I lost 7 pounds again this week. Actually it's 6.5 but I don't count the tenths. It's easier to round it off. I just finished my second week on the all liquid diet. It's not really that bad. The shakes taste good. I drink 5 a day. I'm not hungry in between. When I was eating food I was always thinking about what I was going to eat next. It seemed like my every thought was about food. I was always shopping for just the right things, reading labels, figuring out menus, dividing my 1400 calories between the three meals and two snackes we were supposed to be having. To be honest it was stressing me out. I was skipping meals because I just didn't want to think about food. I found myself heading towards an eating disorder. After I would eat a meal I wanted to make myself through up. I never did. I recognized that I needed help. I know when this is over in four months I will have to go back to regular food but I have time to prepare for that. Right now I just need to focus on other areas of my life. The food can wait.

I split my jeans today.. yep. sat down in the car after the dentist an "split" I asked myself as it happened "Did i just really feel that?" walked around work with a sweater wrapped around me for the rest of the day.. LOL

I was sitting on the couch nearing the end of January 2007 finishing off my last handful of chex mix when something hit me and I realized “Okay, I really need to put an end to this horrible habit, but I need help”. I think I was nearing 180 lbs so I started to explore all my options: diets, gyms, trainers, even surgery. I began my journey into the wonderful world of trainers. I finally made a commitment to try out this “personal training” experience and bought a package at an un-named private fitness gym. I was so excited to finally start getting motivated and shedding the pounds. I showed up for my first training appointment, had a pretty decent session and then at my next session found out from the owner that my trainer had personal issues and would not be back. There were many other incidences that interfered with my ability to be trained at this gym that I decided that this personal training thing wasn’t for me. In fact, I thought to myself, being thinner and working out was obviously not meant to be for me either. I certainly lost all my motivation to try and all my hope that working out would work.

It had been awhile since the last session, I was still overweight and the weight wasn’t going anywhere, so I decided to go gym shopping. I knew I needed to do something at least for my kids. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but there was something different about The Gridiron that I liked so I decided to join. I was now a member for the first time at a gym, but I just still couldn’t muster the interest to go. But then, I was introduced to Traci. To be honest, I wasn’t so motivated yet, because I just knew that this would be a waste of my time. Boy was I wrong. She genuinely cared about my goals and interests and met with me numerous times outside of our training sessions to check in with me, demonstrate alternative options of work outs, created schedules, and discussed nutritional options to demonstrate her commitment to my weight loss and healthy lifestyle. In between sessions if I needed that extra support, she provided it with a text message or phone call without any hesitation. I finally started to enjoy the working out experience. In my opinion, I don’t think I was such an easy client either, with all my complaining during sessions and frequent bouts of giving up, she persistently stated “You could do it, Denise”, and really believed in me. My commitment became easier and easier, especially since I started to see results within the first few weeks. She made the work outs fun and interesting. I now go to the gym on a daily basis, ride my bike about 13 miles a day, and watch my portion control and food choices. Traci completely transformed my body and taught me ways to continue to enhance this transformation.

To date, I’ve lost 16 inches altogether and 33 pounds. I could not have done this without Traci’s excellent training skills, genuine support, and motivation. Thank you so much Traci for helping me look better, feel better, and have confidence again. I would recommend you without any hesitation. You are the real deal.

I have struggled with weight since I was nine years old. It was like at age eight I was normal; age nine -- fat. Where I would like to be, and what I am told is a healthy weight for my age, is 185 or 190 pounds. My BMI is supposed to be 24 or 25, but is more like 30.

Nobody but me can make it happen. Here to i struggle to get motivated to exercise. I see some of the results and it makes me happy. then if I get distracted and get off schedule I lose focus and don't do it anymore. What a yo-yo.

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North and Central America as well as the West Indies and the Galapagos Islands. It is a rare vagrant to Europe, with records from Spain, the Azores and England. An all-white population found only in the Caribbean and south Florida was once known as a separate species, the Great White Heron.

The Great Blue Heron was one of the many species originally described by Carolus Linnaeus in his 18th century work, Systema Naturae.[2]

The Great Blue Heron is replaced in the Old World by the very similar Grey Heron, which differs in being somewhat smaller (90–98 cm), with a pale gray neck and legs, lacking the browner colors that Great Blue Heron has there. It forms a superspecies with this and also with the Cocoi Heron from South America, which differs in having more extensive black on the head, and a white breast and neck.

