18 STEEL WHEELS

My name is Sean Collins, I'm from Wilmington, DE USA and this is my baby. She's a 1988 Merkur XR4Ti 5spd manual with every option. I'm a mechanical engineering student at the University of Delaware and I haven't had a lot of time or money for my beauty, but she gets all of it that I can spare. She has an absolutely immaculate interior, very nice exterior and only 92000 miles on the odo. I bought her with 70000, and have fixed her up, and added a few details since. I have upgraded to Cosworth RS500 front brakes (which took a lot of work to fit under the stock 15inch wheels), she has a SAAB 900 intercooler and I am in the process of upgrading to an RS500 intercooler, the turbo has been released to 23psi, I replaced the computer and Vane Air Meter with a mustang SVO's, the tires are potenza RE92 (which stick like glue), the intake has been modified and tested to produce the best power (ended up building a holder for the new cone intake that attaches to the opening over the wheel well), the exhaust is a straight through 3inch deal (including the turbo's exhaust housing-lot of work and there back) that exits just past the passenger door for a bit of creativity, no cat (but still passed emissions!), the turbo is an enlarged garrett T3 (stock) that now has the intake wheel of a T4 (its basically a T3/T4 grand national turbo), I installed log headers and a fully ported and polished upper and lower intake manifold. There's plenty of minor modifications all over my baby, but I did my best to keep her stock on the outside because I absolutely love the look of this odd little car. Everywhere I go I get questions and looks from all types of people. Some less informed people refer to it as a rebadged escort gt, (this makes me nearly violent), as I'm sure anyone reading this much will know, this car is based on the european sierra (rear-wheel-drive) but has a special engine. The 2.3L Turbo under the hood is based on the pinto's motor's design (so is the cosworth YB, one of the greatest 4 bangers ever made), but also is the building block for ford's modern 4.6L mod engine. Mine dynos at about 260whp, not bad for simple modifications, and the 2850lb curb weight helps its performance as well. I certainly dont get many races around here unless its a v8 on account of the whistling turbo, side exhaust, and beating I put on local civics. P.S. I absolutely LOVE autoblog I read it twice a day at least.

Futuristic, spacious, well appointed for the time, with lots of Mopar Performance under that L-O-N-G hood!!! Push buttons were a real big deal back then..... Note key in the dashboard rather than on the column and the rearview mirror also mounted on the top of the dash.
