2011-05-20 0546 Cars - Mecum Auto Auction 1955 Chevrolet 210 2 Door Hot Rod Photos of some of the cars, trucks and other items up for bid at the 2011 Dana Mecum's Original Spring Classic Auction, held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, Indianapolis Indiana. There were over 2000 cars and trucks, not to mention a decent array of motorcycles as well. This year, there also seemed to have a larger variety of petroliana, memorabilia, advertising and signs if the exotic cars were not enough. Hot rods, custom cars, display cars, racing cars and even a test car or two, all of them were up for bid at the six day auction. These are outdoor photos from my second day there. Mod Floral Interior, '69 Barracuda Coupe Chrysler in the late 60's and early 70's had the wildest colors, the coolest car names, the most kickass graphics, and the only mod floral vinyl tops in the industry. I'd totally forgotten that the inserts in the seats matched the tops. I remember them being brighter than this, and keyed to the colors of the cars, but I guess that's just nostalgia talking. In any case, it was a crazy, revolutionary, "up the establishment" time, and we could use some of that thinking now. A minivan or a hybrid in orange, plum crazy or lime green? Why not?
