HP Velotechnik Scorpion fs - BionX (71049)

HP Velotechnik Scorpion fs - BionX (71049)

The recumbent trike HP Velotechnik Scorpion fs with BionX electric power assist system PL250HT.

This is by far the most comfortable human powered vehicle I can imagine.

The Scorpion trikes are made in Germany based on a standard frame that was developed by HP Velotechnik. They can be customized with a number of options:

- brakes (coupled, uncoupled disks, parking brake)
- gear shift/powertrain
- lighting
- electric assist (pedelec)
- seating
- colors
- front boom quick adjuster
- other options like trike fenders, luggage rack, wheels etc.

The standard version of the full suspension foldable trike Scorpion fs starts at €3.490,--, but customized you can easily reach €6.000,-- or more.

This photo is showing the trike like it was delivered. Meanwhile it was equipped with lighting (Schmidt dynamo hub, Edelux LED light at the front, LED backlights) and a luggage rack with an Ortlieb Bike Box. The battery is now wrapped into a black nylon case that protects it from dirt and humidity.

When folded two Scorpion fs can be transported in my station wagon which is great for weekend trips anywhere in the country. Oh, by the way: I fly by trike when going to Frankfurt Airport for plane spotting - you do not need to search for a place to leave your car, and you are much more flexible in going to different places on the same day. And: it keeps me fit!

Cool ground floor art close to Bethnal Green.

That is my new bike! And by "new" I mean recently purchased rusty and scratched 80's road bike. Hopefully it's too ugly to be nicked. If it does, well it was cheap anyways...

I realize now that biking through central London during rush hour can be quite liberating. It's an "embrace the chaos" situation I haven't experienced since riding the autorickshaws of Mumbai. I mean that in a good way (too slow to be scary, drivers seem used to it).

It doesn't feel dangerous. It's good to have the strength in numbers of dozens of bikers storming Oxford street amidst double-decker buses and rambling shoppers.

I'm getting bike-crazy, and that's probably because I still don't have my road bike done! I have found a cheap source of some 650B wheels though, so that's a plus. Hopefully I will be riding it by the end of the week.

Small Museums by Bike: Visit Vancouver 9/8/2007

Small Museums by Bike: Visit Vancouver 9/8/2007

P9080055. Photo: old bike at the Clark County History Museum. Small Museums by Bike September 2007: Visit Vancouver. A Joint effort between the City of Vancouver and SMBB! We started in the shadow of our 37 foot friend Paul Bunyan of Kenton. Eleven bicyclists learned how to cross the maze of bike paths and were on our way to our first Small Museum adventure across the state line! The Washingtonians treated us well, and in fact we picked up 3 more bicyclists on the other side (And two biked over in the first place!). Our first stop was Esther Short Park where we had an hour free time to cruise the farmer's market and Peace & Justice Peace Fair (please note the John Denver Peace Quilt that was spoke of was NOT to be found, but Susan B Anthony , Elizabeth Cady, and Mother Teresa were milling about). At 2 pm exactly, in the southeast corner of the park, the Glockenspiel chimed, and a voice range out, and wonderful diorama telling the Salmon story began, lasting about 10 minutes. After the Show, the Small Museums by Bike tour began...our first indoor stop was the Sixth Street Gallery - a parking spot was saved just for us right in front to park our bikes, complete with a pump. Now that's service. The Art Gallery was hosting the Vancouver Grid Project: photographs by grid by local highschool students. Our next stop was the Clark County History Museum, but on the way we biked through a mini sculpture garden at 9th and Broadway and took photos at the Oldest Burgerville remaining built in 1962. Outside the museum we paid tribute to The Old Apple Tree's Sibling since Numero Uno Old Apple Tree is literally under construction until further notice. Inside the museum, Jane was our wonderful host. We watched a video on Vancouver then and now, and enjoyed an exhibit called Vancouver: Uncovered- complete with Privy exhibit. In another exhibit, we especially enjoyed hearing about the Native basket exhibits from Jane who is American Indian herself. And our last stop was the fabulous Church of Felix. Christine, the Events Coordinator proudly showed off an amazing collection of Felix the Cat. We learned that one can easily mistake other cats for felix, such as the cat clock with clicking eyes, that's Crazy Cat! From photographs and mail art of Felix's travels, masks, dolls, t-shirts, lights, The Church of Felix transformed us all. We ate a few snacks, and were on our way back to the home state, a few of us got lost, but the City of Vancouver set us straight. And in the end, some good beer at the Kenton Public House.

