Parachute Jump Coney Island, Brooklyn Inspired by the growing popularity of civilian parachuting and towers constructed to teach the military correct technique. Commander James H. Strong's Parachute Jump was erected for the 1939-40 New York's World's Fair in Flushing Meadow. As detailed by Elwyn E. Seelye & Company, the 170-ton tower stands 262 feet tall, a height exceeded at the fair only by that of the famous Trylon. It was considered to be an engineering feat. The mechanisms within the tapered steel structure permitted fair visitors to ride to the top and safely descend, two-by-two, perched on a seat beneath a parachute. The exhilarating ride provided the couple with an unsurpassed view of the fairgrounds. After the closing of the fair, the Parachute Jump was purchased by the Tilyou. brothers and moved to their Steeplechase Park, Coney Island's most famous and longest enduring amusement park. Steeplechase had bean founded by their father, George C. Tilyou (1862-1914), whose enterprises at the turn of the century helped to revive Coney as a wholesome family resort. Steeplechase was closed in 1964; however, the Parachute Jump continued to function until 1968. Still a prominent feature of the Brooklyn skyline, today the tower stands unused, but in fundamentally sound structural condition. The History of Coney Island Coney Island has played a part in the history of New York since the first days of European exploration, when Henry Hudson docked his ship, the Half Moon, off its coast in 1609. Lady Deborah Moody and forty followers settled Gravesend, the area north of Coney Island, in 1643; she bought the island itself from the Canarsie Indians in 1654. Not until 1824 did the Gravesend and Coney Island Road and Bridge Company build a shell road from the thriving center of Gravesend to what is now West 8th Street on the island. Along with the commencement of steamer ship service from New York in 1847, this improved access allowed about a half dozen small hotels to spring up by the 1860s. During this period many famous Americans rusticated there: Washington Irving, Herman Melville, Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, and Walt Whitman. But the nature of vacationing at Coney Island changed quickly during the 1870s, when several railroad companies began service from Brooklyn; the completion of F.L. Olmsted's Ocean Parkway, a designated New York City Scenic Landmark, also provided a comfortable route for carriages. Grand hotels and restaurants accommodated the mostly well-to-do visitors, who came to enjoy not only the ocean and cool sea breezes but also the amusements which were transforming Coney into the most famous family park among its American counterparts. A festive atmosphere was ensured by the transferral to Coney Island of structures from the dismantled Centennial Exposition which had been held in Philadelphia in 1876. Coney Island developed into "America's first and probably still most symbolic commitment to mechanized leisure. The island increasingly became the site for technologically advanced structures such as the balloon hangar, elephant-shaped hotel and observatory (built in 1882, it became an unofficial symbol of American amusement parks), and the Iron Pier (1878) which housed many amusements. Mechanically-driven rides were pioneered at Coney,, one example being LaMarcus A. Thompson's Switchback Railway (1884), a precursor of the roller coaster. Most of these rides succeeded because they combined socially acceptable thrills with undertones of sexual intimacy. Indeed, Coney Island, which earned the sobriquet "Sodom by the Sea," was "the only place in the United States that Sigmund Freud said interested him." As early as 1883, Coney's name was identified with entertainment, proven by the renaming of a midwestern park as "Ohio Grove, The Coney Island of the West." Between 1880 and 1910 its three large and successful racetracks gave Coney Island the reputation as the horseracing capital of the country. In addition to gamblers, such features attracted confidence men, roughnecks, and prostitutes. Coney's many activities could be viewed from above in the three-hundred-foot Iron Tower (originally the Sawyer Tower at the 1876 Exposition). This most notorious phase of Coney's history ended around the turn of the century after many hotels burned down in fires during the 1890s and racetrack betting was outlawed by the state in 1910. A movement led by George C. Tilyou to transform Coney's corrupt image introduced the idea of the enclosed amusement park to American recreation. By 1894 there were dozens of separately owned rides; but the following year Capt. Paul Boyton opened Sea Lion Park, a group of rides and attractions one enjoyed after paying an admission fee at the gate. During the next decade, Coney's three most famous enclosed parks opened: Steeplechase Park (Tilyou's own endeavor), Luna Park, and Dreamland, forming "the largest and most glittering amusement area in th BBS CH-R Silver 20 inch Wheels BBS CH-R Silver 20 inch Wheels Related topics: trailers 5th wheel medicine wheel design ricks wheel alignment discount wheels canada 5th wheel trailer dealers wheel nuts alloy wheels download 18 wheels of steel extreme trucker full version free |

