Cascade Canyon Barn, Grand Teton National Park aka Cascade Canyon Patrol Cabin Part of men in black shades Moose, Teton County, Wyoming Listed: 08/25/1998 Like the cabins at Upper Granite Canyon, Death Canyon, and Moran Bay, the Cascade Canyon Barn/Patrol Cabin is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places under criteria A and C, for its association with Grand Teton National Park Administration and Development and its association with NPS Rustic architecture. The barn's period of significance extends from construction in 1935 until the end of the historical period as defined by the National Register (1948), or until the cabin is no longer an important component of the park's backcotmtry administrative system. The interior contributes to the building's significance. In 1935, CCC crews from either Hot Springs camp #N.P. 3 or Jenny Lake Camp #N.P. 4 (working out of the Phelps Lake Spike Camp) constructed a barn and patrol cabin at Cascade Canyon. According to longtime GRTE employee Doug McClaren, the Cascade Canyon cabin was destroyed by an avalanche ca. 1960 and the barn was converted to a toolcache/ habitation facility. Exterior modifications associated with this conversion appear to be limited to the replacement of wide barn doors with a pedestrian door/side lights/vertical plank infill. The Death Canyon and Cascade Canyon barns/cabins were constructed from the same building plan, by different CCC crews. Although the buildings are remarkably similar, minor differences suggest that builders modified standard plans in accordance with their lumber supply or their personal taste: the gable end battens are mounted on the interior at Death Cabin and on the exterior at Cascade Canyon; windows are trimmed at Death Canyon, and untrimmed at Cascade Canyon; window shutters are constructed of 6" boards at Death Canyon, and random-width (10"-12") boards at Cascade Canyon); fenestration patterns vary. Auriol Batten Last night saw the opening of a special exhibition featuring the works of Auriol Ursula Batten. Auriol is one of South Africa's best botanical artists and has been awarded with many honours world-wide. A special committee was been set up consisting of representatives from the East London Wildflower Society, the Advisory Board of the Ann Bryant, the Friends of Ann Bryant, the Fine Art Society, the East London Museum and some family members of Auriol Batten. The exhibition payed tribute to her for her long and outstanding achievements as a botanical artist, and to her many books, publications as well as aspects of her involvement at the East London Museum, and a great deal more in which she has participated over the years. Auriol is Chloe and Ella's great -grandmother and my mother-in-law. She has just turned 93. The intention is to pay tribute to Auriol Batten for her long and outstanding achievements as a botanical artist, and to her many books, publications as well as aspects of her involvement at the East London Museum, and a great deal more in which she has participated over the years. A special exhibition and function will take place in the Ann Bryant Art Gallery’s main gallery on Tuesday 12 April 2011 at 18:00. 8772 July 22, 2011 Day 203 A very awesome person traded me pictures in return for this new (and extremely old) camera. It’s a 3A AUTOGRAPHIC KODAK and apart from getting it open, I have no clue what to do with it. I know it takes A-122 size film and that it’s from 1914, but that’s pretty much it. I like the way it looks. And that some random from 1914 used to own it and take pictures of the old people at nursing homes with it. Thank heavens for antique labels inside antique camera cases. Inside of an Accordion We're looking at the part of the accordion that is on the left side of the accordionist. The bellows and keyboard are detached and not shown. This is a twelve-button accordion with a bass set of reeds (large holes and large reeds) plus a set of major cords (triplet holes and smaller reed assembly). See notes on the picture. This is the workshop of Vince Aleandri. It's the kind of workshop you see on TV when cameras go into a specialist's home and you find...nirvana. G9 Driving Vignettes This (hopefully) is the first of a series of driving vignettes that I would like to do. I’ve been doing something similar to this with my Canon 50D, but I decided to make a video with my Canon G9. During this video, the G9 was attached to a tabletop tripod that was placed on the dashboard (wedged between the glass and the dashboard so it would not move), directly in front of my line of sight of the road—not something a cop would be too pleased to see. Along with the G9, I had my 50D attached to my tripod in the front passenger side with a remote shutter release so I could get some long-exposure light trails (I am compiling a big collection of these images for a reason). Between video and photography, I feel more enthusiastic towards photography, but attempting video every now and then can be fun too. Being more of a photo person myself I was surprised when my friend and I took home the award for best video in our university’s art show—that I cannot post to Flickr, as it was 15 minutes long. This video starts by driving down a small town's main street, passing by a large refinery (look for the