Obama uses NBA stars to hoop for campaign bucks at revived Obama Classic
It’s no secret that Barack Obama was a fairly good basketball player in high school (to which Republicans demand: show us your box scores!). And like most of us, he loves to relive the glory days with a good pickup game — although unlike most of us, the guys he gets tend to have NBA pedigrees.
For a $3 donation, you can get in on the Obama Classic, a shameless fundraising grab fun pickup game featuring lots of NBA stars. From an Obama Campaign email, via CBS DC:
Imagine shooting hoops with Carmelo Anthony, Patrick Ewing, Sheryl Swoopes, Kyrie Irving, and Alonzo Mourning. Oh, and President Obama and Michael Jordan will be there, too.
For a $3 donation, a supporter will enter the chance to win the $3,200 grand prize that includes round-trip coach-class tickets, a one-night stay at a hotel and tickets for the game.
No date and location has yet been set. If you win, it will likely be the only pickup basketball game you’ll play in which includes Secret Service and a red phone in a locked briefcase.
As Sports Grid points out, the Obama Classic web page has a note signed by Vince Carter, Chris Paul and Baron Davis, so we’re assuming they’re involved as well.
The Obama Classic was supposed to be played in 2011, but the NBA failed to cooperate by settling their strike/lockoput.
