were signed between the two countries respectively on cooperation in intelligence exchange, Buddhist literature studies and cultural exchange.
Sri Lanka has so far injected one million U.S. dollars’ investment in Myanmar since 1988, Myanmar statistics show.
In November last year, Myanmar agreed with Sri Lanka to establish direct air and sea links to effectively boost bilateral trade ties between the two countries as proposed by Sri Lanka.
Currently, trade between Myanmar and Sri Lanka is transacted through Singapore.
Recently, the two countries have formed a business relation group, aimed at enhancing bilateral trade between the two counties.
The 34-member business group will seek import of more agricultural and marine products from Myanmar and export of new items to the country.
Sri Lanka mainly imports from Myanmar various beans and pulses, hardwood, cane product, rubber and wood log, while exporting to Myanmar coffee, coco, dye, flavoring and packing paper.
The two countries set up the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in 1996.
Myanmar and Sri Lanka, which established diplomatic relations on June 7, 1949, have enjoyed cultural and religious ties since the 11th century.
Both Myanmar and Sri Lanka are now members of the sub-regional grouping of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) which also comprises Bangladesh, India and Thailand.
The BIMSTEC was originally formed with Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand in June 1997 and later joined by Myanmar in August the same year. The grouping expanded its membership to include Nepal and Bhutan at the first BIMST-EC summit in Bangkok in July 2004.
Myanmar remains as an observer of the South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

MAJOR IS FOUND - But still needs prayers!!!
UPDATE:
Major was found shortly before 8:00 this morning. He had apparently been moving around the property and was curled up next to a ravine that had been thoroughly searched earlier. He looked awful, was acting strangely, and his abdomen was huge, so I rushed him to the vet on my way to work. In addition to being in serious atrial fibrillation from his lack of meds, he was bloating! Quite serious as with his DCM he could not survive a surgery. Luckily, there appears to have been no torsion (fingers crossed on this, mild torsion is still possible), and he has responded to a gastric tube which released the air from his stomach. He's resting quietly now, getting fluids and we're hoping there has been no further damage to his heart.
I will be picking him up from my vet and transporting him to our local emergency animal hospital for observation tonight, as well as continued supportive care (IV fluids & EKGs mostly).
Everyone please keep Major in your thoughts and send all the positive healing energy you can. He will not likely survive surgery if it is required, so we are hoping that what we have seen will the the extent of this episode.
Thanks all, for your help! :)
Major
Major is a dalmatian brown spot. This is my neighbour's dog, she was kind enough to let me punish him with my nifty fifty lens for a good 2 hours :)

Blown out at the back, 'tis a shame but I thought it would be worth something after I put it through some post, I'm happy with the results :)

The Crew Property Developer
The Crew:- A modern British gangster flick relocates from its usual East End stomping ground to Liverpool in this adaptation of Kevin Sampson's 2001 book 'Outlaws'
In the early 1970s, UK filmmakers looking to turn a box office profit had three major choices: blood curdling horror, limp sex farce or big screen sitcom spin-off. Three decades on and the Brit gangster flick tends to combine all of the above with the lucrative formula of violence, gags and knockers coining it in as a surely as a re-imagined Scarface with Benny Hill.
The Crew deserves some credit for attempting to distance itself from the glut of similar movies; the Liverpool setting immediately marks it out visually, while a lack of screwy antics ensures that we're never asked to regard lead characters as cheeky rascals. Sadly, it's this lack of humour that makes the film so hard to enjoy, leaving one wondering why we're supposed to care what happens to a bunch of vicious criminals who in this instance don't even look after their own.
The plot has a familiar set up with Ged (Scott Williams) heading a successful criminal gang and hoping to go legit, planning to sink his nest egg into a local property redevelopment scheme organised by a couple with whom his wife Deb (Cordelia Bugeja) has recently become friendly. This of course requires Ged to do one last job which bizarrely involves knocking over a delivery of PlayStations. Things are complicated by the murder of a bent copper, Eastern Europeans muscling in on the action and kid brother Ratter (Kenny Doughty) ready to betray Ged with some empire building of his own.
"A brutal, unsentimental thriller"
Big J, Property Owner
James, or Big J as his friends call him, is working hard to revitalize New Orleans and turn some profit through revitalization. He currently owns five properties and is looking to buy more. Living on the other side of Lake Pontchartrain during the Hurricane, his house escaped the majority of the damage. Soon after the Hurricane he began investing into houses in New Orleans and renovating them. His work has paid off, as his shiny new red Ford pickup truck shows. His friend also invests in houses and his Mercedes also shows off his tough work. James doesn't believe that there is a lack of jobs, but rather a lack of housing. He is excited for Donald Trump's Tower to begin construction and believes that Trump's investment to the city will mean more investors. Another area that is hurting development is the local government, Big J says. Ray Nagin and others are not using the money properly. While optimistic about the future of New Orleans, he acknowledges that another storm the size of Hurricane Katrina would wipe out the city and no one would rebuild. For the time being though, he is happy with the work he is doing and is going to continue buying, renovating, and renting properties as long as it's profitable.
