Compiz is one of the first compositing window managers for the X Window System that uses 3D graphics hardware to create fast compositing desktop effects for window management. The effects, such as a minimization effect and a cube workspace are implemented as loadable plugins.

While trying out GNOME on Fedora 7, I found System > Preferences > Look and Feel > Desktop Effects. Compiz is installed, something which I never had luck with before. Not only can I "Enable Desktop Effects", which makes for translucent titlebars, and nice fade-outs on windows when moving from one desktop to another, but there are two other options.

One is "Workspaces on a Cube" which is, eh, well, it's putting each desktop on the side of a cube. Not bad or anything.

Seen here is the other option, "Windows Wobble when Moved". It's nothing that you'd want to use a work, but it's quite fun. I was amazed at its amazing speed, though. Even on my computer. The thing moved amazingly fast, with no jerking motions. I always thought Compiz was for people with the right hardware, and that I would be excluded with my mostly-2001/2002 hardware. I was wrong!

My last post was of no window decorations in GNOME. I thought I had fixed the problem by installing KDE, but it came back. I think it has something to do with compiz or emerald, but I'm not sure what. Notice the lack of an 'x' in the upper right hand corner where there should be. thankfully terminal still works though, unlike in GNOME!

This is what was pulled out to put in our new fireplace insert. This old one is gorgeous, but the chimney was destoyed and the fireplace wasn't functional. So, now it's decorating the porch for the holidays. :)

I was super bored and im like what can I do? I wanted to make cupcakes but we had no frosting (So I made my own) Then I got down I made Butterfinger ones and M & M ones...and Purple Buttercream sprinkle ones....After all that Im like eww cupcakes don't sound good at all right now. LOL Im craving Jamba Juice.

Oh yeah I added food coloring to the cupcake batter thats why some are yellow and some are green...Nothing matches these are random cupcakes : )

Halloween: scary stove

We always decorate our porch on Halloween with a lot of stuff to scare the trick or treaters. It's hard to get good pics of the lighting effects, though. But this gives you an idea of some of what we did.

This stove is unfortunately stored on the porch (it's not as bad as it sounds... you can't see it from the street) until we figure out what to do with it. So for halloween we filled it with fake spiders and a strobe and such things.

Palacio Real with Jami

This was definitely the coolest thing we saw - the royal palace. Along with it being ridiculously large it's also decorated with muraled ceilings, massive area rugs, portraits by famous painters, marble floors and statues, etc. We weren't allowed to take pictures, though, so this is all you can see.

After the redesign in one day the bedroom feels warm and inviting with a cozy seating area. We moved the bed and opened up the room. Brought the rug and a chair from downstairs.

Another view of my bed. My boxspring wouldn't fit up the stairs, so I bought a wooden thing that has drawers in it and a thick wood top to support my mattress. It's actually more comfortable then the boxspring. I couldn't stand having my bed on the floor.

Mermaid Dotees of my own design. I've been having fun making Dotees, but I've fallen in love with these!

The hair is composed of my own handspun wool yarns, DMC pearlescent effects embroidery floss (a real pain to work with), sea green nylon thread and some textured cotton weaving yarn, all strung here and there with beads. I love the effect this mix of yarn and thread gives!

Elle Decoration . . .

...Happy 20th birthday edition....well I certainly didn't just turn 20 ( rather 35 ) but was really happy to find this issue on the day of my birthday, carrying a most exquisite cover in an amazing shade of blue, combined with cinnamon brown and golden, but most of all featuring an animal trully dear to me, which I feel represents me a lot.

So, I indulged and bought it, eventhough I have commited myself extremely to a limited amount of bringing magazines home.

Three arrive in the Penthouse alltogether:
-> Architectural Digest in German monthly
edition (mostly for me )
-> National Geographic in German monthly
edition ( mostly for my partner)
-> Time weekly magazine in English ( for both
of us )

Saving on space and economising were the main reasons for this very selective cutting down. In the era of countless design blogs and online magazines, inspiration is freely widespread. More over, quality is prefered over quantity and too much input sometimes has a negative, missdirective effect, resulting into not trully absorbing what one sees or reads.Time for further reading is also needed.

As for the economical issue, after having calculated that €30 ( minimum, usual ammount spent on magazines monthly by me in the recent past ) x 12 adds up to €360 yearly, this money is put in the travelling piggy bank instead : )

This is a hand crafted handicraft gift item made of terracotta. Standard goblet shape with traditional Indian accents along the top edge. This design on a tea light candle holder was inspired by ancient Indian artwork.. Made of clay on a hand-spun pottery wheel and hand-painted in rural India.
