Green: how I hated this colour when I was a child... I really hated green and never could explain why (is there any explanation for hating some colour?) I wasn’t a fan of pink either, if you want to know… I liked red and black and blue… nobody knew my personal hatred… now imagine my face (brown hair and freckles all over) when I arrived home after a long school day and my bedroom was GREEN… my parents decided to paint my room GREEN?!… aaaaaargh! I lied by saying that I liked it… my own space had the colour I hated most… well, I got used to it… And the first time I realised that I was starting to like green was when my parents wanted to paint everything in white… “what? No, way! I want my room in green (already a teenager!) The rest of the house may be white but not MY bedroom!” so, it was repainted in green… (I wasn’t a big fan of white either…) my room was green BUT I would NEVER wear that colour… I liked green T-shirts, trousers, skirts, scarves on my friends but never bought them for me (“I don’t look good in it”) until one day, and don’t know how it happened, I arrived home and realized that the new bought jacket was “you know what colour I’m talking about” and it wasn’t THAT bad… :) Nowadays, I have plenty of stuff in green and it’s one of my favourite colours besides orange, yellow, violet… and any colour and rainbow !? :) Moral: “Never say never”… and “Water dropping day by day wears the hardest rock away.”
now you, it’s your turn!
Agora voces, e a vossa vez!
Bob and Kris Gruen, Backstage with Yoko Ono, SXSW 2011
Bob Gruen, noted rock and roll photographer, and his son Kris, who is a musician. Not too often that you can photograph a father and a son, both of whom have accomplished so much in their lives.
From Wikipedia: Bob Gruen (born 1945) is an American photographer known for his rock 'n' roll photographs. Gruen was born in New York City. He began photographing rock stars with Bob Dylan and served as John Lennon's personal photographer during his time in New York City. Gruen is best known for his photograph of Lennon wearing a New York City T-shirt. Other notable celebrities and rock bands photographed by Gruen include Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, Led Zeppelin, Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono, Joe Strummer, The Who, and lately Green Day.
From Kris Gruen's web site: Born in New York City, Kris Gruen is a Vermont-based singer-songwriter. Building off of the lush, whisper-folk of his 2006 debut album Lullaby School (Mother West), Gruen’s sophomore release Part of It All adds innovative, eclectic, and electrified new approaches to the songs and production.
Often compared to Andrew Bird, The Arcade Fire, and The Decembrists, Part of It All, with the help of Mother West producers/engineers Charles Newman (The Magnetic Fields, AM, The Black Kids), JJ Beck and Rob Stevens, takes Gruen’s songs and stories to an adventurous and fresh musical place.
Kris is no stranger to the world of music. His father, the famed rock photographer Bob Gruen, has long been synonymous with immortalizing countless musical icons on film, but Kris has chosen to pursue a path more similar to the lives of those of his father’s subjects.
