Alex Toys Art
- The Alex was a prototype light car produced by Alexander and Co, Edinburgh, in 1908. The sole car made utilized a 14/18 hp 4-cylinder Gnome engine and a Rubery Owen chassis. Production was stopped after the solitary prototype after costs were found to be too great.
- Alex is a fictional character in Anthony Burgess' novel A Clockwork Orange and the film adaptation, in which he is played by Malcolm McDowell.
- Alex is a British cartoon strip by Charles Peattie and Russell Taylor. It first appeared in the short-lived London Daily News in 1987. It moved to The Independent later that year and then to the Daily Telegraph in 1992.

Ozi Toy Art Show - Rio - 2011
O artista visual Ozi cria um divertido universo infantil para o Rio de Janeiro
No proximo dia 05 de outubro, a galeria Colecionador Contemporaneo exibe, com curadoria de Marco Antonio Teobaldo, a exposicao “Toy Art Show”, primeira individual do artista visual Ozi em uma galeria carioca, celebrando os 28 anos de carreira profissional de um dos precursores da street art no Brasil.
Conhecido pela irreverencia de seu trabalho, Ozi aborda nesta serie o impacto da violencia e do sexo sobre o comportamento infantil. "Bichos de pelucia, patinhos de borracha, bonecas e personagens infantis protagonizam uma verdadeira rebeliao contra os adultos", revela o curador, Marco Antonio Teobaldo. O nome da exposicao faz uma alusao aos itens de colecao para adultos: toy art. Com isso, Ozi provoca uma reflexao sobre a fronteira entre os universos adulto e infantil. “O que me norteou para este trabalho foi pensar na nostalgia dos adultos hoje em dia. Parece que esta faltando um pedaco”, explica o artista. A logomarca da exposicao e um “smile” inflavel que nao sorri.
"Toy Art Show" tera 17 telas ineditas que remeterao o observador ao “estranho mundo de Ozi", como ele mesmo o denomina. Imagens de criancas inocentes que se parecem com publicidades antigas, surgem em situacoes que flertam com vandalismo. “A mensagem que Ozi quer passar e clara e ele possui um estilo impar, que se destaca dos demais trabalhos que voce possa encontrar nas ruas de Paris, Sao Paulo e Rio de Janeiro”, analisa Ludwig Danielian, galerista e idealizador da Colecionador Contemporaneo.
Todas as telas sao feitas com a tecnica de estencil, territorio que Ozi domina como poucos no Brasil. Pela primeira vez, o artista ira exibir algumas de suas esculturas e objetos, dentre os quais a bomba com ursinhos de pelucia promete chamar atencao. Uma instalacao feita de adesivos servira de pano de fundo para algumas telas, e a vitrine tambem sera adesivada, num jogo de “mostra e esconde”.
A Colecionador Contemporaneo e o novo projeto dos irmaos Ludwig e Luiz Danielian da Colecionador Escritorio de Arte. Nesse novo conceito, os irmaos buscam incentivar o acesso a arte e apresentar obras de artistas pouco conhecidos no Rio a precos acessiveis para novos colecionadores. Essa exposicao tem como objetivo trazer um consagrado artista de Sao Paulo e apresenta-lo ao mercado de arte do Rio de Janeiro.
Sobre o artista
Ozi e formado em publicidade e comecou a grafitar em 1985, incentivado por Alex Vallauri (1949-1987), o primeiro artista a exibir trabalhos graficos nas ruas de Sao Paulo, comecando a cultura do grafite na cidade. Em 1988 nasce a filha de Ozi, e, influenciado por questionamentos sobre o amadurecimento precoce das criancas, o artista comeca a serie sobre o universo infantil. Apesar de ser um artista plastico estabelecido no mercado das artes visuais, Ozi continua grafitando nas ruas, local que funciona como teste do impacto da sua arte.

Girl Photographer Age 5
Kyndall is my little 'protege' for the day. She took some great pictures and seems to have a natural instinct about how to use the camera etc. What amazes me is I showed her once and at 5 she got it all.. but I told her to put her toys up about 10 times and she seemed not to understand english.. ha ha.

