Mr Maken said the Congress government had increased the ghats to 74 from 13.Mr Maken said Delhi was the cultural capital of the county, as people from various states, castes, communities and religions live here, and the trend set by Delhi is followed by the rest of the country.Mr Mishra said the popularity of the festival in the city was evident from the fact that there were as many as 500 ghats for the festival, but there was no proper arrangement from the part of the government for the smooth conduct of the Chhat Puja.Addressing a joint press conference with former MP and Poorvanchal leader Mahabal Mishra and party’s chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee, he said the Kejriwal government had neither written to the Haryana government for release of water Rubber Kerb Ramps for sale in the Yamuna for Chhat Puja nor had the BJP-led Haryana government taken any initiative to release the water for the festival.Mr Mishra, after visiting various Chhat Puja ghats, said the sanitation condition at the ghats was in a mess, as piles of garbage could be seen everywhere. After visiting the Chhat Puja ghats with Mr Mishra and Ms Mukherjee, Mr Maken said had the city government desired, Haryana would have released fresh water into the river, but unfortunately chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was too proud to make such a request, as he was adept only in making charges and counter-charges. He said the government had failed to ensure clean water in the Yamuna, the most important element in Chhat Puja, and was playing politics by providing financial help for Chhat Puja in a "pick and choose" manner."

He said it was very unfortunate that though Chhat Puja is to begin on Tuesday, the Yamuna was dirty and polluted, and Poorvanchal devotees would be forced to hold their prayers in polluted water.Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken has criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government for making poor arrangements for the Chhat Puja, which will be observed by lakhs of Poorvanchalis in Delhi beginning Tuesday.Mr Maken said the Congress government also extended financial help for Chhat Puja without showing any favouritism, and also provided other facilities like power and clean drinking water round-the-clock. He said the Congress party strongly condemns the AAP government’s lack of pareparedness for the Chhat Puja, as it was treating the people of Poorvanchal in a step-motherly manner. He said it was indeed very shocking that the devotees would have to conduct Chhat Puja in the dirty waters of Yamuna this time around.. He said Chhat Puja was a symbol of socialism as people come out of their homes together to hold the pujas, rising above caste and religion.Mr Maken said, "When the Congress government was in power in Delhi, it used to ensure that the Yamuna had clean water for Chhat Puja by writing to the Haryana government to release fresh water into the river a week before the festival. As a result, he observed, the Yamuna was like a stinking drain with mounds of rubbish piled along its banks. He said the AAP government was playing politics in providing facilities for the Chhat Puja by favouring only its party supporters leaders
