Re-cycled Cycles

These wheels were taken to a scrap metal yard in Richmong BC for recycling. With a strong push from so many to keep garbage out of the landfills, and a bigger push for alternate sources of fuel, this will actually help to do both. Although seeing wheels being crunched doesn't seem like an ad for cycling, it is a testament to a local bike shop. They have seen an increasing number of cyclists buying bicycles and getting back on the road, for health, commuting, etc. Later bringing them back in for repairs and replacements, the shop needed to dispose of some of the busted wheels to find a better use for the metal.

Wrong Side Of The Road

:"-( All excited when i saw this as being the replacement sign from the one on the back of the Strangeways album (that was nicked not long after the album came out). I had read that the replacement sign had the ring roads/Leeds/Oldham/Salford - when I checked (after returning) I realised I was on the opposite side of the junction - of only I had been etc etc. FARK n FAIL. Grrrr. Maybe one day.

Now the secret portion........... As a mom I feel compelled to say that I understand what it feels like to listen to people boo your kids when they mess up and then whoo hoo your kids when they make a good play. I know that I am a loyal fan to a few college teams (I dont want to add the pro's because they get paid regardless and I also feel that a lot of heart is lost once you earn money to play the game) but that child whether it be male or female is someone's child, and when you boo them or curse them for not making the right pass or shot or whatever it still hurts.

I love when my kids win but I am also very aware that when they win it also means that someone else did not. Winning feels good and in competitive sports I know there must be a winner and a loser, however it makes me sad that it hurts the kids that work so hard and for their efforts they lose a game or a match or a meet.

I guess even though its not a huge deep dark secret it is a secret I wish that everyone could be winners and no child had to suffer the heartache and heartbreak of losing.

(but woo hoooo the Gators won!)

It was interesting watching the prowling behavior of the Gators as they tracked, hunted and then attacked the Shad. They made this side ways push out of the water, then dove, coming up with a fish. (more of the sequence to come)

My name is Sean Collins, I'm from Wilmington, DE USA and this is my baby. She's a 1988 Merkur XR4Ti 5spd manual with every option. I'm a mechanical engineering student at the University of Delaware and I haven't had a lot of time or money for my beauty, but she gets all of it that I can spare. She has an absolutely immaculate interior, very nice exterior and only 92000 miles on the odo. I bought her with 70000, and have fixed her up, and added a few details since. I have upgraded to Cosworth RS500 front brakes (which took a lot of work to fit under the stock 15inch wheels), she has a SAAB 900 intercooler and I am in the process of upgrading to an RS500 intercooler, the turbo has been released to 23psi, I replaced the computer and Vane Air Meter with a mustang SVO's, the tires are potenza RE92 (which stick like glue), the intake has been modified and tested to produce the best power (ended up building a holder for the new cone intake that attaches to the opening over the wheel well), the exhaust is a straight through 3inch deal (including the turbo's exhaust housing-lot of work and there back) that exits just past the passenger door for a bit of creativity, no cat (but still passed emissions!), the turbo is an enlarged garrett T3 (stock) that now has the intake wheel of a T4 (its basically a T3/T4 grand national turbo), I installed log headers and a fully ported and polished upper and lower intake manifold. There's plenty of minor modifications all over my baby, but I did my best to keep her stock on the outside because I absolutely love the look of this odd little car. Everywhere I go I get questions and looks from all types of people. Some less informed people refer to it as a rebadged escort gt, (this makes me nearly violent), as I'm sure anyone reading this much will know, this car is based on the european sierra (rear-wheel-drive) but has a special engine. The 2.3L Turbo under the hood is based on the pinto's motor's design (so is the cosworth YB, one of the greatest 4 bangers ever made), but also is the building block for ford's modern 4.6L mod engine. Mine dynos at about 260whp, not bad for simple modifications, and the 2850lb curb weight helps its performance as well. I certainly dont get many races around here unless its a v8 on account of the whistling turbo, side exhaust, and beating I put on local civics. P.S. I absolutely LOVE autoblog I read it twice a day at least.

Artist bio
Ryan Spencer Reed (b. 1979) is an American photographer whose journey documenting social issues began after graduating from college in 2002 following a move to central and east Africa. Working in that region and covering the Sudanese Diaspora for nearly 9 years, Ryan has entered Sudan a half dozen times in addition to covering the mass exodus of refugees to Eastern Chad and Kenya. This work was widely exhibited in the States and abroad in venues such as the Field Museum, and the Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC among many others.. The Open Society Institute & Soros Foundation awarded him with the Documentary Photography Project's Grant to help this work reach additional audiences. While exhibiting and speaking internationally on the subject of Sudan, he is nearing the completion a long-term project on the hubris of power and the twilight of the American industrial revolution. A chapter of this work on Detroit was exhibited in last year's Art Prize, and finished in the top 50.