Blow-up baby pool cake

This is a Planet Cake design that was requested by the customer. I added the little swimming frog, which is Zara's favourite water toy!
The baby is mostly all styrofoam. The pool is actually very yellow, despite the green 'tinge' in the photo!
This one was fun to make, although I found the shape a little tricky to carve! Must admit, I seem to be having less 'cake dramas' lately. Not sure if it means I'm getting better, or if it's just the style of cakes I'm making!!! Hopefully I'm getting better!

I've uploaded a bunch of pictures from my vacation in Zakynthos Greece. Feel fre to comment them but have in mind that it was hard to think about photographic "rules" while floating around! :)
I had to apply a whole lot of sharpness to some of the pictures.

Dante's Inferno
What can I say about Dante's Inferno? It's pretty much God of War poured into a different mold. Probably around 99.9% of the game was straight up lifted out of Kratos' hands but in the end I honestly have to say that I enjoyed it more than God of War (God of War III that is). One of the big reasons being that Dante is not a giant prick, unlike Douche of War, Kratos.
Many liberties were taken when it comes to the story (versus the literary work) but the game revolves around Dante fighting to save the soul of his love, Beatrice. The journey takes you through the 9 circles of hell which consists of some truly impressive, yet disturbing landscapes. While the bulk of the game's mechanics may have been borrowed from God of War, the developers certainly didn't slouch on the implementation.
Dante might not have the polish of God of War, but he is no slouch and there is plenty of hack & slack combat to be found along your quest through hell. Additionally there are two routes you can go when it comes to expanding your combat - Holy & Unholy. You can build both skill trees as you progress through the game, but you’ll need souls in order to do so and getting souls means getting your hands dirty.
Like God of War this game is certainly NSFW or anywhere near children. There is a ton of gore, plenty of disturbing imagery as well as nudity right from the getgo. The developers certainly tried to push boundaries in Dante’s Inferno, and they certainly succeeded. I can only imagine what the meeting was like when the they came up with the idea to have you fight a 200ft topless woman in a giant penis tower with enemies coming out of vagina doors. Oh yeah, the 200ft woman also had babies with razor arms crawling out of her nipples. While that part may have been a bit over the top, I was having too much fun with the game to really care.
Dante’s Inferno might be a clone, but it’s a quality clone and well worth your time. Hell, if you’re wanting to play God of War and down own a PS3 this is certainly the next best thing.
1991 GI Joe Brawler
The following review is my own opinion. I base the review on five key factors: Playability, color scheme, durability, design aesthetics, and the role it plays in my own Joeverse.
The brawler was one of the latter years Joe vehicles, which means it was a single stamp design, and the neon colors were not easy on the eyes. Despite those two large drawbacks, I rather like the Brawler. It was big and durable, and came equipped with a variety of offensive weapons.
The brawler is armed with two dual barreled machine guns that swivel to the side, Two Surface to Air missiles, and a long range artillery cannon.
As an added play feature it had reactive battle armor that could pop off, and the missiles could really fire via spring mechanism. The brawler I picked up a few years back was missing the front armor panel, and I've never liked the idea of spring loaded weapons that "really fire"
The removable grenades are a nice touch, and I like the front cockpit that holds two figures. One figure sits in the cannon turret, but there aren't any fire controls, so he just sits there. There is room for two additional figures to stand just in front of the spoiler...yes, this thing has a spoiler for "balance during high speed assaults" (Quoted from the blueprints).
The biggest drawback of this vehicle to me is the fact that the artillery cannons turret does not swivel. This vehicle would have earned much higher marks if the turret swiveled. That along with the garish colors make this vehicle average at best.

Again with the nipples! We all have them, male and female... what's the big deal? This was a direct market release of Dawn, from Linsner's Cry for Dawn comics. It was a big deal because the guys at McFarlane sculpted nipples on her. They're not painted and not really visible under the transparent "lace" bodice there. Still, I bought her thinking she'd be the next big thing... I no longer buy toys thinking of them as an investment - only stuff I'll actually do something with from now on! So, I let some other collector have her.