fire), up and over a bridge, and then proceeding down IL Rt. 53. (watch for the famous arches) All the while you get to keep track of my speed through the nifty display that I have in my car. Vito B Stuck Shutter Release Closeup Here's a closeup of the problem. I've added notes but basically the cams on the grey spiggot wheel are not hitting the small tab on the shutter release reset lever. I've found this happens sometimes when re-winding the film. The cams knock the lever too far back and the sticky 50 year old lubricant under the lever sticks to a small brass bearing underneath. Kerkouane's Museum - The Lady of Kerkouane (V) Sculpture in cypress wood, dated to between start of 3rd C and middle of the 4th C BC. Was discovered in a vault of the Arg-el-Ghazoauni Necropolis. It's an unique example of Phoenician-Punic archeology. For decorating the cover of a coffin, the sculptor has reproduced, in high relief, the image of a female deity, who is without doubt, Ashtat, protector of the dead. She is dressed in a tunic with a high neckline and a loose-fitting coat or veil which, starting from the shoulders, covers all of her back, in an elegant sweep. It is draped around the hip to descend and delicately envelope the remainder of the body. The fabric of the tunic allows one to discern, underneath the clothes, of the shape of her breasts. The veil also adopts the shape of her figure and underlines the delicacy of the pleats. It clings to her legs using the wet technique and contributes to an underlining of the shapeliness and reinforces the feminine charm. The veil seems to cover all the body with the exception of her head and her relatively high cut neckline. Only the left arm is visible, sculptured separately, it had to be brought back and is attached to the statue with the help of a metal fixing. The hand, on which the fingers are very finely sculpted, seems to have been placed in a manner that returns to the chest. As it is presented today, the sarcophagus doesn't allow one to be precise about the state of the feet so prevents us from knowing whether it was an upright statue (gisant) or if the Lady of Kerkouane was lying down. The head is much better preserved. The Lady has a hairband fitted with a wave round the middle. But we do not know if it is connected in a bun (chignon) behind, on the nape of the neck. On the other hand, we must say that the hairstyle (coiffure) of the Lady of Kerkouane may include a cylindrical tiara. (Thanks to Jon Swan, Folkert Van Galen and Peter Martin for translation of French description) Robe ŕ la Française Silk gown from France, 1775-1785. The back of this formal sacque gown is made of three full widths of silk stitched together and draped into pleats. The vertical stripes embroidered with delicate floral patterns is typical of the last years of the Ancien Regime. The awards paid tribute to the members of the community who have made a significant difference to the lives of their neighbours or the local community. Over 50 nominations were received from members of the community throughout the summer to honour the kindness of their neighbours. The event was held at the Huyton Suite on Monday 30th November, with the awards being presented by Cllr Dave Smithson, Mayor of Knowsley. The winners of the six area based awards were: •Richard RobertsNorth Kirkby •Doreen Hope South Kirkby •Carol WoolertonNorth Huyton •Lil ConwaySouth Huyton •Ron SinclairHalewood •Marion AhearnePrescot, Whiston, Cronton & Knowsley Village Doreen Hope, of Westvale, Kirkby, was given a special Outstanding Achievement award by the judges. In addition, six residents were nominated for a Community Health Champion Recognition award, with Jimmy Jordan of Prescot being named as the winner. The awards have been set up by the Knowsley Partnership and the Knowsley Challenge to demonstrate the depth of goodwill and community spirit that exists in Knowsley. Cllr Ron Round, Leader of Knowsley Council and Chair of the Knowsley Partnership, said “The awards were a chance to say thank you to the fantastic people who make our communities a better place to live. “There are many great people who live in Knowsley, but I felt especially honoured to have spent an evening with such inspirational people. “They are a credit to themselves, their families, their communities, and to Knowsley. “Our communities, and even our world, would be a much better place with more people like them. “Everyone who has been nominated should be proud of themselves, but I would like to draw special attention to Doreen Hope, who was given the Outstanding Contribution award. “Since 1971, Doreen has helped her neighbour Maureen Essien to feel at home in a community after she moved to Knowsley from Trinidad. “Her support has made Maureen and her family feel at home in the borough, and she has made a friend for life.” Doreen Hope, winner of the Outstanding Achievement award, said: “I never thought I would get this sort of recognition for what I did. “I enjoyed being there for my neighbour and I didn’t do it to get anything back. “Having said that, getting this award is great and the way we have been treated is lovely.” Maureen Essien, who nominated Doreen Hope, said: “Doreen helped me and my four children settle into the area. “She stood up for me and my