Griffin Technology 4020-TALK iTalk Voice Recorder for iPod
GRIFFIN iTalk -- Finally, an iPod Voice Recorder done the right way, with integrated mic and loudspeaker and styling that makes your iPod look even more heavenly! Plays back recordings through amazingly loud and clear integrated speaker, or optional headphones Pass-through headphone jack allows you to monitor voice recording, or listen to music without having to remove iTalk Download recordings to your computer for archiving or playback With iTalk - your iPod will listen to you! Supported iPod Models - 3rd-Generation (4 Horizontal Buttons) / 4th-Generation (Click Wheel) / iPod color / iPod photo
In its bid to make the iPod the handiest device on the planet (right up there with the Swiss Army knife), Griffin created the iTalk voice recorder, a combination microphone/speaker that attaches to your iPod's headphone and remote outputs. Griffin suggests using the iTalk for any number of tasks, from recording personal memos and interviews to archiving class lectures to listening to an audiobook on the speaker without wearing your headphones. And because the iPod offers such a large storage capacity, iTalk users can literally record thousands of hours of voice audio without running out of memory, making the device far more convenient than a portable cassette recorder.
Design and Setup
Griffin has been designing Apple accessories since 1992, so it's no stranger to the sleek styling encouraged by Steve Jobs and crew. And the iTalk--with its smooth, white housing and slick, silver-colored speaker--fits in perfectly. It also pays tribute to the Apple ethos by requiring no setup: just plug it in and start recording (the recording functions appear automatically on the iPod screen). Once the device is connected, a user relies on the click wheel to record, pause, play, save, and delete files. The iPod then stores the files in a Voice Memos folder within the Extras menu. Each time you sync your iPod to iTunes, the files transfer into an iTunes playlist also called Voice Memos, where you can listen to them on your computer or transfer them to other multimedia programs (they're saved as WAV files).
The iTalk includes a couple of features that help it stand out above competitors' products. The first is an automatic gain control, which instinctively adjusts the signal level to achieve the best possible recording. The second is a multifunction pass-through jack located on top of the unit. This lets users plug their headphones directly into the iTalk rather than removing the device to access the iPod's headphone output. Users can also connect an external microphone to the iTalk to enjoy additional recording options. In addition, the iTalk archives the date and time of the recording--a plus for people working on date-specific material.
Features and Performance
At its best, the iTalk performs solidly. The recordings are clear and easy to decipher, and the microphone picks up sounds from all over the room. We tested the iTalk's microphone at distances of a few inches, a foot, 5 feet, and 20 feet, and each time it performed admirably. It also picks up TV speakers and some ambient noise, depending on the situation. Playback quality is mixed, however. It's decent through the built-in speaker when played at high volumes (the sound can be somewhat scratchy), but very good through the headphones. Anybody using the iPod to transcribe recordings should definitely use the latter, as the audio is much crisper.
Unfortunately, the iTalk isn't always at its best. For unknown reasons, it often fails to play recordings it just made through the built-in speaker. The files play for a few seconds, and then the menu inexplicably returns to the recording screen. Occasionally, you can play the file by trying again, but other times the file stubbornly refuses to open. The same files often played just fine through the headphones, indicating that the problem originates in the speaker rather than the microphone. However, anyone using the iTalk for important recording tasks--something more than archiving grocery lists, say--should test the iTalk thoroughly to verify that the files are recording properly. Users should also be aware that the iTalk doesn't actually start recording until three or four seconds after the light turns on, which is somewhat aggravating at first, although you adjust quickly.
The problems with the built-in speaker extended to other forms of playback as well. Griffin touted the iTalk as a great way to listen to audiobooks without headphones, but it refused to play Jon Stewart's America (the Audiobook). Many users have complained that the iTalk often locks up their iPods, especially if the iTalk is installed when the iPod turns on. We suffered through a single lockup, which required a quick reset, but didn't experience the problems described by other users. It's possible that the latest iPod software updates have resolved the freezing issues, but the glitch appears at least common enough to mention.
The iTalk is a mixed bag overall. The concept is terrific, and when Griffin releases the next generation of iTalk, it'll likely be a great buy. But in the meantime, users should proceed with caution. If you can afford to re-record your memos on the occasions that playback fails--or if you can test the microphone to make sure the speaker is the only source of the problem--the iTalk can be quite handy. However, if reliability is a major concern, such as when recording one-time lectures or interviews or archiving song ideas, iPod owners might want to take a pass. --Rivers Janssen
Pros
Recording quality is quite good
Sleek, attractive design complements iPod perfectly
Pass-through jack lets user connect headphones or external mic
Cons
Playback often fails through built-in speaker
Many iPod owners have experienced lockups when iTalk is connected
3- or 4-second delay before recording starts
What's in the Box
iTalk microphone/speaker, user's manual.
If you thought your Apple iPod was just an MP3 player, you're in for a surprise: Griffin Technology's tailor-made iTalk plugs into the top of your iPod and turns your digital music player into a world-class voice recorder with literally thousands of hours of recording time.
With iTalk you can record seminars, meetings, classes, notes in your car, songs in the woods, whatever your life or imagination dictates. iTalk's built-in monaural microphone is designed to record crystal-clear audio from sources up to 100 feet away, and onboard Automatic Gain Control ensures optimal recording levels. You can even connect an external microphone directly to iTalk for greater flexibility.
iTalk's built-in speaker is great for playback of voice memos. You can also use iTalk as a mini-speaker for your iPod's music files. Play your favorite audio book through iTalk or listen to a downloaded seminar. You'll never realize how much you've missed a built-in speaker--until you have one.
There's a stereo headphone jack too, of course. It includes an iPod passthrough circuit so you can monitor your voice recording or listen to your music without removing iTalk. You can even download your recordings to play back on your computer.