Saber's First Birthday
Saber turned one today. He is tearing into the gift Goth Girl and I got him. A bag full of goodies. He went right for the "learning puppy" first. That thing annoyed us on the way back from the store after purchasing it. It's a bit scary. We'd think it was off and wouldn't be touching it and yet it would yell out things like "Peekaboo I see you" and I'd scream "Ack Satan".
I have a photo of him climbing into this very bag once he'd emptied it of all the toys. I also have the mandatory birthday cake face shot... along with the bath that earned him. A bath in which he got to play with all his new bath toys. Saber loves baths and his bath toys. He often takes them out of the bath and plays with them throughout the day.
A little piece of childhood

I loved Winnie the Pooh as a child, and when I was 6 we went to Disney World. With my own money, I bought this - A Winnie the Pooh figurine.
But I wanted a stuffed animal, and I was upset that I didn't have enough money for one. So I made the best of it, and for several months afterward, would take this figurine with me whenever I could. I'm not sure where the chip on the ear came from, but he chipped his nose falling into the tub after I was done in my bath - I would sit him on the edge to wait for me.
I've gotten rid of a lot of my childhood stuff, but somehow, I just need to keep this little guy around.

Der Hirschkafer, Hornschroter, Feuerschroter oder Donnergugi (Lucanus cervus) ist ein Kafer aus der Familie der Schroter (Lucanidae). Er gehort zu den gro?ten und auffalligsten Kafern in Europa. Seinen Namen erhielt der Hirschkafer aufgrund der geweihartig vergro?erten mannlichen Mandibeln. Der Name „Donnergugi“ geht auf den Beinamen Donar des Gottes Thor zuruck. Die Art war bereits im Romischen Reich bekannt: die Larven wurden als Delikatesse gegessen, die mannlichen Geweihe wurden als Amulett getragen.
Die Kafer werden 25 bis 75 Millimeter lang, wobei die Weibchen mit maximal 40 Millimetern Lange deutlich kleiner bleiben. Damit sind sie die gro?ten europaischen Kafer. Sie haben beide eine schwarzbraune Grundfarbung, die Deckflugel und die Mandibeln (Oberkiefer) der Mannchen sind braunrot gefarbt. Besonders auffallig an den Mannchen ist das „Geweih“, bei dem es sich um die massiv vergro?erten Mandibeln handelt. Sie konnen bei besonders gro?en Exemplaren fast die halbe Korperlange ausmachen. Die Weibchen haben einen schmaleren Kopf und normal entwickelte Oberkiefer. Sie tragen auf der Oberseite ihrer Vorderbeine charakteristische, gelb behaarte runde Flecken. Gelegentlich kann die forma capreolus beobachtet werden, bei der die Mannchen sehr klein sind und ebenso wie die Weibchen kein Geweih tragen.
Die Tiere kommen in Sud-, Mittel- und Westeuropa, nordlich bis in den Suden Schwedens vor. Lokal findet man sie auch in England, Kleinasien und ostlich bis nach Syrien. Lucanus cervus is the best-known species of stag beetle (family Lucanidae), and is sometimes referred to simply as the stag beetle. It lives in holes in old trees and dead trunks, in the forest as well as in groves. Forest management, in eliminating old trees and deadwood, eliminates at the same time the habitat and food of this species. Once quite common, the population of the Lucanus cervus, along with that of other species of beetles which feed on wood, is in steep decline, and is now listed as a globally threatened/declining species.
Adults appear during late May to the beginning of August being most active in the evenings. Females lay their eggs in a piece of decaying wood. Stag Beetle larvae, which are blind and shaped like a letter "C", feed on rotting wood in a variety of places, tree stumps, old trees and shrubs, rotting fence posts, compost heaps and leaf mould. The larvae have a cream-coloured soft transparent body with six orange legs, and an orange head which is very distinct from the very sharp brown pincers. They have combs in their legs which they use for communication (stridulation) with other larvae. The larvae go through several developmental stages (instars), taking 4 to 6 years to become pupae. The work of entomologist Charlie Morgan during the late 1970s discovered that the pupae of the Stag Beetle live in the soil for about 3 months, then emerge in summer to awkwardly fly off to mate. Adults only live for a few months feeding on nectar and tree sap. Their slow, lumbering flight, usually at dusk, makes a distinctive low-pitched buzzing sound. The males fly more readily than the females. The modern Italian word for a toy kite cervo volante (and hence the French cerf-volant) may derive from the ancient amusement of flying the beetles on a length of thread.
The stag beetle is preyed upon by magpies, chickens, badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, cats, and woodpeckers.
The natural reaction of the beetle to an approaching large object is to remain motionless making them a good photographic subject. Sexually dimorphic, the males have enlarged mandibles and are larger than the females. Although the male's mandibles seem threatening, they are too weak to be harmful. Nevertheless, females can inflict a painful bite. It is the resemblance of the male's mandibles to the horns of a stag, and their use in combat between males, much like with deer, that gives the species its scientific and common names.