family, and through her friendship she has restored my belief in other people. “She has always been there to offer support and guidance whenever me or my family have needed help. “Whenever I think of Doreen I think that God must have given me a sister to carry me through my troubles in a new life and a new country.” The event also saw the launch of the Knowsley Partnership’s community cohesion strategy. The strategy outlines how partners in the borough will work together to improve the relationships between people from different backgrounds. As part of the strategy, the Knowsley Partnership will be working with both residents and partners, including the local landlords such as Villages Housing and Knowsley Housing Trust. They will also be working with local schools to launch a community cohesion toolkit in early 2010, and a cluster programme in North Huyton to encourage nine local schools to work together. ENDS The awards were judged by a panel made up of local councillors from Knowsley Council and representatives from NHS Knowsley, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, Knowsley College, and Knowsley Council for Voluntary Service. When I wa MISSION HOSPITAL QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN (PAKISTAN) 1910 Mission Hospital Quetta was one of the 1st hospitals to be established at Quetta in 1886IT WAS .RUN BY Church Mission Society (CMS). One of its very 1st incharge was dr Henry Holland , who later was to be always assocated with it, not only just because of spending most of his life serving there but due to being instrumental in its expansion and great success. During the 1935 Quetta earthquake he was the chief medical officer of Baluchistan. Dr. HENRY HOLLAND had offered his services to the Church Missionary Society shortly after graduation and, in March 1900, still with four months left of his contract as Traveling Secretary, he was called to Quetta, on the remote North-West Frontier of India, to take the place of the doctor shortly going on leave. He had three weeks to prepare for his journey to a place he had never heard of. Traveling by cramped third class overland to Marseilles, he continued on by sea in an airless lower berth, such as was allotted to second class passengers at the turn of the century. A typhoid inoculation beyond Port Said made him severely ill, and he suffered a virulent attack of the fever seven months after reaching Quetta. From Karachi, he completed the last 400 miles by train, climbing from the dust-thickened air over the Sind desert and plains, through the desolate Baluchistan hills to the upland plateau where Quetta stands, ringed by towering peaks, 5,500 feet above sea level. As he left the plains he began to see large, fierce-looking tribesmen who seemed a piece with the harsh surroundings. His first sight of the city-oasis that was to be his home was memorable—arriving on the 6th of May, the weary traveler delighted in the greenness and profusion of blooming roses. The medical mission at Quetta, established 14 years earlier, was one of a chain of four along the North-West Frontier originally encouraged by British army and political officers to help keep peace among the tribesmen as well as treat their physical ills. To the first outpatient building constructed in 1889, had been added four wards with 28 beds for inpatients, one operating room and a dark room for ophthalmoscopic work. It was a small but brave assertion of Christian care and compassion in the heart of a hostile land, for killing an infidel as a way to attain Paradise was common practice among fanatical Muslims in those early days. The Frontier it served was a bleak and isolated land of rugged mountains and great stretches of arid, rocky plains. Apart from the railway to Quetta, there were few roads and only rough trails across the wastelands and through the passes. Excepting the British garrison and government officers at Quetta and the few other stations, the inhabitants were mostly scattered tribespeople who changed their dwellings with the season. Separated by deserts and mountain ranges, the various tribes seldom mixed together. Education in a formal sense was unknown, and there was little desire for schooling among those living in or near the Frontier stations to whom it was available. Dr. HOLLAND found the hospital in full swing; spring and autumn were the busiest, when caravans could move without hindrance of snow and freezing temperatures or the intolerable summer heat. Among the patients were small-statured Brahui, of supposed Dravidian stock, who came in droves after their winter sojourn to the plains south of Sibi on their way back to the uplands. Tall, hardy Pathans, the Afghan tribes living on the then British side of the border, came down from the mountains to the north. A Pushtu-speaking Semitic people, they claimed descent from the 10 lost tribes of Israel. Baluchi arrived as the weather warmed, from the southern foothills and plains running east from Sibi to the Punjabi frontier. Also a Semitic people and often of fine physique, their language was a form of Persian. Journeying up from the plains were Sindhis and Punjabis. The doctor was not put off by the Muslim fanaticism, blood feuding and raiding that characterized a part of the tribesmen's way of