Smashed!

Smashed!

It's currently in the collision shop, and will be out of commission til next week I was told. A flying debris (aka, a hood of another car) on the freeway smashed against the front bumper, gracefully slid itself on to the hood, smashed the windshield, and eventually sliced off the side mirror. I just thank God no one was hurt.

If the hood flew-in in another angle, I think it might have decapitated both the passenger and the driver. Again, thank God it didn't. I'm in awe just thinking about it now.

Gearing up for Bikes, Blues and Bar-B-Q

Every fall, our town has a motorcycle rally and hundreds of thousands of bikers from across the country descend upon us. It makes for a very noisy weekend, and a very crowded one, but some of those bikes are waaaay cool. The rally doesn't start for a couple more days, but tents, food vendors, beer vendors and bike displays are going up all over downtown. This one caught my eye. I'm a sucker for anything red and shiny!

Highway to Vengeance: A Thomas Highway Novel (Volume 1)

Highway to Vengeance: A Thomas Highway Novel (Volume 1)

Ripped from today's headlines: An ex-Navy SEAL . . . A daring raid on a heavily fortified stronghold . . . A clandestine operation to take out a reclusive international terrorist . . . Join ex-Navy SEAL Thomas Highway on a high-octane thrill ride as he sets out to kill the man who murdered his wife while simultaneously negotiating a pair of covert government agencies. One is trying to stop him. One wants to help. But both have their own hidden agendas. Highway's search leads to a former drug lord turned terrorist who's looking to smuggle a WMD under the porous Mexico border. But that's not going to happen. Not if Highway can help it. From the sun-drenched beaches of San Diego to the crime-ridden streets of Tijuana, HIGHWAY TO VENGEANCE combines a hard-boiled, neo-noir, first-person POV with modern thriller elements and a highly accurate account of real-life SEAL training to create a twisting novel that explores the darkness within us all, the lengths one man will go to avenge his lost love, and the difference between vengeance and justice. Praise for Highway to Vengeance: "Brian Springer brings a clear new voice to the thriller genre. He is destined to become a new superstar." Cym Lowell, author of Riddle of Berlin "Final verdict: It's a bad-ass story, that slams into you at full speed from the very start and takes you on a wild thrill ride." Evie-bookish - 4/5 stars "This was a really enjoyable action thriller that I raced through, with a main character I could root for." Broken Highway (A Thomas Highway Story)

Praise for author Brian Springer and his character, Thomas Highway:

"Brian Springer brings a clear new voice to the thriller genre. He is destined to become a new superstar. Thomas Highway is a new thriller hero!"
Cym Lowell, author of Riddle of Berlin and blog reviewer (cymlowell@blogspot.com)

Thomas Highway is a broken man.

Six months ago he'd been living his dream, embarking on covert missions and killing terrorists to keep America safe from harm as a Navy SEAL.

Then disaster struck, in the form of a flesh-eating virus that ended his career and nearly his life.

Now he spends his nights alone, drinking himself into oblivion, just trying to make it through another day without killing himself.

Then one afternoon an old friend arrives, begging for his help to take down a dangerous fugitive. Highway reluctantly accepts, deciding that putting his skills to use might alleviate some of his pain. But as the night drags on, he realizes he may just have found more than he has bargained for.

Praise for the first Thomas Highway novel, Highway to Vengeance:

"Final verdict: It's a bad-ass story, that slams into you at full speed from the very start and takes you on a wild thrill ride."
Evie-bookish - 4/5 stars

"This was a really enjoyable action thriller that I raced through, with a main character I could root for."
TC@BookedUp - 4/5 stars

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

He lives in Temecula, CA with his wife Kim and their two children.

150. Shoot longhorns (like with my camera)

So Monday, that makes it just shy of 1 week at Ryans by a matter of hours. Wowzers lol. Before I wrap everything up lets talk about Monday. Hes getting sick so wasnt feeling well enough to go into work in the morning. But we got up around 11 I think and had toast lol. He played a little Splinter Cell, the new one which I hadnt seen yet and it was pretty cool, good graphics. We spent quite a bit of time wrestling around and trying to tickle eachother, hes bigger than me so he won most of the time but I can get him some times lol. Around 3 we left and he took me into Cove to pick up my bike from my old neighbors house and then took me home. The door was locked and no one was home when I got there and Ryan had to get his step dads vehicle back so he couldnt wait with me.. So I sat in front and played Pokemon for quite a while, like around a half hour. Some little neighbor boy came by and talked to me for a little bit, asked me a million and a half questions lol. And then they finally let me in. Monster was pretty happy to see me, he helped me unpack, and then I took a shower. After that I made a salad and had some cereal.. I talked to Shy on the phone for a little bit, I miss her and she says she misses me and already wants to come back. Now Im laying on the floor upstairs wondering what Im going to do after this to pass some time... Phones dead, and my chargers gone until further notice.. Ryan said hed bring me one, hes so good to me..