There are five subspecies:[3]

* Ardea herodias herodias Linnaeus, 1758. Most of North America, except as below.
* Ardea herodias fannini Chapman, 1901. The Pacific Northwest from southern Alaska south to Washington; coastal.
* Ardea herodias wardi Ridgway, 1882. Kansas and Oklahoma to northern Florida.
* Ardea herodias occidentalis Audubon, 1835. Southern Florida, Caribbean islands. Formerly known as a separate species, the Great White Heron.
* Ardea herodias cognata Bangs, 1903. Galapagos Islands.

The largest North American heron, with a head-to-tail length of 91–140 cm (36-55 in), a wingspan of 167-201 cm (66-79 in), and a weight of 2–3.6 kg (4.4-8 lbs),flight feather]]s, red-brown thighs, and a paired red-brown and black stripe up the flanks; the neck is rusty-gray, with black and white streaking down the front; the head is paler, with a nearly white face, and a pair of black plumes running from just above the eye to the back of the head. The feathers on the lower neck are long and plume-like; it also has plumes on the lower back at the start of the breeding season. The bill is dull yellowish, becoming orange briefly at the start of the breeding season, and the lower legs gray, also becoming orangey at the start of the breeding season. Immature birds are duller in color, with a dull blackish-gray crown, and the flank pattern only weakly defined; they have no plumes, and the bill is dull gray-yellow.[3][4][5]

The heron stride is around 22 cm (9 in), almost in a straight line. Two of the three front toes are generally closer together. In a track the front toes as well as the back often show the small talons.[6]

The subspecies differ only slightly in size and plumage tone, with the exception of subspecies occidentalis, which as well as normal colored birds, also has a distinct white morph, known as the Great White Heron (not to be confused with the Great Egret, for which "Great White Heron" was once a common name). It is found only in south Florida and some parts of the Caribbean. The Great White Heron differs from other Great Blues in bill morphology, head plume length, and in having a total lack of pigment in its plumage. This is mainly found near salt water, and was long thought to be a separate species. Birds intermediate between the normal morph and the white morph are known as Wurdemann's Heron; these birds resemble a "normal" Great Blue with a white head.

The theory that Great White Heron may be a separate species from Great Blue Heron has again been given some support by David Sibley.[7]

The call is a harsh croak. The heron is most vocal during the breeding season, but will call occasionally at any time of the year in territorial disputes or if disturbed.

The "Great White Heron" could be confused with Great Egret but is larger, with yellow legs as opposed to the Great Egret's black legs. The Reddish Egret and Little Blue Heron could be mistaken for the Great Blue Heron, but are smaller, and lack white on the head and yellow in the bill. I had lost 55 pounds on a diet, did it in six months, and got another 15 pounds to go, and my last 15 pounds i want to lose it the hardest. and here is how to make it.

4 egg White~Baked Asparagus N Mushroom Omelette.

In large skillet(frying pan) over med/high heat, saute, ~ 1 tsp spoon of olive oil, ~ 2 to 3 asparagus cut into pieces, ~ 1/4 cup of sliced mushrooms, ~ 1/4 cup of green onions (those long green ones) saute until brown and set aside.

Than in a large bowl beat 4 egg whites, ~ 1/4 cup skim milk, ~ Salt and pepper to taste, but i put next to none salt ~ pinch of ground nutmeg, beat well.

Than stir in the cooked veggies and add 1 oz of low fat cheese.

Pour egg mixture into a greased small baking dish, i use a small glass pie baking dish works good.

Bake, uncovered, in 375F oven for 20 to 25 mins or till set, sprinkle with snipped parsley and serve.

I find i like to bake it for a 1/2 hour, but i have been known to overcook everything, anyways good luck.

This is my first robber fly (Diptera family Asilidae) shot having this orange/golden color.

A macro friend of mine mentioned that what we got yesterday were golden robberflies and he and his friends were tracking down before in the same woods inside NTU grounds, Singapore. I was hoping to catch one yesterday and behold, i was indeed lucky to find this. Actually there are lots of these inside the secluded woods where there is a nearby stream (favorite haunts of robberflies).

I was skeptical if this is a golden robber fly, so I browsed the Internet. Most refer to pictures of the same species but indicate them as simply orange robber flies, not golden (the golden ones looks very different from this).

"What was most impressive about him was that he was such a humble man, even in all of his fame."

Professor Emeritus Ronald Walters, an internationally recognized political scientist, died on September 10 after a long illness. He was 72.

Arrangements for a memorial service have not yet been announced.
Walters had an illustrious career as a teacher, writer, researcher and political activist. He played major roles in the presidential campaigns of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and earned many prestigious academic, publishing and service awards.

Walters wrote a weekly syndicated column of political commentary that appeared in newspapers around the nation. He remained a powerful intellectual and political force until his death.