life. Seeing their strength in adversity and the obvious need for medical attention, he quickly took up the challenge of adjusting to life in entirely strange surroundings. Work for the young medical graduate began at once. Dysentery and malaria were common ills. Surgical needs were great though limited facilities permitted treatment mostly of hemorrhoids, tubercular glands and cataracts. As he had not had hospital experience, he spent several hours each day working with the doctor he was soon to replace, learning surgical technique. Otherwise learning by doing, he was soon administering treatment for all manner of ailments. Later, he was able to widen his knowledge through visits to hospitals in Kashmir, the Punjab and Sind. By adhering to a rigorous daily regimen of work and study, he passed examinations in Urdu, Persian and Pushtu and mastered the rudiments of Brahui, Baluchi, Punjabi and Sindhi. Richmond Hill Republican Club Richmond Hill, Queens, New York City, New York, United States An integral part of downtown Richmond Hill, the Richmond Hill Republican Club served as an important political club and a cornerstone of the Richmond Hill neighborhood where parades, public lectures, picnics, dances, and dinners were held. Built in 1908 to the designs of Henry E. Haugaard, a prolific local architect and builder, the building was constructed of Roman brick and wood in the Colonial Revival style. Original stylistic features of the building include an elaborate entryway with classical pediment, a denticulated and bracketed cornice, and a roof-line balustrade. The building was constructed as a political club and post office. However during World War I, it took on a larger community function when it became a social gathering place for local citizens and an entertainment center and retreat for the armed forces. As late as 1980, a presidential candidate delivered a campaign speech there. Vacant since the mid 1980s, the Richmond Hill Republican Club is an intact example of a clubhouse designed to serve the social, political and recreational needs of a local community and an excellent prototype of small-scale Colonial Revival style civic architecture. DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS History of Richmond Hill Richmond Hill is a neighborhood located in east central Queens, adjacent to Jamaica and bounded to the north by Myrtle and Hillside streets, to the east by the Van Wyck Expressway, to the south by Linden Boulevard, and to the west by 100lh Street. Originally farmland, the area was developed by Albon Piatt Man, a wealthy lawyer in New York City; Oliver Fowler, a local developer; and landscape architect Edward Richmond. Designed as a middle class suburb, it was laid out in the vicinity of the new Long Island Railroad line. Between 1868 and 1874, streets, a school, and a church were built; and 250 acres farmland were laid out into lots for private residents. Initial residents were mostly businessmen from Manhattan who erected large houses costing between 52,500 to $5,000. Some 400 shade and ornamental trees were planted, and the Richmond Hill passenger depot serviced the growing community. By 1895, the settlement was incorporated with Morris Park and Clarenceville as the Village of Richmond Hill and then in 1898, Richmond Hill became part of the consolidated Greater New York City. The Arcaneum Hall Library was established in 1899 and in 1905, the Richmond Hill Library, one of the Carnegie libraries, was built on Lefferts Boulevard. By 1900 Richmond Hill consisted of smaller cottages as well as larger, luxurious houses costing upwards of S8,000. Many of these residences as well as commercial and institutional buildings were designed by the Haugaard brothers (William Haugarrd, Henry E. Haugarrd, and John T. Haugaard) who practiced architecture in Richmond Hill. By 1920, the population of Richmond Hill continued to grow and commercial activity flourished. With no more open land to develop, some of Richmond Hill's nineteenth century private houses were replaced by twentieth century apartment houses, and a population of mostly German and Irish descent gave way to an influx of Latin Americans. Still, Richmond Hill remains a low-rise neighborhood of two-family houses and apartment buildings. The Architect: Henry E. Haugaard Born in 1867 in Brooklyn, Henry E. Haugaard was one of three brothers of Danish descent who made their mark as architects and builders in Richmond Hill. He opened his office in 1888 at Jamaica Plank Road and Lefferts Boulevard in the heart of Richmond Hill and by 1905 had made plans for over 1,000 houses. A 1905 article in the Industrial Recorder details Haugaard's architectural practice: The residences of Mr. Louis Schroeder, at Myrtle avenue and Elm street, and Mr. Peter Zimmerman, on Division avenue, are examples of Mr. Haugaard's work, and he gives a careful attention to detail, which commands a wide appreciation. There is an especially active demand here for residences costing from $5,000 to $7,500, and Mr. Haugaard has succeeded in meeting this demand in a most satisfactory manner. He has been recently elected as supervising architect for the new Royal Arcanium building to be erected corner of Jamaica avenue and Elm street. Initially, Henry Haugaard worked closely with his two