Unconfirmed Reports of Tornado

Strong storms caused some damage Wednesday night in parts of southern Ohio.

10TV talked to one man down in Highland County who got a pretty big scare, courtesy of Mother Nature.

Highland County residents were still assessing the damage late Wednesday night after severe storms struck without warning. Southwesterly winds ripped limbs off of trees and even tore the roof off of an unoccupied home just west of Hillsboro.

The force scattered tin and shingles across a radius of several hundred yards. Winds also completely buckled a garage door inside the structure.

Siding and gutters were torn from the building as well. Telephone, cable and power lines were brought down.

For one group of men working in the rural area, the storm hit entirely too close to home.

"We ran into the garage and were looking out of the garage, and we've got a big cabin cruiser. It started sliding it sideways, Ray Ison started to explain. It ripped the top off of it, slid it sideways in the yard, and then it turned straight and it pushed it all the way up against the fence over there."

The movement of the boat left ruts behind in the grass. Deep swaths were visible, cutting through the yard. Theyre a possible testament to really how powerful the storms was.

Ison believed it was the force of a tornado that struck. But he said he wasnt expecting severe weather to strike.

"I had no idea because there were no warnings or nothing out, said Ison.

Highland County sheriff's deputies said there were some isolated power outages around the county, but no major damage has been reported.

There also was an unconfirmed report of a tornado striking in Highland County, according to deputies. But that cannot be confirmed until the National Weather Service investigates.