Gundam Deathscythe
If you know Gundams well enough, you would notice that there are some missing parts. Not the best photo I can come up for this one right now; that's why you would definitely see this toy on my stream again.
This is my favorite Gundam of all time; not to mention that its pilot, Duo Maxwell is such a cool dude. You guys should see Gundam Wing, its a classic. =)

Biography
Born Trevor Herbert Stanford, 2 September 1925, Bedminster, Bristol, Avon, England, d. 15 November 2000, Eastbourne, East Sussex, England. Conway not only played the piano as a young boy, but won a scholarship to join the choir at the Bristol Cathedral School.
He was conscripted into the Royal Navy in 1942 and, during a varied career, was awarded the DSM (Distinguished Service Medal) for service during campaigns in the Mediterranean and Aegean sea and lost part of a finger while using a bread slicer. A spell in the post-war Merchant Navy was finally ended by a recurrent stomach ulcer, after which Conway began playing piano in nightclubs.
His big break came when he started working as rehearsal pianist for choreographer Irving Davies and audition pianist for Columbia Records (UK) record producer Norman Newell. He later served as accompanist for star singers such as Dennis Lotis, Gracie Fields and Joan Regan.
Signed to Columbia Records, his first hit, "Party Pops", in 1957, was an instrumental medley of standard songs. It was the first of 20 UK chart entries featuring his catchy piano-playing through to 1963, including two number 1 singles, "Side Saddle" and "Roulette", and Top 10 entries "China Tea", "Snowcoach", "More And More Party Pops", and "Toy Balloons" all of which were his own compositions.
He headlined several times at the London Palladium, had his own television show (Russ Conway And A Few Friends) and regularly guested on others, including the Billy Cotton Band Show on BBC television where his cross-talk and vocal duets with the host revealed a genuine flair for comedy and an acceptable light baritone voice.
During the 60s his career was marred by ill health; a nervous breakdown while on stage and a mild stroke that prevented him from working during 1968-1971. In subsequent decades, still an anachronism, his combination of lively tunes, light classical themes and shy smile consistently proved a big draw abroad and in the UK, where he promoted his own nostalgia package shows and charity concerts.
After fighting stomach cancer for five years, in June 1994 Conway was told by doctors that he was in good health. Two years earlier he had been awarded the Lord Mayor of Bristol's Medal for his contributions to popular music and the cancer fund he set up after learning that he had the disease.
Despite trapping his thumb in the door of his Rolls Royce car in 1995, Conway remained active until finally succumbing to cancer in November 2000.

Day 1 of 7 Eye spy another run of 7 Days!
Hello all,
So here we are another run of 7 Days and it is apparently summer. Over here in the UK the weather has been toying with us a bit. Some days we get lovely sunshine and summer temperatures and the next day it can be raining from the ground up. So a typical British summer really!
This run I am back at home and the PC is fully operational so I will be back to the D80 rather than the iPhone which I used for all of the Spring run.
Looking forward to the week ahead and wondering how long it will take for me to totally fall behind on the comment love!