Ok so wrap up time. I spent a whole week at Ryans house, but it didnt really seem like a week. We didnt do a whole lot. Played with his nephew Blake quite a bit lol he calls me Pah (like making the p noise) I have no idea why! Ryan says together we are like a spitoon cause Blake calls him Ding lol its not exaclty ding, u can tell hes really trying for Ryan so its P'ding lol. Watched quite a bit of Spongebob, and just TV in general, and a few movies. Took my exam on Enhancing childrens self esteem, got a 70. We went for a walk one night and it was really nice, we got candy and pop and talked but his poor hip was hurting him and made me feel real bad for wanting to go for a walk. I spent a heck of a lot more time around his family, they still make me nervous but less nervous now lol. I can actually walk thru parts of his house without him and not feel too terribly wrong and I can have a conversation with his sister lol. I didnt feel too well for a few of the days which sucked and he wasnt feeling too hot either and Blakes sick so now Ryans getting sick. We did a lot of talking, which is expected, but Im always afraid of fucking things up by saying the wrong thing.. I guess as long as everything I say is the truth than I cant be too afraid. A lot of tickling happened, A LOT! He tends to like to torture me lol. His family has to think he like beats me or something cause Im sure they can hear me screaming no, please, stop, and sorry lol but I got him good a few times myself :) If I work hard enough I can get his arms pinned down, but never for very long cause hes too strong. I got to do a lot of one thing thats really become one of my favorite things to do and thats listen to him sing.
So thru all the video games, TV, playing around, talking, cuddling, and kissing I had a pretty great week and I wouldnt have choosen to spend it any differently. I already miss him. He said I could have stayed longer but the last thing I want to do is wear out my welcome. I feel pretty welcome there and I dont want that to change.
So yeah, that was basically my week plus all the other random things I remembered that are actually on their right days and all the things I may have forgotten. Sorry this is all gonna get uploaded together, out of interent again :/

Sticky note. You cant see the 1 and I apologize for that lol but I liked the picture so use your imagination, it is there. I see longhorns along side the road a lot, whats not to like about cows with horns? lol One day I will work up the nerve to go knock on a rachers door, or better yet ring there little buzzer at the outside of their gate, and ask them if I can take some pictures. I wouldnt want to take pictures without permission, not in Texas lol.

Eat your crusts

Eat your crusts

For this project I had to choose what my earliest memory was and create a book from that.
The memory I chose was from when I was about 7 and was camping in Cornwall. There were lots of wasps everywhere and one morning I was eating honey loops and found a wasp in my cereal. Because I was young I convinced myself that the wasp came from the packet and honey loops and hadnt flown in from the sky. Since then I have not been able to eat honey loops and still cant.
From this I started to look at childrens vast imaginations and how they are so niave.
This led me onto lies that parents tell their children. For example when i was younger my dad told me that when the ice cream van plays music it means that the van has ran out of ice cream. Another one he told me was that if I ran fast enough I could dodge the rain.
I have designed a colouring book in which are il- lustrations to go with lies that I have heard being told to children. These are:
If you eat and apple pip a tree will grow inside your tummy. If you pick your nose it will push your eyebrow hair out.
If you suck your tumb it will make it shrink. When the ice cream man plays his music he has ran out. Dogs with short legs have been on more walks. If you run fast enough you can dodge the rain. Your teddies get lonely if you leave them beside your bed. Batteries are powered by tiny mice on bikes inside them. Rain is Jesus’ wee. The easter bunny delivers your easter eggs.
The book is french folded and perferated down the middle. The idea is that the child would colour the book in. However if the child should want to find out the truth behind the lie they could rip down the middle of the page and expose the truth underneath on the remaining spread. Once the truth has been found there is no going back. The bit of the book which has been ripped out has the lie on it and ca be kept as a memory. One the pages have all been ripped and the truth is being shown for all lies then the front and back cover rips off leaving the title
of the book ‘If you don’t eat your crusts you’ll get curly hair” to say “Eat your crusts” which is really what the parents are trying to say when using that lie. It’s a book of truth.