"Ron Walters was an eminent and inspiring professor, teacher, author, mentor and human being," said Acting University President Nariman Farvardin. "He had a great impact and made a real difference in the world and to all those who knew him. His death is a tremendous loss. Our sincerest condolences go out to his wife, Patricia, and all his family."

"Professor Walters was a scholarly giant," said California Congresswoman Barbara Lee, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. "His scholarly work and sound advice, have assisted many past and present members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and other African American political and civic leaders around the country."

This past August, in Walters' last syndicated column, he shared his view from the mountain, recalling Washington in August, 1963, and the "progressive spirit of the original nonviolent march, which held out the hope of racial reconciliation, and that America would finally cash a check of justice that would allow all of us to invest in the great project of democracy."

Then, Dr. Walters reminded his readers that there is still "work to be done...at home," and that African Americans "should try out their local mobilization legs" to prepare for the fall elections. The stakes will be high, he reminded - "jobs and justice and respecting the values of the movement for which so many people gave their lives, time and energy."

In 1958, as a youth leader in the Wichita NAACP, Walters organized a successful sit-in to protest segregation at a local drugstore - two years before the better-known Greensboro sit-ins, adds Maryland colleague, Tamara Wilds Lawson.

Before retiring from full-time work in July of 2009, Walters carried three major titles at the University of Maryland: Director of the African American Leadership Institute, distinguished leadership scholar at the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership, and professor of government and politics. He was internationally known for his expertise on African American leadership and politics, his writing, and his teaching.
"Ron was an inspiration to all, especially those aspiring to be future leaders," recalls his Academy colleague, Nina Harris. "He touched the lives of students through his teaching and mentoring and will be missed by so many. There was a constant stream of media setting up in the Academy of Leadership Library to conduct interviews but yet he seemed unfazed by it all. He was a part of our family, and I am grateful that I was able to be a part of his journey."

One of Walters' former students, makes a similar point. Baltimore Congressman Elijah Cummings calls him a mentor, whose classes were extremely popular, even though he was a tough grader.

"While he was a quiet man, his opinions always carried a lot of weight in the world of politics and beyond," Cummings said in a statement. "He was a man who consistently told me what I needed to hear even though I may not have wanted to hear it. He touched the lives of all the students who had the honor of being a part of any of his classes."

Walters is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Walters.

CAREER

Walters' career blended academic achievement, a bookshelf of publications and significant political activity. He held senior positions in both of Rev. Jesse Jackson's runs for the White House and lived to see the first African American elected to the U.S. presidency.

"Dr. Ron Walters was the preeminent activist and scholar of our times," Jackson recalled to the Chicago Defender. "The good news is that Ron taught so many scholars. There are those who will now bear truth. So, that tradition will be kept alive."

In 1984, he served the Jackson campaign as deputy campaign manager for issues, and held a similar post in 1988.

Walters received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Government with Honors from Fisk University (1963) and both his M.A. in African Studies (1966) and Ph.D. in International Studies (1971) from American University.

Prior to coming to the University of Maryland in 1996, Walters served as professor and chair

NINE MORE DAYS LEFT AFTER THIS!

I am considering lettin' my 'fro grow out for the winter season. I plan to have a texturizer put in by the weekend so I can have a style and grow my locks out (again), as something to complement my recent weight loss. I ONLY wish I had pictures of myself when my fro was twice this size!

I shaved the beard as well, I'll grow it back eventually. Seems like my hair's gotten longer since I've lost weight.

I ordered a new camera earlier today and I should have it before the weekend. Can't wait to see it!

Originally I had a street scene (around nightime) in mind for today's pic.

I took the picture.

I saw it.

It sucked.

And I used one of my self-portraits (taken earlier) today as a backup.

One of the MANY perks of photography!

Wanted to touch it up on Picture-It!, but I've little time [or patience] for that at the moment, didn't even put my 'stamp' on it!

I've cheated more times (than I should have) on my diet since I've been off work-which has only been a day or two.

I'm trying VERY hard not to let this paid vacation go to waste.

I have two job apps to fill out online and I keep B.S.n' around-I guess it's because I'm tired from all that hard work with the snow and all that other (nonsense)!

I was having tea & biscuits for an afternoon snack and Harriet snatched one of the biscuits. Rather than taking it away from her immediately I took pictures instead. When I put the camera down she bolted out of the office with the biscuit in her mouth.

Harriet loves, loves, LOVES human junk food. I don't like letting her have much of it because highly processed sweet & salty snacks aren't good for cats, and she also suffers from obstipation and I try to keep her diet as low carb as possible. Unfortunately, she would rather eat donuts, potato chips and Corn Pops than turkey or chicken from my lunch.