New shoes! Finally........got front tyres for the truck. Got a pair of Toyo Proxes 225/45X18" for the front wheels, they're part worn with 6mm tread. I figured there was no point in splashing out on brand new (expensive) tyres until i'm totally happy with the alignment. Plus they were cheap! OOPS! Just noticed all the (bad) repairs are showing in this shot! I will get professionals involved with the bodywork (I promise!) Day 32 - Toe Out I wasn't sure how this would come out, but I kinda like it. Apparently, my feet aim a little out when I stand with them at attention and the cheap carpet at work looks better out of focus. "Toe Out" by the way is a car term for alignment of the wheels, meaning them aim slightly away from each other. It's the first thing that came to mind when I looked at the shot and I stuck with it. HYPER FORGED WHEELS - FORGED WHEELS
Hyper Forged Wheels - Ashford Spinning Wheels Nz - Power Wheels Ninja Hyper Forged Wheels
New Ducati Sunset Junction The Hypermotard is Ducati's V-Twin, 1100cc take on the supermoto concept. As such it's been designed to offer all the excitement of a conventional supermoto, but with added style, practicality and usability. Bold claims, maybe, but in the flesh it's all this and more. The first time you clap eyes on it, it simply stops you in your tracks. Up close, the Hypermotard is more muscular and purposeful than it seems in pictures. It's also much smaller, more compact and has many more beautifully-detailed touches than you expect, too; things like dinky lever span adjusters, an LED-encrusted rear spoiler-cum-grabrail and 1098-style radial Brembo brake calipers. Two-wheeled jewelry of the highest order, the lot of it. Even the Hypermotard's color (you can have any you want as long as it's red) seems even more blood red than you expect. The total effect of all this is to imbue the Hypermotard with a classy, expensive, even exotic air that stablemates such as the Monster or Multistrada have never quite managed. But here's the best bit: the Hypermotard is also an affordable Ducati. It'll cost a quite mouth-watering €7750 ($11,495 U.S.) when it hits showrooms in June. While the 'S' version is here at the end of the month and is €8999 ($13,995 U.S.). Ok, that may sound a lot for a supermoto, but the Ducati is much more than just a cut-and-shut. If it's fun, style and attitude you're after, the Hypermotard will keep you amused long after you've got tired of that single-cylinder supermoto gathering dust in your garage. At 10 a.m. on Sunday morning we set off on what turned out to be the ultimate Sunday ride-out: an epic 60-mile route winding through glorious Sardinian mountain roads, and an afternoon at the track messing about with World Superbike nutter Ruben Xaus on the 'S' version. As if this wasn't enough, Ducati insisted we first sit down to watch the MotoGP from China before we set off! Lucky for all of us Casey won and all at Ducati were beaming all day. That said, the first few miles on board the Hypermotard are an alien experience. You sit very tall and are perched well forward. Aside from the LCD multi-functional racing dash, there's very little bike in your peripheral vision. It's like you're looking down from a window ledge on top of a skyscraper and initially it freezes you in the same way - you daren't brake or corner too hard for fear that you might fall over the edge. But that feeling soon goes away as you start to get to grips with what is the most exciting Ducati this side of a 1098S. Around town the Hypermotard is a joy, mainly due to the how incredibly smooth the big V-Twin engine is. The throttle response is peachy too, the gearbox slick and just like a supermoto it's super-agile. Best of all are the mirrors that fold out from the end of the handlebars. Although when extended they make the bars seem really wide (look at the pictures to see what I mean) - like those cow-horns you used to see on pushbikes as a kid - they work brilliantly and don't vibrate. Alternatively, you can tuck them right out of the way when playing at being a dispatch rider through the traffic or when visiting the track. Ok, it's a bit gimmicky, but it is a really good idea, too. If you're not keen, you can buy a pair of stalks and mount the mirrors in a more conventional way. The Hypermotord also has a decently-proportioned seat, which is comfy for all day riding, while rubber-topped pegs and rubber handlebar mounts keep vibes away from the rider. The clutch action has been lightened by 30% compared to the 1100 Mutistrada, which makes life easier, too. Ducati chose this air-cooled twin-spark, two-valve 1078cc V-Twin engine compared to say, the old 999 lump, for a number of reasons. The 'DS' motor is light to begin with, and thanks to a number of tweaks, including a dry clutch it's another 1.6 kg (3.58 lbs) lighter. It produces a whole heap of torque at just 4750 rpm too. But there is a fine line between this 90-hp DS engine being a smile-igniter and a disappointment, and that's all down to how much weight it has to push along. In the relatively heavy Multistrada 1100 it never really delivers - there's a blast of low-down stomp then it fizzles out and fun-time is over. But as we discovered last year, when fitted in something super-light, such as the BMX-like Bimota DB6, it is truly electrifying. I'm pleased to say the Hypermotard is light enough to take full advantage of this burbling V-Twin engine. So the Hypermotard certainly isn't just a Multistrada with different clothes. It weighs a full 17 kg (37.48 lbs) less thanks to many of its components being honed, tweaked and lightened. At just 179 kg (394.62 lbs), the tank-empty weight is less than a road-going Supersport 600. But there's no point in revving this engine, instead you need to ride the torque. Once you've scrubbed off speed with the Ducati's incredibly powerful twin radial Brembo set-up, the trick is to tip into the corners with around 4000 rpm showing on th WRX FORGE BPV S203 lip spoiler Bremmerkraft wheels Bro5 silver grill hella lights rally armour pink badge hyper silver sti stage 2 18psi mach v turbo inlet Kamotors PSM carbon fiber nurburgring Kamin WRX S203 lip spoiler Bremmerkraft wheels Bro5 silver grill hella lights rally armour pink badge hyper silver sti stage 2 18psi mach v turbo inlet Kamotors PSM carbon fiber nurburgring Kaminari Race wing Forge BPV Related topics: jeff gordon power wheels street racing wheels 2005 challenger 5th wheel 76mm longboard wheels most expensive hot wheels wheel horse red square small fifth wheel toy haulers oe wheels 4 wheel alignment nottingham acura integra wheel bearing |