To the people of Vancouver:
It will be Thanksgiving in a few weeks. Time to reflect on what we are thankful for: our families, our health, our people, and our experiences.
In my classroom each week we pass a gratitude stone and students share what they are grateful for. Sometimes answers are unexpected but certain things come up again and again. “I am grateful for my teacher.” “I am grateful I go to school.” “I am grateful for my friends.” “ . . for my family” “. . . that I have a house.” etc. Nothing unusual it seems. Personally, I find myself grateful each time for a group of children that emphasize these important things they value and never mention material items. It says something. Definitely it speaks to our discussions and studies at school. It speaks to their families and experiences. It also reflects their place in the world. My students live in the inner city. They don’t have a lot. Some are grateful for a house because last year they were homeless. Some value school because it is the place of comfort – of daily breakfast, of hot lunch, of abundant books, adults who care and if they are lucky, clothes and toys passed on when they need them.
We are an amazing community at my school. We try to meet every need we can. We have some incredible partners in the community that contribute in countless ways to enrich the lives of our students. I would hate to start a list for fear of leaving someone off it, so I will show my appreciation in this way. Through time, through music, through holiday hampers, through books, through performances, through mentorship, through tutoring, through food, through so much more, many individuals, organizations, and businesses contribute. I am endlessly in awe of the generosity and in no way want to take away from it, but I have to say it is not enough. I have worked in this community for 16 years. It is not enough.
I am a teacher and I am passionate about learning. In my classroom learning happens. It is celebrated. It is valued. But needing happens too. Often when a child is upset I ask this question: “What do you need?” When I assume, I can be wrong. When I ask, I am often surprised at the answers I get. Asking and listening allows me to know where to start.
Nobody ever asks me what I need. But here is my answer. In these first few weeks of school this year, this is what I have needed:
• Snacks. Recess snacks. Snacks for children who arrived late and missed breakfast. We have had donations and thank goodness. But I have many hungry kids and the stash in my file cabinet won’t last.
• Socks. Warm, dry and the proper size. I have many sockless kids. The rains are coming. This just isn’t okay.
• Boy’s shoes size 3 or 4 because a pair that come to my class every day have holes. Girls size 13 – 2 because more than a few of us need them.
• A counselor for my cloakroom. Because we have had tears in there and we are working through stuff but in the middle of math it is hard to address sadness that just overwhelms you suddenly. Overwhelms you at age seven or eight. Our school has one counselor that comes for part of one day each week. She is there less than 4 days a month. She serves a school that is situated in the downtown eastside. We are not about a student number = counselor time ratio. We have bigger needs. Plain and simple.
• Advocates. Lots of them. Because some of us have ministry designations that are supposed to bring “in class” support and this support has been cut. Again.
• Affordable, safe housing. Some of us don’t go home to a home but to a shelter or a relative’s couch.
My list isn’t finished, but I’ll end it here. I think you get the idea.
True, not all of us have these needs. But some of us do and that’s the problem.
What do I think? I think we have to all think seriously about how we feel about the fact that our child may go to school everyday with a packed lunch, a warm jacket and few worries and other children in this city do not. They come to my school and other schools across the city hungry, stressed and cold. In Vancouver. Where you live.
Think about what you vote for, speak for, and speak up against. Are you willing to put your time and/or your money towards affecting change? Will you advocate for a child that is not your own?
What are your ideas? What can you do? When?
We will not say no to another box of clothes or toys or granola bars because yes, we can use them. But understand we have a very important job – teaching these children in front of us each day. Personally, I am exhausted by the other things I do – coordinating, organizing, distributing to try and stay just 3 steps behind the need (I am never ahead) and not let it run away from me completely. If you can help, also give some thought to how that helping will look. Play it out to the end. Own it. Take it on. It is so import
Day 16 - Feb 8, 2011
Every kid in Korea is born running, on the fast track to adulthood. Prior to coming to Korea, I remember thinking that elementary aged kids were playing with much more expensive toys than I was when I was their age. Pogs versus iPhones, for example. Korea takes that phenomenon to the next level.
Meet Robert. He's 6 and he was pumped the day he came in to show me his new cellphone. It's way cooler than mine is. He carries it around in that little green case on his side and uses it to take pictures of me when I'm teaching, and for making video calls to his mom and putting me on the phone. Awkward.
Oh, and this morning, when I arrived at school, Robert was walking up the stairs sipping out of a Dunkin Donuts cup. It was only hot chocolate. But still. I'm sure tomorrow he'll be buying stock in Samsung.

I must've spent a full hour yesterday calling which local bookstore has this available in their inventory. Luckily, a store within a 30-minute drive (well, one can get there in 10 minutes without the heavy, heavy rush hour traffic) had a copy.
Upon learning that a local toy shop was selling this same book for US$10 more, the drive into heavy traffic was well worth it.
The WFC Cybertronian Optimus Prime was thrown in for size reference.
Project 365 Toys - Generation 1 Swoop (Day 137 of 365)
This Transformers figure is Dinoot Swoop from the Generation 1 line, released in 1985. It is complete and in "well loved" condition. To be honest, this Swoop has seen better days, but I still really like this figure. He's got some paint chipping on his chest and some lost stickers, and his head sometimes falls off, but it's a rare figure and not easily replaced. At least the chrome is in great shape!
