You know when someone leaves extra time on a parking meter, you get super excited? When someone leaves time on a microwave, it's a different story. You're like, "So what -- you can't finish the last couple of seconds?" Or "Why can't you just take half a second to clear the timer?" UGH to the tenth power. Almost every morning, one of the first things that I do is walk to the microwave and clear the timer. Yes, it's super annoying, but I guess some people just forget. Understandable. But this is what just boggles my mind: Sometimes I'd see the timer and there are still 4-5 minutes left on the timer. What the what??? Way to overestimate the heating time. I mean, if you're gonna heat up a cup of hot chocolate, you know that it only takes about 1 minute, right? Or when you're gonna microwave Cup O'Noodles, it only takes 3 minutes, RIGHT? (I mean, it says so on the styrofoam cup!) So WHY in the world would you put so much time on the microwave, only to stop at the 4:44 mark? I just... I don't... What the --? Summer vegetable appetizer or light lunch Garden tomatoes, sliced crimini mushrooms (I needed to use them up!), sliced Black Beauty zucchini (we grew!), a sprinkle of four Mexican cheeses, a drizzle of olive oil, and a shake of garlic powder and spicy pizza seasoning. All piled onto a slice of focaccia roasted garlic bread and then heated. You could broil, or heat in a 400 degree oven; I microwaved for two minutes because it's too HOT to use the oven. I adore summer vegetables and the many things that you can create with them. This is something I never tried before—a kind of open-faced sandwich that would be good as an appetizer or a light lunch. Give me tomatoes, olive oil and garlic and I think I'd eat them on a slab of styrofoam!
