Probably, you would then raise your eyes and see these jars nestled in the corner above the cabinets, keeping watch over the room. (6) Witching With Herbs - A Quick Guide For Starting Witches Working with herbs has been one of the most magickal and rewarding experiences in my growth as a Witch. Not only plants heal our spirit and body – they are teachers, they empower us and they reveal us the paths to spiritual realms as guardians and shamans. I have always felt a natural connection to them – when I started practising Witchcraft at the tender age of thirteen, my first spells were almost entirely made from flowers I used to collect and dry. By then I didn’t know anything about them and worked in a very intuitive way, but soon the “herbal bug” poisoned me with the need to know more – and I have to say that poison is still working, as I never grow tired of reading herbal guides, collecting seeds and herbs and experimenting with them in my Witch room. I know many Witches that do not work with herbs – and I think that is perfectly ok. Herbs are just one way to create magick and there are many other completely legit ways to achieve the same results: gemstones, oils, Reiki, etc. I do not agree with those who say that a Witch is not a Witch without an extent herbal lore, but I DO think that you have to try at least once in your magickal learning until you decide if herbalism is in your path or not. Before I started growing and wildharvesting my own herbs, I worked for many years with dry herbs from our local farmer’s market. My mother used to buy her groceries there and I would make a quick stop at the herb seller and buy small amounts of herbs with the very little money I had made reading Tarot. Soon I was purchasing incense resins, charcoal tablets, oils… one bit at a time, I created my first “witchcraft chest” and started making mojo bags for my Tarot customers and my friends. That was around fifteen years ago. What I’m trying to explain is that if you want to start learning about herbs, start slow, and stay slow. You cannot learn the properties and Latin names of a hundred herbs in one day. Here are some points that may make your herb learning easier: - First and most important advice: RESEARCH. Do not work intuitively, specially if you are making herbal teas or any product that it is in contact with your body, internally or externally. Learn the Latin name of herbs – it is much more useful than it seems (for example, for online researching). - Learn first about your local herbs – they are easier to find, easier to grow and easier to identify if you go wildharvesting. Look for local farmers and gardeners and don’t be afraid to ask questions! Remember that we all love to talk about what we know about. - Keep a separate notebook, or a section of your Book Of Shadows, only for herbal lore – a regular ring binder is perfect, as you can add and reorganize as you go along. - If you can’t have the live plant for whatever reason, start buying a small amount of dry herb and, before you make any use of it, place the herb in a bowl/plate ad place your hands over it. Welcome its spirit into your life and knowledge and try your best to transmit your thankfulness and welcoming – then relax and let the herb speak. Note down everything you have felt, heard or seen. - You can do exactly the same with live herbs, in containers or in your garden. Not only the plant will give you its knowledge, they will let you know if they need more/less water, more/less sun, etc. This method also works in reverse; we apply regular Reiki sessions to our plants to stimulate their growth and properties, and have got astounding results. Herbs can give you a lot, chemically and spiritually, but you can give them back too; plants that are happy, growing with a devoted Garden Witch, grow better, are more resistant to bugs and produce more leaves and seeds for your work. - Keep your herbs in glass/ceramic jars, away from light and strong smells, tagged with the name of the herb (common and Latin), and the day you purchased/harvested it. Try to use them as fresh a possible – storing herbs forever only makes them less and less powerful. - The Fairies/Elementals are there to help you. Search for their advice as protectors of Nature by creating an altar to them in your garden or near your herb stash. Make a fairy pond (ours is just a big ceramic bowl, decorated with stones and shells under the water), leave offerings for them and acknowledge their presence; there are no gardening helpers like Fairies and Gnomes! the finished bathroom! We did get it done on time! Now it's my favorite room in the house. (At the moment, possibly because it's unusually neat and clean, I even like it better than my office.) (17) 25, at least. Merry Christmas! Missed a selfie!? ;) We survived Christmas day. I love the whole Xmas atmosphere but in the end the Christmas day itself is the only very boring part of it all. It is never as good as you expect it to be. Maybe because