Orange Gang Car Whippany RR Museum NJ
The Fairmont Gas Engine & Railway Motor Car Co. was founded in Fairmont, Minnesota in 1909 and began building a variey of gasoline-powered motor cars which would replace the Pump Car. These early internal-combustion vehicles became the basis for all motor cars built since. By 1949, the renamed Fairmont Railway Motors Company was offering 19 models of motor cars to customers, most being available in 11 different gauges from 23" to 66".
Fairmont became a pioneer in the development of mechanized track maintenance equipment and introduced hydraulic power to the difficult tasks of pulling and driving track spikes and replacing crossties. In the 1940's Fairmont developed road / rail guide wheel attachments, and its HY-RAIL (R) guide wheel units revolutionized track inspection transportation. Demand was very strong for 50 years, but by the 1970's, sales of motor cars were slipping, due to the rapidly shrinking railroad network and a widespread switch to Hy-Rail Vehicles. The Hy-Railers, which utilize a commercial truck frame and body that can travel on both track and roadways, began to rapidly replace the faithful motor car as a way to transport trackworkers and equipment. In 1979 Fairmont was acquired by the Harsco Corporation, and became part of Harsco Track Technologies. The last of a total of nearly 73,000 Fairmont motor cars was manufactured in 1991.
The Museum's Section Gang Car is a Fairmont Railway Motors "A6-F" Model built new for the Morristown & Erie Railroad (M&E) circa 1956. The unit weighs approximately 5,100 lbs, is just under 10 feet long and has a seating capacity of 6-9 workers. It is powered by a Ford Industrial 6-cylinder, 185-horsepower, 300 cubic-inch engine, and is capable of 20- 40 mph. It is a 4-wheel drive model with a 4-speed transmission. Fairmont manufactured 1,216 models of this type between 1956 and 1985. As built, the car features front and rear windscreens and bulkheads as well as a roof. Originally the sides were open, but had additional canvas side-curtains to protect the crew during inclement weather. During the 1980's the M&E added removable side doors with windows as a feature to further protect the crews and keep the car locked up at night.

This authoritative work provides a systematic, comprehensive overview of theory and research on adult attachment. The authors—who have been at the forefront of this rapidly growing field since the concepts of "adult attachment" and "attachment style" were first developed—trace how Bowlby and Ainsworth's original constructs have evolved through the study of adolescents and adults. They review extant measures and analyze how attachment theory has been used to advance scientific understanding of emotions, social cognition, close relationships, psychopathology, and psychotherapy.

Arctic Fox: Life at the Top of the World
Curious, innovative and mysterious survivors of the arctic tundra.
Ever since explorers began venturing north into the harsh lands of the arctic, they have encountered arctic foxes in the unlikeliest of places. The arctic fox is an extraordinary creature. No bigger than a house cat, it survives on almost nothing in the middle of a land so hostile it seems incompatible with the very existence of life. The tundra is a place of endless days or endless nights where temperatures can reach -58°F (-50°C) for weeks at a time, and where the terrain consists mostly of ice sheets, pack ice, ice floes, icebergs, ice shelves and glaciers.
Arctic Fox tells the story of this animal from its evolutionary beginnings to its difficult life in the far north involving:
Mating and raising a family
Hunting and scavenging
Its relationship with the polar bear and other arctic inhabitants
The fur trade
Adaptation to seasonal changes
The never-ending struggle for survival in a fragile and vanishing environment.
This informative, lively and beautifully photographed book will fascinate naturalists and general readers.

Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
Having commemorated their tenth anniversary with a year-plus run commencing with In Your Honor (a double album the New York Times called an "unexpected magnum opus"), sold out rock arena shows and a toned down intimate theater trek, and a headlining gig at London's Hyde Park for a crowd of 85,000, the question looms larger than any in the Foo Fighters' career to date: What do they do for an encore?!? The answer comes in the form of "The Pretender," the first single from the band's sixth studio album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, out on Roswell/RCA. Produced by Gil Norton, who last worked with the band on 1997's double-platinum The Colour and The Shape (recently reissued in deluxe 10th anniversary form), Dave Grohl, bassist Nate Mendel, drummer Taylor Hawkins and guitarist Chris Shiflett have crafted a 12-track milestone that showcases and reconciles the band's every strength and sensibility in the most complex and confident Foo Fighters album to date.

Foo Fighters
In 1997, Foo Fighters teamed with alt-rock production cornerstone Gil Norton to make their best album, The Colour and the Shape. Ten years later, they've regrouped with Norton for a disc that's more sophisticated and diverse, if a tad less rockin'. The curveballs include "Stranger Things Have Happened," a solo soul-searcher where leader Dave Grohl's accompanied by just his acoustic guitar and a ticking metronome, and "Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners," an acoustic guitar duet for Grohl and guest virtuoso Kaki King. Plus "Summers End" tickles the Foos' classic-rock fetish with a dead-on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young arrangement. There's still enough of the intense, snarling power-pop that's Foo Fighters' longtime forte. "The Pretender," "Erase/Replace," and "Long Road to Ruin" combine sheer thrust, zeal, and melody like no other group currently on the charts. Yet the finale, "Home," makes its clear that this is a changed band--or, at least, that Grohl's a changed man. With only his piano for company, Grohl's pleading voice reveals fragile layers of insecurity and loneliness as he sings "all I want is to be home." Seems this rock & roll road warrior's mellowed some, albeit without compromising Foo Fighters' vitality. --Ted Drozdowski

The latest stabbing death occurred Sept. 14 at the Main Rooms, 177 Main St., just before midnight. Marilyn Whiskey-Jack, 42, was seen in the hallway yelling that she had been stabbed. Paramedics rushed Whiskey-Jack to the hospital, where she later died.
Five days earlier, a 24-year-old cyclist was hospitalized and will require plastic surgery after a stranger slashed her in the face, hitting an artery. The woman was riding her bicycle and stopped at Powell and Dunlevy when the man attacked her.
There was also an incident Sept. 14 in which a 49-year-old man was struck in the head with a hatchet - and survived - and another March 24 when a man impaled his victim with an eight-foot piece of rebar. [The victim] died in hospital the next day.
In May, a 50-year-old man was sent to St. Paul's Hospital and was in danger of losing an eye after two men violently attacked him in Blood Alley, alleging that he had robbed a friend. Two aboriginal men, possibly 18 to 25 years old, punched, kicked and stabbed the man. One of the assailants jumped on the victim's legs while the other hit him with a rock.
In July, at a 7-Eleven store in the 2000-block East Hastings, a clerk was robbed by the same knife-wielding man three times over a 24-hour span.

bikes on barrow street
"If you worried about falling off the bike, you'd never get on." - Lance Armstrong.
Here's a really pathetic fact about me:
I never learned how to ride a bike.
I KNOW, it's absolutely the saddest thing you've ever heard since you found out Michael Jackson died! I should be on Oprah, seriously....
(LOL) Now that I'm done being sarcastic and silly, I will divulge the reason I don't know how to ride a bike; I was never really taught. I remember the day my mother took off the training wheels. I fell, started to cry, and I guess my mom just lost patience with me 'cause I was never taught again. =(
But, I digress. Life goes on. =D
So, I know I said I'd upload the pics from the Met game I went to on Friday, but I'm way behind on my uploads and I'm determined to just upload one a day so as to not burden my photostream with photos that get lost in the shuffle and forgotten. Thanks everyone for waiting patiently! <3

sweet new RIDE. only a temporary get-arounder. its a bit small and not in the safest condition (handlebar problems, mostly), but its vastly better than my irritating road bike.

