Carbon Fiber Bicycle Rims
- One of the lightest frame and component materials, carbon fiber (also called just carbon) is unique in that it's a fabric, not a metal. This allows gossamer weights, incredible strength and impressive frame/fork compliance (vibration damping) because the fibers can be oriented in myriad ways.
- A synthetic material consisting of fibers glued together with epoxy that is very strong for its weight.
- A material consisting of thin, strong crystalline filaments of carbon, used as a strengthening material, esp. in resins and ceramics

Ryder Hesjedal's Cervelo R5CA
Every rider on Garmin-Cervelo seemed to have a different model of bike. Out of the 4 bikes pictured, it looks like 3 different frame styles (S3, R5CA and R3SL). Ryder has the super light crazy expensive ($US9000+ for frameset alone) R5CA, which came out of the Cervelo Project California. All of the team bikes are carbon fiber, but one way Cervelo saves weight on the R5CA is to leave the frame bare carbon, no paint, just the black Cervelo stickers. You can also see the R5CA uses smaller diameter tubing, and from what I've read, the tubing itself is thinner than other Cervelo tubes.
All of the Garmin-Cervelo bikes have one thing in common-- Mavic Cosmic deep dish carbon fiber rims.

Mike's Monster Bike 1
I call this a "monster bike". I figure it's not really tall enuf to call a "tall bike". Cranks are probably only ~20 inches off ground. It's from a dual suspension Magna. I'll try to get a more detailed picture soon. The bike rides very normally except for being abnormally smooth over bumps. To ride up a curb, I only have to do the slightest pulling back on the handlebars and a tiny hop to unweight for the rear to climb up. I got lucky and hit the geometry just right except for very slightly too neutral steering.
Insanely cool hand-made dual suspension
This bike was SOOOOO sick! I'm not even into the whole double-boinger thing, but I have to give respect. This bike was so ridiculously gorgeous. I voted for it in the "best of show" survey.

My Mother is so nostalgic for the Taylor Tot, and remembers her Mother walking the little ones in it. Mom is a grandmother now and really wants to get one for herself. She saw a woman walking her grandson in one at the park and asked where she got it. The lady said she was just very lucky at yard sales and has two. Mom told me "You should have seen all the people flocking to her to ask the same things! People my age just love them so! It brings me right back to childhood..."
Annual Neighborhood Bike Parade
Yearly two great moms in my neighborhood hold a bike parade. Everyone is welcome. You can walk, ride a bike, push a stroller, pull a wagon, rollerblade or ride on the historic Mount Clemens Fire Engine that leads the parade. A sheriff takes up the rear. Some children decorate their bikes. The parade ends at the playground where there is an ice cream social. It's a nice little afternoon. We always have FUN!

Prospect Tower II
This small flint tower stands on the very edge of the garden of Belmont Park (the house was remodelled by Samuel Wyatt in 1792), approached by an avenue of walnut trees. On its other side is a mature park and a now ragged cricket pitch. It was built in about 1808 for General, later Lord, Harris of Seringapatam. He called it his ‘Whim’, and one suspects that the pleasant upper room, at least, was his own den, into which the family were sometimes allowed for tea.
The General bought Belmont, which owed its name to its ‘high situation and extensive prospect’, in 1801, with prize money won in India. Farming and gardening were his chief enthusiasms and he soon doubled the size of the pleasure grounds to include the land in which the tower still stands.
The enthusiasm of the 4th Lord Harris was of a different kind. He was one of the fathers of cricket, and it was he who created a pitch in about 1870 and commandeered this tower as a changing room: hooks for the gear still decorate the walls. There are only two rooms in the tower for living and sleeping, but the prospect from its windows is still extensive; and you can dream of all those centuries, hoped for and, sometimes, achieved.

an old Suzuki Bike seen in Indonesia ..... and yes, it was in use. I look at it now and wonder how anyone could have actually ridden it.