this year my mom wasn't with us and it seemed like my dad and grandmom were out of place, i am sorry my grandmom felt that way, it's not easy when you're around people you don't know (my family in law), i am sure tomorrow she's gonna feel a lot better with my father's family, all my oncles, aunts, cousins and other grandma, they all love her and she knows everyone. So how was your Christmas day? We had regular lunch, Nicho loved tordelli with meat (pasta) but fell asleep right after because he ate pretty late (my mother in law works until early noon even on Xmas day!) and as we were making him fall asleep in the big bed, the three of us fell asleep with him and we slept from 3 to 5 PM lol. Been a bit out with Lana, too. Nothing special. Nicho didn't really notice the difference with other days. He is just so precious and sweet. Growing up so fast. I'm organizing his first birthdy's party. The theme i picked for the party is soooooo sweet and cute and i've many ideas, woah only 25 days left!! Gotta be fast, it takes a lot of decorating, creating, building, buying... gotta be fun. Have a nice day after Christmas. Blue Christmas Wreath Wow, these wreaths were so much more work than I anticipated, but I am so happy with the turnout:) I think they almost look real! At first I wasn't sure if I would be able to come up with enough different ideas, but once I made one, the ideas just kept flowing. I've always loved ornament wreaths, and the blue and silver theme is one of my favorites for Christmas. My grandmother decorated her apartment all in blue and silver, and had a white tree. I thought it was sooo awesome! See my profile for details:) christmas theme decorating ideas WallMonkeys wall graphics are printed on the highest quality re-positionable, self-adhesive fabric paper. (18) Pool by EROS 1995 Painted in 1995 as part of a production inside a college game hall. I can't even remember which college it was for. Probably one that wouldn't have let my ass in to learn but they certainly would let me in to decorate their pool hall. haha. I don't remember but I think this was done from a quick sketch on the spot. Painted with Monk. I think we came up with the concept just to kind of please the school. It was cool. I rocked the background and rocks and even used my stencil tip technique and Monk rocked the water, some sharks and did a shark piece. All and all, it was a decent little mini indoor production. The bad part was there was no windows for us to air out the room so the fumes became very overwhelming. I remember using the ping pong table as our table to hold our paint. When we were all finished, we took the cans off the table and the dust particles were so thick it made a bunch of circle impressions on the table. It looked like some art deco piece of furniture. The job was granted to us from a connection we had through Intermedia Arts. They had worked with us and through the guidance of one of the past executive directors, hired a guy to come in and help a few of us sort of harness our talents for the good of mankind. The guy was pretty cool but he really never got to know us and always seemed to be a little shady. Like he was cutting behind the scenes deals or something and was taking a bigger cut or something. We really weren't making shit. I don't know for sure but something just didn't seem right and it only lasted one year. The collective we started was called Fluid Intelligence. The idea for the name was coined by Ewok Msk and voted in by all of us as the perfect choice. I really don't even remember who all was a part of it. I think it was Monk, Spel, Ewok, Mber, Kahn and myself. We had a gallery at IA and even got some pretty notable legal jobs like the Minnesota State Fair. It was cool but didn't last long. Fortunately and unfortunately, some of our pieces from one of our installation galleries is still up at IA today. I remember one of the coolest things we painted for that gallery, which we named "Society's Worst Nightmare", was a Piano that we painted and all tagged up. It's not that cool to look at now but back then as a young man being able to fuck up someone's piano was a pretty cool thing to do. Good times and good Memories! Pompeii - Lupinare Art 2 Artwork on the walls inside the Lupinare brothel which is designed to give the punters ideas for what they could get up to with the prostitutes who worked here. The Lupinare is one of the many brothels spread around Pompeii. Lupa is the Latin word for prostitute and this building was said to be the best organised of the brothels. There are 10 rooms for getting down to business – five downstairs and five upstairs – and the walls in the entrance room are decorated with paintings depicting the different positions that could be tried out in ‘games’ with the Lupa. This building also makes taking the audio tour entirely worthwhile as you get to here a very posh English bloke say the word ‘pimp’. It’s just not right somehow. Pompeii is one of, if not