GRUMMAN G-164 AG-CAT
The Grumman G-164 Ag-Cat is the first aircraft specifically designed by a major aircraft company for agricultural aviation and is one of the most successful as well. Following World War II, agricultural aviation (aerial chemical, fertilizer and seed application) rapidly expanded with the growth of food production for the post-war domestic and export markets. The Grumman Aircraft Company saw the need for a special purpose "duster" design and, after consulting with agricultural pilots and companies around the country, introduced the Ag-Cat in 1957. In 2008, piston and turbine powered Ag-Cats are still performing this critical and dangerous duty.
Dusting crops with insect-control chemicals began in the south in the early 1920s as a tool to combat the cotton industry's boll weevil nemesis. The venerable war surplus WWI Curtiss JN-4D Jenny was put into service, but it soon became apparent that a more "purpose designed" crop duster was needed. The Huff-Daland Manufacturing Company of Ogdensburg, New York modified its Petrel 5 military/commercial biplane into a practical duster with a chemical tank and spreader system and formed the Huff-Daland Duster Company in Louisiana. C.E. Woolman soon took over the faltering company and with entomologist Dr. Bert Coad built a pioneering insect and chemical research and aerial delivery business throughout the country. Woolman also expanded the business to include passenger and freight carrying and renamed it Delta Air Service, which became Delta Airlines. With the deep Depression years of the 1930s and then World War II, further development of crop duster airplanes was shelved until after the war. Delta Airlines later restored one of the only two remaining original Huff-Daland Dusters and donated it to the Smithsonian's National Air Museum in 1968; it now hangs at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near this Grumman G-164.
After World War II, surplus Stearman military biplane trainers were pressed into duster service to fulfill the urgent need, many of them structurally reinforced and equipped with surplus Pratt and Whitney 450 hp radial engines to handle the rigors of the very low altitude, high "g force" crop dusting maneuvers. The Stearman was a good airplane; however, it and other civil aircraft such as the DC-6 and Antonov AN-2M were never designed for sustained flying in this type of environment. Crop dusting is flying swaths of fields at extremely low altitude (8-10 feet), performing procedural turns at low altitude, and climbing and diving expediently for position and to avoid wires and trees. The field of flight must be exact to ensure precise, even application and contain drift of the load only onto the field and not onto homes or roads. Power management, maneuverability, and changing weight and balance combined with wind drift and specific application characteristics of the load add to the ever-changing equation for the pilot. Consequently a number of airplane companies began to consider an airplane design to meet these specific requirements.
In 1955, Grumman preliminary design engineers Joe Lippert and Arthur Koch proposed the design for a "purpose built" crop dusting airplane as a means of fulfilling a pressing need by the agricultural community as well as the perceived need for Grumman to diversify its product lines. A major consideration for their rugged and maneuverable biplane duster concept was the availability of thousands of inexpensive war surplus 220 horsepower Continental radial engines. The aircraft structure would have to be very strong to accommodate the large hopper, payload, and accompanying spray/spreader equipment and sustain safe flight. For expediency, prototype construction began at Lippert's home as Roy Grumman approved their plan for experimental test prototypes in 1956 and also provided a hanger and a limited number of personnel and funding for building and testing at Bethpage, Long Island.
The Ag-Cat's first flight, made on May 27, 1957, went exceedingly well with the second prototype following one month later. Three senior crop dusting pilots were brought in from various parts of the country to test the airplane and, in the summer of 1958, an extended east coast demonstration tour allowed well over 100 duster pilots to put the two prototypes through their paces. The pilots were delighted with its handling qualities and its low stall speed of 67 mph as stalling an aircraft, i.e. loss of lift, while entering a turn at low speed and low altitude was a major crop duster pitfall. Pilots were also impressed with the cockpit that offered good visibility and was designed to withstand a 40 g impact. One of the pilots, Dick Reade, suggested the name "Ag-Cat" in keeping with Grumman's practice of using the word "cat" in its military aircraft nomenclature, i.e. Hellcat; Reade's name is painted on this NASM aircraft.
.
Upon their return to Bethpage, Lippert and his team found that an u
The Luxurious New Plymouth with Floating Power, 1931 - Promotional Sales Brochure [Page 4]
The Luxurious NEW PLYMOUTH
With FLOATING POWER
The Extraordinary Mechanical Excellence of the New, Finer PLYMOUTH
QUALITY has always been the first consideration in designing and building Plymouth cars. And the quality which was high when Plymouths sold for two hundred dollars more than they do now, has been surpassed in this new, finer Plymouth which is one of the lowest price cars in the world.
The new, finer Plymouth is a four-cylinder car with Floating Power engine mountings which provide the smoothness of an Eight with the economy of a Four. The Plymouth engine is of the L-head type which is the simplest type of engine and used by 68 out of the 82 cars built in America.
Plymouth was the first low price car using precision type main bearings although all expensive cars use them. Plymouth has for three years been the only low price car with Full-pressure Lubrication. This is a long life feature which only five American cars have seen fit to do without.
The list of quality features Plymouth gives the low price car buyer is long: aluminum alloy pistons for long life and better engine performance; two air cleaners; crankcase ventilator; steel ring gear on the flywheel, and manual type start which will not stick or break flywheel teeth; more anti-friction bearings than on any other low price car; a heavy rigidly mounted counterweighted crankshaft --
And Hydraulic Brakes, with Centrifuse Drums; Safety-Steel Bodies; Silent Second with Easy-Shift Transmission; Silent U Spring Shackles; Rigid-X Double-Drop Frame; Automatic Clutch; Free Wheeling, 65 Horsepower and FLOATING POWER, which has been hailed as the greatest automotive engineering achievement of recent years.
Automatic Clutch
Next to Floating Power, the most talked-of recent development is the Automatic Clutch. Plymouth introduces it to the lowest price field in all the fineness that has made is so popular on higher price cars. It relieves you from using the clutch pedal. With the engine idling you have only to put the car in gear, accelerate and the clutch takes hold automatically. Shifting gears becomes now merely selecting the speed range required, with a flick of the finger.
70 Miles an Hour
In terms of performance this fine Plymouth quality means certain very definite advantages to the owner. The engine develops 65 horsepower with a top speed better than 70 miles an hour. Its acceleration is little short of phenomenal.
50 in Second
So efficient is this new Plymouth engine and so perfectly have the gear ratios been selected that you can drive at 50 miles an hour in second. Combined with Plymouth's Free Wheeling this fast, powerful second speed is of tremendous value in traffic. This second speed is a marvel of quietness, practically as quiet as high gear operation.
New Comfort Provisions
Many new comforts unusual in low price cars are offered in the new, finer Plymouth. The long wheelbase results in a larger, more spacious car. The Rigid-X Double-Drop Frame produces utterly new sensation of solidness and firmness on rough roads. The new Silent-I Spring Shackles produce a new soft spring action. The Steering Shock Eliminator introduces you to an altogether new ease of steering.
So with the advent of the new, finer Plymouth with Floating Power, your dollars can buy more than ever before -- more performance, more safety, more style and comfort, more economy of upkeep -- more quality.

