Flower of Cannonball Tree - Naga Pushpam
Cannonball Tree (proper name:Couroupita guianensis)
The reason the tree is called cannonball is after flowering, large brown fruit balls are formed in the size and shape of cannonballs. The "fruit" inside the ball is said to have an unpleasant odor.
The flower of the Cannonball Tree has a waxy texture & is heavenly scented - a cross between a fine expensive perfume and a wonderful flower scent. The flowers are formed off unusual thick woody extensions that grow from the main brown scaly trunk bark of the tree and cascade down in large numbers
Single Flower
For this image I just isolated a single flower head and used the 10 second timer on the camera. While it was counting down, I went round and held a black piece of card behind the flower to make it stand out.
There was natural light coming in from the right and a halogen lamp directed from the ceiling.