the, most famous archaeological site in the world. The entire Roman town was engulfed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD and preserved by the huge shower of ash that came down afterwards. The town remained buried for hundreds of years until it was rediscovered in the 16th century. Excavations proper began under the auspices of Charles III of Bourbon, King of Naples, though much of the early work though damaged the site and many works of historical importance were looted or destroyed. The site has now been preserved and, in some cases, restored, and an average of more than 8,000 tourists visit the site every day of the year. The excavated site covers more than 45 hectares and is amazing to visit, with numerous houses, mansions, theatres and shops preserved to an unbelievable extent. The ash which covered the site left the buildings in a great condition, meaning that you can get a real feel for what must have been like living under the Roman Empire. A Bug's Life (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) Journey inside the world of bugs in this epic of miniature proportions. Crawling with imaginative characters, hilarious laughs, and colorful animation, Walt Disney Pictures Presentation of A Pixar Animation Studios Film, A BUG'S LIFE, will "delight everyone -- young, old, or six-legged." (People Magazine) In this 2-disc set you'll step behind the scenes for a look at the innovation and teamwork that resulted in this ingenious film. Loaded with bonus features — including animation not seen in theaters, abandoned sequences, and multiple surprises — A BUG'S LIFE COLLECTOR'S EDITION offers something for everyone from families to film lovers! There was such a magic on the screen in 1995 when the people at Pixar came up with the first fully computer-animated film, Toy Story. Their second feature film, A Bug's Life, may miss the bull's-eye but Pixar's target is so lofty, it's hard to find the film anything less than irresistible. Brighter and more colorful than the other animated insect movie of 1998 (Antz), A Bug's Life is the sweetly told story of Flik (voiced by David Foley), an ant searching for better ways to be a bug. His colony unfortunately revolves around feeding and fearing the local grasshoppers (lead by Hopper, voiced with gleeful menace by Kevin Spacey). When Flik accidentally destroys the seasonal food supply for the grasshoppers he decides to look for help ("We need bigger bugs!"). The ants, led by Princess Atta (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), are eager to dispose of the troublesome Flik. Yet he finds help--a hearty bunch of bug warriors--and brings them back to the colony. Unfortunately they are just traveling performers afraid of conflict. As with Toy Story, the ensemble of creatures and voices is remarkable and often inspired. Highlights include wiseacre comedian Denis Leary as an un-ladylike ladybug, Joe Ranft as the German-accented caterpillar, David Hyde Pierce as a stick bug, and Michael McShane as a pair of unintelligible pillbugs. The scene-stealer is Atta's squeaky-voiced sister, baby Dot (Hayden Panettiere), who has a big sweet spot for Flik. More gentle and kid-friendly than Antz, A Bug Life's still has some good suspense and a wonderful demise of the villain. However, the film--a giant worldwide hit--will be remembered for its most creative touch: "outtakes" over the end credits a la many live-action comedy films. These dozen or so scenes (both "editions" of outtakes are contained here) are brilliant and deserve a special place in film history right along with 1998's other most talked-about sequence: the opening Normandy invasion in Saving Private Ryan. The video also contains Pixar's delightful Oscar-winning short, Geri's Game. Box art varies. --Doug Thomas (17) Finn McMissile - Disney / Pixar Cars 2 Movie Character One of the stars of Disney Pixar's new animated feature - 'Cars 2' is Finn McMissile the master British spy car. To quote Disney/Pixar: "Finn McMissile is a master British spy. Though charming and eloquent, it's his stealth maeuvering, intelligence and years in the field that enable him to thwart unexpected attacks from bad guys, making quick daredevil escapes. Finn's design is sleek and timeless, but he's also prepared for any tricky situation with an arsenal of ultra-cool gadgets and weaponry, including front and rear grappling hooks, a missile launcher, deployable magnetic explosives and holographic disguise emitter. As a seasoned professional in the game of international espionage, Finn believes there is a conspiracy brewing during the World Grand Prix. His clandestine work surrounding the global exhibition race puts him on a collision course with Mater, whom he mistakes for an undercover American agent with a genius disguise." Finn McMissile, the Lego Master spy car, has been built as part of Flickr LUGNuts 44th Build Challenge - 'Cars Too!' - celebrating the Disney / Pixar 'Cars 2' characters, and other face