Looking for hotel on Gulf in Galveston - Cruise Critic Message Boards I just found out from my Roll Call that the weekend I'll be in Galveston to sail on the Conquest, Dec 2, is the weekend of "Dickens on the Strand".
I have been searching and on Galveston.com.
We are on a tight budget, I don't want to spend a lot of money on a hotel the night before the cruise.
I can't find a hotel that has both free cruise parking AND free shuttle in my price range.
I might as well plan on parking in the EZ Parking Lot.Any suggestions on a hotel?
I want to be near the dock.
My DH would love a room on gulf coast educators federal credit union main road on the Gulf.I thought I had a lot of time to research.
But now I really need to find something by this weekend.
You might try priceline and name your own price.
You might get lucky with a 3 star for about $80.
Otherwise you might have to go over to the mainland and look at something in Texas City or Kemah.

The hotel prices seem to go up and down with the seasons and events.

It's right across the street from the Seawall.
It's older hotel, but clean.
All of the rooms face the water.
They offered free cruise parking and a continental breakfast.

I believe it only cost about $12.00 to the port.Galveston is a small island.
We could see the ships from our 3rd floor hotel room.I've also seen the LaQuinta recommended, but never stayed there.

I'm glad to find someone who has stayed there.
I guess it's not far from the port?
At $12.00 each way taxi, that would be cheaper than EZ Parking.Any other ideas from anyone, I would appreciate.

I vote NO on the Commodore.
Look for else.
Try the LaQuinta on Seawall Blvd.
Or the Best Western on Seawall Blvd.
If you can't find anything then stay just to gulf coast educators federal credit union North of the maybe in League City...that's only a 30 min.

My 1st choice while in Galveston on a budget is to go to choicehotels.com and stay at Quality Inn and Suites.
Have stayed and extremely clean, free breakfast, free parking and approx.
12.00 taxi all rooms have balconies.
There is a place on there to change your catagory like if you are AAA or over 50, etc.
Which changes the price.
I have a code which knocks about gulf coast educators federal credit union off the price if you are interested.
I will stay there in <2 weeks and my rooms are 79.99 each night....again, really, really like the place and if you go to tripasvisor you will read that the above mentioned hotel does NOT get good reviews, although you can't go by that 100% either.
But Quality Inn and Suites almost 100% of the reviews I have read have been good.

After reading the reviews on TA I must agree with CGBCruiser.
It sounds like Commodore on the Beach has gone way downhill in the last few years.
They must have new ownership .We wouldn't stay there again based on the reviews.

We stayed at the Victorian a few years back.
They have both parking and a shuttle service included - or at least did then.
The Victorian is right on Seawall.I am not sure Priceline would be your best bet.

The Victorian Condotel is still down on the West end of Seawall Blvd.
Actually, they've turned part of it into Hawthorne Suites.
I don't know what kind of shape the rest of it is now days but you could try.

After hours of researching many travel web sites most of the hotels in Galveston for the first Saturday in Dec were either booked or gulf coast educators federal credit union over $100.00.
I really looked in the Quality Inn, since I am a Choicehotel member.
The best price I found it was $116.95.
We went ahead and booked the Commodore on the Beach @ $75.00.
If we get a bad room, well okay, it's only one night.
We have "slummed" in worst "dives" for one night.
I figure I won't sleep the night before we ship off anyway.
I just keep thinking how many more foo foo drinks I can have on board with the money we saved.Thanks everyone for the input!

Someone there posted the Hilton on Expedia for $80.00!
It includes free shuttle to the pier, that will save me $24.00 on taxi round trip!
I counting all the extra foo foo drinks I can now afford.
I quickly cancelled my reservations with Commodore on the Beach and booked Hilton.
I think you'll be Happy with the Hilton.
It actually shares the same parking lot with Landry's and there is an I-Hop next door as well.
After you said it was Dickens on the Strand weekend, I looked on Expedia and was very surprised to see those rates.
It's a much nicer hotel than the Commodore.

My standards are pretty low but this seems like a good bet for anyone on the cheap.
Our office does a retreat every year and this last one was in Galveston.
Even though the gulf coast educators federal credit union was at the San Luis, the night prior to the retreat we stayed in the Hilton and I have to say I was much more impressed with the rooms and beds at the Hilton.Enjoy you stay!Marg gulf coast educators federal credit union
Homeschool - I am glad you got the Hilton, that should be a no worry zone and ditto on the extra foo foo drinks.Stella - I have not actually stayed there, just read the reviews on tripadvisor...but all in all, if that was all I could find for a half-way descent price compared to the 120.00 a gulf coast educators federal credit union rooms, I would still stay there.
You can't always go by the reviews and some of them were good.

Stella & Homeschool: I gulf coast educators federal credit union in both of your dates with 2 people per room and got below $80.00 on each, significantly, like 54.00-72.00....When you put in your dates it will ask you "Select rate program" and if you quality for other discounts you can check but if not go all the way down on the selections to "best internet rate".
When you bump this down to this rate I think you might see a cheaper price.
I am curious how many are in your group, how many adults/kids....always looking to get my room cheaper if I can help please let me know...Kelly