In the wake of nearly three decades of brutal civil war, the population of South Sudan lies shattered and strewn across the Central and East African landscape. More than two and half million people have been killed and another five million have been internally and externally displaced by the conflict. As of July of this year, South Sudan has achieved its independence, seceding from its oppressors and has become the newest nation on the planet. Since January of 2003, however, a new exodus flooded the western border region of Darfur in Sudan with displaced persons fleeing the same regime responsible for the southern tragedy. Despite the fact that the United States has formally labeled this diaspora genocide, the killing continues unchecked, threatening to shed blood on every grain of sand.

The cost of doing nothing is one humanity can never afford.

Nikki Kazmar graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design in the spring of 2011 with a BFA in Painting. During the last year at Kendall, she became involved with Exquisite Corpse Artist Collective where she has been active since. At Exquisite Corpse, she is involved with curating exhibitions, installing exhibitions, and working in the studio space the collective provides her with. Exquisite Corpse focuses on giving emerging artists a venue to show work that might not be accepted at main stream galleries. It also provides its own members a place to be involved with group shows as well as solo shows. She plans to stay involved with the collective to continue developing the ideas that were of interest to her thesis, as well as engaging with the art community.

Description of work: As humans, our minds are always working as we carry out a continuous, silent, internal dialogue. We are not normally given access to the free flowing activity inside some else's mind, but what if we were? As we immerse ourselves into our brain chatter and pursue even deeper thoughts, the environments we live in become foggy and distant, separating our internal realm and the physical reality. To bridge the separation between personal thoughts and the outside world, I'm translating thoughts as they stream through someone's mind allowing the audience to connect and to experience the thought stream.

The process of this painting beings with a photograph of an environment, representing the concrete nature of the physical world, then I've sanded it to push it back into obscurity. The audience must sort through transparent layers of glazes, text, and imagery. to find fleeting ideas and blips of language, then become personally engaged to translate the thought stream.

A total of 420 Roadsters and 580 GTs were made before the closure of Abingdon and the last of each model now resides with the Heritage Trust alongside their famous collection of historic vehicles at the Heritage Centre, Gaydon.

Details of the water cups of a Pelton Wheel located at the Colorado Mining Museum. The sculpted hollows were designed to extract all available energy from a high-velocity water jet. These were used extensively in mountainous mining areas.

The water jet was sent to cups at twice the wheel's peripheral speed. If everything worked as planned, the water would stop and fall as all its energy was extracted.

The cups were removable because they would wear out - mostly from small, abrasive grains of sand.

if u all can recall, there was a time, whereby skaters and roller-bladders fill the city like how u see dSLR fill the city nowadays.

i tried to play skate at first, but knowing my size n all, i decided to try on roller blade instead.

if im not mistaken this happened when i was 14. haha.

i remembered i went to Pertama Complex to get myself one roller blade. it was quite hard to find, since, every store i went to, either the price isn't cheap or there were no size. at that time my size is around 7.5.

being desperately wanting the wheel, i end up with a size 10 roller blade -_-;; . but still, i can fit it quite well with my feet.

so there goes me. with the roller blade almost everywhere. i mean, during that time, the only place i went to is across neighborhood and my tuition center. hahaha. i even cross the road using this guy here.

This was a great moment for me seeing the two great British fighters from World War Two together in flight at RIAT, 2010. Two aircraft from two very different approaches to design. The Hurricane the old school and the Spitfire the latest in aircraft technologies. Both took to the air for the first time nearly 75 years ago, the Hurricane 6 November 1935 and the Spitfire 5 March 1936.

"Like all pilots who flew and fought in the Hurricane, I grew to love it. It was strong, highly maneuverable, could turn inside the Spitfire and of course the Me 109. Best of all, it was a marvellous gun platform. The sloping nose gave you a splendid forward view, while the eight guns were set in blocks of four in each wing, close to the fuselage. The aeroplane remained rock steady when you fired. Unlike the Spitfire with its lovely elliptical wing which sloped towards the tip, the Hurricane wing was thicker and straight. The Spitfire was less stead when the guns were firing because, I have always thought, they were spread further along the wing, and the recoil effect was noticeable." Douglas Bader

Funny story behind this one... about a year ago, I being my young and naive self, got roped into a playful game of poker.... for souls. Upon losing, my friend pulled the no trade backsies card, and I was left soul-less, under the condition that I put her in a cool photograph.
Getting tierd of crushing puppies and not tipping waitresses, i decided it was time i got my soul back, and thus, after many bus rides, this pictures was born. i now know that my soul is worth $14.75 in bus fare.

"BELL"

I bought this book for Nathaniel while a tag still covered what sounds each button made. He loved the pictures while we were in the shop, but then he LOVED the sounds! The Wheels on the Bus tune became the constant theme to our day accompanied by wiggle dancing and arms in the air dancing, with occasional variations to the other buttons including the second favourite of "BELL". No denying this boy is gorgeous!!!