related vehicles. Francesco Bernoulli - Disney / Pixar Cars 2 Movie Character One of the stars of Disney Pixar's new animated feature - 'Cars 2' is Francesco Bernoulli, Europe's number 1 racecar. To quote Disney/Pixar: "Francesco Bernoulli grew up in the shadow of the famous Monza race course in Italy where he and his friends would sneak onto the track and race the famous Pista di Alta Velocita bank turn. He was an instant winner on the amateur circuit and soon became an international Formula Racer champion. The ladies love Francesco's open wheels, youngsters look up to his winning spirit and fellow racers envy his speed. But Francesco's biggest fan is Francesco himself, as evidenced by his racing number. As the most famous race car in Europe, #1 Francesco is a favorite to win the World Grand Prix, which also makes him Lightning McQueen's chief rival.". Francesco Bernoulli, has been built as part of Flickr LUGNuts 44th Build Challenge - 'Cars Too!' - celebrating the Disney / Pixar 'Cars 2' characters, and other face related vehicles. disney pixar cars wall decor Disney and Pixar invite you to discover these masterpieces of storytelling from the creative minds that brought you Toy Story, Monster’s Inc., Finding Nemo, and many more on Blu-ray Disc for the ultimate high definition experience! With revolutionary animation, unforgettable music and characters you love, these dazzling short films have changed the face of animation and entertainment and are sure to delight people of all ages for years to come. Pixar's unprecedented string of hit animated features was built on the short films in this collection. John Lasseter and Ed Catmull used these cartoons the way Walt Disney used the "Silly Symphonies" during the 1930s: as a training ground for artists and a way to explore the potential of a new medium. Although it's only 90 seconds long, "Luxo, Jr." (1986) ranks as the "Steamboat Willie" of computer animation: For the first time, audiences believed CG characters could think and feel. (It was also the first CG film to make audiences laugh.) When the artists began work on Toy Story, they had learned so much from the shorts, they were ready to undertake that landmark creation. In the later shorts, the viewer can see the artists continuing to experiment: with a more realistic human figure in "Geri's Game" and with new ways of suggesting atmospheric effects in "Boundin'." Some of the more recent shorts continue the adventures of the characters from the features. "Jack-Jack Attack" reveals what happened to the hapless baby-sitter while the Incredibles were off fighting Syndrome, while "Mater and the Ghost Light" shows that life goes on for the inhabitants of Radiator Springs. When Sully from Monsters, Inc. tries to adjust his seat in "Mike's New Car," the animators prolong the moment to wring every drop of humor from the situation--just as an earlier generation of animators milked Wile E. Coyote's antics for all they were worth. The long-unseen films for Sesame Street are an unexpected bonus. A delightful collection of entertaining shorts, and a significant chronicle of the growth of computer animation. Stone by Design: The Artistry of Lew French More than 125 gorgeous photographs showcase the beauty of award-winning stonemason Lew French's work in eight different homes, illustrating how rounded fieldstone, gray slate, rough granite, and even curvy driftwood can be incorporated into stunning pieces of functional art. French provides charming narration for each project: how an idea came to be; how a stone-splitting technique is executed; even how one of his most difficult pieces, a three-year-long project, was saved from ruin the day it was completed. With its contemporary hearths of rustic slate, sculptured walls of both great granite slabs as well as stacked and rounded fieldstones, Stone By Design: The Artistry of Lew French will inspire design lovers to incorporate this material in home interiors and exteriors, whether as an artful writer's studio, a playful fireplace, or a carefully crafted garden pathway. More than just a stunning tribute to the work of Lew French and his unique vision and craft, this book celebrates both the function and form of stone. It's the perfect inspiration for anyone interested in adding the beauty of stone to their home or landscape. Lew French was born in the small farming town of Zumbrota, Minnesota. He started to work with stone when he was just nineteen years old. He moved to Martha's Vineyard twenty years ago and has worked on his own stone designs exclusively since. His work has been featured in the New York Times, House Beautiful, The Boston Globe Magazine, Architectural Digest, and Metropolitan Home. He has also been featured on HGTV's Modern Masters and local programs in the Northeast. He has two sons, Asa and Truman. Alison Shaw is a fine-art and editorial photographer who lives and works on Martha's Vineyard, which has provided the inspiration and subject matter for much