brothers, William C. Haugaard and John T. Haugaard. In addition to his architectural practice, Henry Haugaard also owned a planing mill and employed from fifteen to thirty-five men depending upon the number of projects ongoing. Little is known about the work or life of Henry Haugaard after 1917. A scandalous event in that year appears to have been a turning point in his career. On January 27lh, Henry E. Haugaard and his brother William were shot while working in their office in the Hillside Bank Building in Richmond Hill by Herbert M. Newcomb, a local builder. Mr. Newcomb, who was intoxicated at the time, accused Henry Haugaard of ruin Roman In May Riding my bike around North Hollywood just west of Lankershim, I saw him. He was standing reading in the shade of a big tree behind his shopping cart of belongings. When I came closer, I realized I'd photographed him before - last time was when he was sitting at a bus bench. I didn't know he was homeless then. He was reading a book about Catherine The Great. I greeted him and he was happy to be greeted, and we started talking. Seeing the Catherine book, I joked about her notorious love of horses. "Yes," he said smiling, revealing many missing teeth, "and men." With a gentle German accent, he told me he was born in Hamburg. Came here about 40 years ago. Doesn't like his life that much. "I get depressed," he said, "When you're homeless, you don't really make any friends." So many people assume homeless folks are on drugs or drunk all the time. Here he is reading history. And frustrated by it. "This is my second book about Catherine The Great I've read," he said. "And there's nothing new. It's all the same as the first." We got into a long talk about history - about how so much of it is false, but that in histories of some recent American heroes, such as Lincoln, occasionally a new perspective arises. We spoke for a long time about Columbus - maybe the best example of an American hero who in truth was anything but heroic. Yet still gets his own holiday. There is no Lincoln day, but Columbus still rates his own. He told me life on the street is not easy. Pushing around this cart of stuff slows him down. And he's been ticketed many times for a stolen shopping cart. Has a friend who gets two checks a month - social security and pension- equaling $1200. And rather than get a cheap room downtown all the time with that, he gets a motel room nearby at 75 bucks a night for one week out of the month, and the other weeks he panhandles. Roman - who was born in Germany of Polish and Ukranian descent- marveled at an America where a man gets two checks a month yet still chooses to panhandle. We spoke for a while. I could tell he needed someone just to hang with, just to talk. He had some bottles of beer in his cart under blankets that I saw, and several over-ripe bananas. People are upset with homeless folks for drinking. I'm not. Whatever gets you through the night. And long days. He took a college course a few months back at Valley College to learn Spanish, and got a B. Cleaning up - no showers, but washing in public restrooms - takes time, and then "I have to make money, you know," so he collects recyclable cans and bottles. "I should be making money now," he said. "But I decided to take one hour to read, and already I've been reading for three hours." Grommet Grommet is a cute little female that we TNR'd almost two years ago as part of our Greasy Paws project. We trapped her while we were trying to get some newcomers at that location. We were about to let her go when we noticed a nasty respiratory infection. So we kept her long enough for a course of antibiotics. She was great about eating every bite of her drug-spiked food and she recovered beautifully. We released her with the others. Silk This was from a photoshoot I did for the Goodman Theater. It was the poster for their production of Silk, but unfortunately it was later replaced because I looked too asian.... Vilma Vilma lays in bed and looks at the clock that stopped some years ago. 5:42. She cannot recall if it stopped in the morning or the evening. It has been the same time for two years. She swears that today she will remember to take the clock to the repairman Daniel Bau. The shades are drawn, but sunlight brilliantly glows around the corners of the windows. Vilma hears some of her guests rummaging around in the kitchen. She dresses, ties her favorite scarf about her neck, and emerges from the bedroom. She sees two Dutchmen standing on the kitchen table. One is trying to capture a rat trapped in the chandelier. The other is cautiously holding the frame of the first man. Another guest, Hermann, exits the bathroom, sees the Dutchmen and bellows, “Get your filthy feet off the table! I am about to take my toast.” Vilma slips into the bathroom. Being on the western side of the building, the light in the bathroom is a cool blue. It feels more like dusk than dawn she thinks. The window is cracked open ten centimeters, as it always is. Somehow this small gray room remains chilly, even in summer. Two cats are fighting in the courtyard below. In the bathroom upstairs, Charles is tending to a sick fern, making tsk tsk noises with his tongue. Assam in the Maze Assam waited with his back against the door, giving his eyes time