PTIČJA GRIPA U ŠPANJOLSKOJ I DANSKOJ
Na sjeveru Baskije pronađen je prvi slučaj ptičje gripe u Španjolskoj. Virus H5N1 pronađen je kod divljih ptica. Nekoliko je slučajeva virusa ptičje gripe ranije pronađeno, no nisu bili tipa H5N1 već manje smrtonosni pa nisu ni išli u javnost sa time. Španjolska je 20. zemlja u Europi koja je prijavila slučajeve ptičje gripe.
Također, i Danskaje prijavila slučaj zaraze virusom H5 kod divljih patki blizu Viborga na sjeveru zemlje. Nekoliko je tisuća ptica ubijeno kao mjera opreza. Danska je potvrdila prvi slučaj ptičje gripe kod domaće peradi 18. svibnja.