of her color and black-and-white photography. Over five thousand of her original fine-art prints are in public and private collections. Alison's work appears regularly in Yankee Magazine, Martha's Vineyard Magazine, and Cape Cod Life. She teaches photography workshops for the Maine Photographic Workshops and Santa Fe Workshops. Alison lives with her family in Oak Bluffs. Decor includes Coca-Cola advertising featuring nearly life-size cardboard illustrations of women in WWII armed services uniforms, individual jukebox stations, chrome accents and red vinyl seats. The staff at some locations are known to sing and dance every half-hour. Making a smiley face with ketchup on the paper plate when served french fries is a Johnny Rockets trademark. The menu, presentation, counter seating and grilling area are based on an original restaurant from 1947 (still operating today), The Apple Pan in West Los Angeles, California: A small two-sided menu with few items, hamburgers served wrapped in paper and on cardboard plates, hamburgers grilled-to-order in full view of the counter-seated customers. Johnny Rockets was founded on June 6, 1986, by Ronn Teitelbaum of Los Angeles, California, and "crafted as a 'nongimmicky' recreation of the 1940s-vintage malt shops of his childhood." The first restaurant was established as a 20-stool counter operation on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. In 1999 Royal Caribbean International featured a Johnny Rockets location onboard its Voyager of the Seas, making it the first ever "mobile" Johnny Rockets restaurant. From that point forward the cruise line has offered a Johnny Rockets location onboard all of their new cruise ships. The world's largest Johnny Rockets franchise opened on April 25, 2006, inside the Knott's Berry Farm amusement park in Buena Park, California. The restaurant has more than 5,900 square feet (550 m2), with indoor seating for over 260 guests with an additional outdoor patio seating area. It is located in The Boardwalk section of the amusement park. In February 2007, it was announced that Red Zone Capital, the private equity firm of Daniel Snyder, was set to acquire the chain. Snyder announced plans to expand the chain both within the United States and worldwide, including the launch of smaller outlets known as Johnny Rockets Express. (10) Day 248: Defused This is my little "invention" I came up with a couple of weeks back while the wife and kids were away. My lighting setups generally need a bit of work, and I needed a way to diffuse the light coming from this spotlight I have installed in a work-light, but it gets too hot to have anything close to the bulb. We tried that once, way back when I did that clone shot with Gretchen, but in the course of taking those shots, it burned a nasty spot onto the clothe we were using to diffuse the light. So I came up with this idea to keep the diffusing fabric further from the hotness of the lightbuld itself. It's just a bit of wire fencing cut so that it can fit around the outside rim of the work light. It actually works pretty well. The fabric doesn't get too hot even when the light is on for a couple of hours. I wouldn't want to leave it on all night or anything, but it's pretty good while I'm working on a shot. I had to go with this shot with my eyes closed, because my eyes were all red. Was a busy day of going to the Central Milwaukee library for the kids to make gingerbread houses, and then we picked up a pretty cheap christmas tree at Menards, got it setup and mostly decorated. Nice to actually get something done on a weekend. Natural History Museum The other evening I have been to one of my favourite museums in London: the Natural History Museum. There is a lovely ice rink just outside and also all the trees are decorated with lights... such a lovely atmosphere! In this moment, also, it's on a magnificent exhibition called ''Darwin Big Idea''... the entrance is just ?9 and it's one of the most inspiring, fun and well organised exhibition I have seen in the last months. I loved this board because I got to start it with the word gnosis. So! Everyone who sees this (and who enjoys games) . . . 1. Play a game of Scrabble--against yourself if you have to. 2. Take a shot of the final board. 3. Tell us something it shows about you (and, if you like, and you played against someone else, tell us something it showed about your opponent.) 