to adjust. After so long walking through the dim passages, the light inside was almost blinding. It did not help that most everything in the room was painted an eye-twisting riot of pink. It made him think of the mint-flavored chalky medicine his father would bring him, of nausea and unsettled nights with a sick stomach. There was a chandelier hanging from the ceiling, the bare bulbs shaded with cones of red and pink tissue paper. A few of these makeshift shades had slipped askew and were slowly turning brown against the bulbs. Long strands of beads hung from each branch of the light at different lengths, giving it an unstable, cockeyed look — like more or less everything else in the room. (From "Assam & Darjeeling" by T.M. Ross School Building by Jaroff Designs Founded by Courtney Ross, widow of AOL Chairman Steve Ross, the Ross School set out from the beginning to be a visionary and inspirational approach to education. Joseph Jaroff worked closely with Ms. Ross to understand the philosophy of the school, which he then wove into the concept of an interactive, porous and high-tech arts facility. This project extended past our traditional role providing custom glass and architectural metal fabrication, to include everything from the overall architectural plan for the building to the detailed, custom furniture designed to integrate new technologies into every desk. Forming the core of the arts building is a two-story spiral learning center and editing suites constructed out of wood, patinated steel and laminated glass panels and partitions. Surrounding the central video editing facility, Jaroff Design’s custom movable chairs and desks allow students to watch the professionals at work through sound-proof glass laminated with a light fabric to give the right balance of visibility and privacy. The spiral itself was designed to be both sculptural and functional. The acrylic sunshades fanned across the top limit glare, hide the integrated lighting system, and give a sense of energy and upward motion to the space. The corten steel structure supports workstations and interactive displays, but also hides internet jacks, plug-ins for live feed monitors and power sockets in its hollow columns. SunShade SunShade, prototype. Lianne van Genugten (Dutch, b. 1984), Lianne van Genugten Product Design. The Netherlands, 2009–10. Aluminum, polypropylene, flexible solar cells, nylon, LED light, acrylate. Courtesy of designer Increasingly, designers are finding ways to use solar cells in all areas of everyday life. The SunShade, created by Dutch designer Lianne van Genugten, is a giant outdoor floor lamp that provides shade during the day and light at night. With solar cells acting as sensors, the umbrella opens and closes automatically, performing like a real flower in relation to the shifting sun. During the day, the SunShade opens and extends like a parasol, collecting energy from the sun through flexible solar cells embedded in the canopy. As the sun goes down, the parasol contracts, transforming into a lamp shade that glows at night. The parasol is made of polypropylene, a durable plastic polymer that holds up to the repetitive stress of being opened and shut. 188 Waverly Way One of the homes on the home tour. Leigh & Justin Wilde This unique, modified Craftsman bungalow with a Victorian flare was built in 1906. As the neighborhood changed, the house was subdivided into three apartments from the 1930s through the 1960s. It was occupied by more than 75 residents. Among them were a bricklayer, trolley operator, masseur, banker and attorney. The Wilde’s son, Gavin, is the first known baby to reside at the address. Renovations were undertaken in the 1970s, including enclosure of an upstairs sleeping porch. During this period, the Coca-Cola Company used the front porch in an advertisement, as seen framed in the kitchen, and the upstairs bathroom sported a hot tub and skylight. As you step into updated Southern living, note the original heart pine floors, plantation shutters, wrap around porch, entry foyer and parlor. Savor the view from the master suite which has an indoor-outdoor fireplace leading to a screened-in porch. Other intriguing items include the ceiling tile in the downstairs sitting room and the artwork in the stairwell, purchased from Inman Park Festival vendors. There is stained glass salvaged from a Jewish temple in the guest bathroom and upstairs sitting room. Leigh and Justin purchased the house in 2004 after remodeling their previous bungalow in Candler Park. To mark their Inman Park home’s 100-year anniversary, they landscaped the front and back yard, reclaimed an upstairs bedroom, added the master suite-designed to accentuate the downtown views-and remodeled the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. The couple gives special thanks to their beloved friends at Northcutt Carpentry, Superior Scapes, and Serenity Landscape Designs. Project 365, Day 236 Bigelow Tea Company, is an American tea company founded by Ruth C. Bigelow in the late 1940s. Bigelow is still a 100% family-owned business that markets over 50 varieties of tea, including black, green and herbal teas, all of which are still blended in Fairfield, Connecticut. They also own America's only tea plantation, in Charleston, South Carolina.