These cards can come from any set and there will be a great variety of spell, monster, and trap cards. Check out the picture for an example of YuGiOh cards. Your lot might contain cards in the picture, but the photo is not of the specific cards in each lot. Each lot is a random assortment.

Louet Elite Drumcarder
This carder was designed for the spinners who want to be able to perform a range of techniques on their carder. There are many new features - The carding cloth for one. The teeth are made with finer wire and the spacing is closer than the Classic Drumcarder. The licker-in drum has a short needle carding cloth that is spirally attached to it so it can efficiently feed a variety of fibers onto the large drum. The licker-in drum can be adjusted closer to or further from the swift drum depending on the fibers you are carding using the adjusting knobs. There are two in feed speeds so you can blend different fibers with ease without fibers gulping on or getting damaged. There is also an in feed tray that you use to stage the order that you feed the fibers and colors on. The carder is designed to do a range of tasks - it can perform basic carding tasks, blending colors and it can also easily blend a variety of fibers into batts. If you want a versatile drumcarder - this is the one.
Only in Idaho
This guy was parked at the Chevron in Blackfoot, Idaho this morning. At first I thought it was a convertible, but then I saw he had merely cut the roof off his Buick. The front tire was wedged between the front seats, the rear tire was tied with bail...ing twine to what was left of his bumper, the tie-downs on the handlebars were hooked to the window frames. He had a "spinner" knob on the steering wheel. Also, the car is available, there was a For Sale sign in the front window (I don't know if the bike comes with it). Only in Idaho.

The cabins we stayed in had a horseshoe court set up; we all took turns playing 'shoes. It's been a while since I've played so needless to say, I was a bit rusty.
136a Wildflowers and wagon wheel
I also planted a rambling rose bush behind the wagon wheel, but it seems that the deer liked to nibble on it. Better luck this year!