4. You'll never pay full price again. (11) Freddy Choo from Salvos Stores and Tara Dennis - tables and chairs re-created by Tara Dennis(1002) Guests were invited to take a fresh look at ‘furnishing’ the eco-friendly way (whilst helping those in need) by merging the pre-loved and the contemporary and shown first-hand exactly what can be achieved with a little TLC and a sprinkle of imagination! Leading Australian visionaries joined us for the event, and brought ‘Furnish With A Conscience’ to life by dedicating their time and talents to the campaign and creating a variety of pieces for the home using hand-picked finds sourced from various Salvos Stores throughout Sydney. These included the likes of: Patchwork cushions made from sweaters, knitwear and fashion garments by fashion designer Kirrily Johnston; a chandelier made using silver knives, forks and spoons by interior designer Gregory Mellor; a throw and two lamps (all which had an “I Dream of Genie on holiday in Hawaii, feel about them”) by Interiors mentor and Orson & Blake owner David Heimann; a four-foot picture frame which was turned into a mirror / reference board by Megan Morton (who lives and breathes all matters of the home); a dressing table and stool by professional ballerina and model Natalie Decorte; two foot stools called ‘Arthur & Martha’ by Julie Paterson from ‘Cloth Fabric’; a complete dining room setting including tables, chairs and a side board which was completely revamped and upholstered by Better Homes and Gardens DIY expert Tara Dennis; a hat stand which was dressed in cheerful bits and bobs to create an eclectic unique look to your home, wardrobe and style, by Pip Edwards, as well as four extraordinary, complete room set-ups (a sitting room, a bedroom, a terrace and a dining room, all of which were shot at Rose Seidler House, Wahroonga, for the Furnish With A Conscience campaign), by the highly creative and talented interiors stylist Sibella Court. These unique pieces assisted in transforming the St Peters Salvos Store into a serene and magical place for a relaxed and thought-provoking sit-down ‘brunch by bills’ to celebrate the official launch of ‘Furnish With A Conscience’. Chairs were a mixture of ‘reclaimed and refurbished’ ones from Salvos Stores, as well as a handful of bentwood style and button linen chairs brand new from Orson & Blake. This mix of the vintage and reclaimed combined with modern furniture, “gives a sense of whimsy, playfulness and humour” as David Heimann from Orson & Blake expressed. However, ‘furnishing with a conscience’ did not stop there…. The table for 60 guests was decorated in a simple and casually elegant fashion – all fairly fun, quirky and unexpected, similar in style to an impromptu English garden party. Red and pink roses and a selection of small and sweet flowers with a, “clipped straight from the garden type feel”, were popped into various small low-to-table vessels and vintage cut glass, mixed up with a sprinkle of silver objects (from Salvos Stores) and a selection of modern white ceramics such as tall bird vases, pear shaped bud vases and various other objects including little birds, large white, elephants and other animals. Napkins were placed on vintage, irregular china plates with a different pattern for everyone, (sourced at Salvos Stores), half were white Linen and Moore (from Orson & Blake) and the other half were a selection of assorted napkins of various fabrics with a sunny Sunday feel to them, which had been created by-hand especially for the occasion. Glasses were also mixed and matched adding to the fun, relaxed and summery feel of the morning. Guests were treated to a delicious brunch by bills including Fresh strawberries with yoghurt and honey; Crusty white baguettes filled with a fine herb omelette; Open sandwiches of our cured ocean trout, fresh ricotta with a caper and parsley salad; a selection of fresh fruit muffins, Parkers Organic Juice and a ‘Sunrise Smoothie” of orange juice, banana, yoghurt and berries; as well as a small ‘Coffee and Tea Cart” – all of which was served with a sweet smile. Even the goodie bags continued the ‘Something old, Something new” theme. They included a variety of cherry picked individual pieces selected from Salvos Stores, various gifts from Orson & Blake, Murobond Paint samples, paintbrushes, measuring tapes, Guylian chocolates, Parkers Organic orange juice, as well as a selection of other bits and bobs which would assist in a day of home renovation and DIY! The event was certainly a success and an elegant reminder of what can be achieved when you put your mind to it – AND whilst helping those in need! Bobby trying to get up Me: I see a bunch of toys that never get played with in this sequence of shots. Like those in the games in the back. Mom: Yes, I see. Well, they were too young to play with everything all at once. I suppose once they got bored with one thing, we opened another thing for them. Me: And the sled? Mom: That was a present from Uncle John. Me: Was that the one we had when I was growing up? Mom: Yeah. What was that...it was called some kind of "flyer" ? Me: Yes. "Flexible Flyer." Mom: Yeah. I don't remember why, but I seem to remember Uncle John felt it was very important for the kids to have a sled. Me: Well, he probably didn't grow up with wide open spaces on which to sled. Mom: And I wonder if he even had a sled. But it was very important for some reason. Speeding Train Dog walking again, we walked down to the station and had loads of trains pass through in the five or six minutes we were there.