POWER ASSIST WHEELCHAIR WHEELS - WHEELCHAIR WHEELS
POWER ASSIST WHEELCHAIR WHEELS - BIG WHEEL MAGAZINE. Power Assist Wheelchair Wheels
The StarkRolla HollaSide The foremost modifier company for 22nd century Stark Enterprises wheelchairs is StarkRolla. The "Home Slide" model, when pimped out by StarkRolla, became the "HollaSide." As a general rule, Stark Enterprises did not offer any models in the colours of the corporate bodyguard/CEO alter ego/divisive figure, Iron Man. StarkRolla regularly did, and the HollaSide offered copious amounts of gold to go with the deep crimson. Curiously, this colour scheme also matched well with the red jackets of Lego minifigures which sported the logo of the "Classic Space" line, best known from its use in the webcomic "Tranquility Base." The HollaSide is driven by a 9th-generation phebotinum drive, housed in the armoured section between and above the primary wheels. It is capable of travel three sentences ahead of the speed of plot. (This is an upgrade over the factory model, which only offers a maximum speed of a paragraph behind the speed of plot; wheelchair riders now can anticipate plot twists and punchlines with ease.) The primary wheels, which feature oversized gold rims and low profile racing tires, not only provide primary propulsion but also computer-assisted corrective balance and maximum street cred. Steering is the responsibility of the small fore and aft wheels, depending upon the drive configuration in use. The HollaSide offers two drive configurations. The first is a jacked up version of the factory standard, and the second is a lowered street-legal race version. (It is made legal by the addition of headlights, turn lights, and brake lights, all of which have the option to be within or to exceed the allowable limits for tolerable luminosity. The brake lights are housed within an appropriately impressive amount of chrome.) In case of low interior spaces, the wheelchair can safely operate in its street configuration indoors while terrifying those without such a fine ride. The forewheels, always visible, are rendered in a muscular gunmetal, while the aft wheels are in a discrete midnight black when deployed. All of this is done to ensure that maximum street cred can be enjoyed by the owner/driver. The three sets of wheels can we used to climb stairs in less enlightened areas lacking ramps, too. (StarkRolla disdains any company that claims to offer a wheelchair but does not place a wheel on the product, but they are, of course, purists.) To be street safe, the driver's seat had to be surrounded by side impact panels and offer full spinal support and protection. This has been achieved with an eye to style, aerodynamics, and visible arms for the purposes of demonstrative gestures. The side panels fold down to assist the driver in disembarking, and the back support is designed to raise and lower the driver to and from position. The side panels also offer mounting hardpoints for bling, weaponry, or other desirable and covetous items. The model shown here originally sported replicas of Scaramanga's Golden Gun and Count Dooku's lightsabre, but once the designed revealed that this was done so that he could rap the pun "roll up on them like Christopher Lee," the switch was made to a replica of Alec Guinness's instead. (The designer was forced to serve time reviewing the collected works of Joe Estevez without "Satellite of Love"-derived commentary as punishment.) The replica of the gun features name-and-shoot defense technology, as well as broadbeam rays to smooth out uneven ground. The replica of the lightsabre houses a full range of optical, auditory, olfactory, and taste sensors, particularly to assist in the selection of the freshest produce at the market as well as to monitor traffic conditions and potential threats to either person or plotline. The driver's controls are focused upon an electronic display and two levers. The levers are for vintage tanker-style steering as well as for manual wheel propulsion in case of low phlebotinum charges. (The depleted phlebotinum chassis and body of the wheelchair is exceptionally light and strong, except when necessary for the sake of literary or dramatic effect.) The electronic display can be controlled by voice, exhalation/inhalation, anxiety, and emphatic gestures, or even by touch interface if you're into that sort of thing. In case of rollover, two LampShaydeHanga (TM) force fields with fully independent power sources and focal antennae are situated directly behind the head of the driver to ensure driver safety, no matter how contrived or unlikely. The StarkRolla HollaSide is simply the most luxe wheelchair that the fictional future has to offer. New wheelchair! So excited to have it! It's a Kuschall Champion in "Purple Fire", with Alber E-Motion power assisted wheels. It is hard to say how much nicer it is than the old wheelchair, but ten being an order of magnitude more expensive, you might expect it! Also, it just makes moving around feel so nice, sometimes fun. I could sing their praises, but I'm not selling them ... so ;) Related topics: hot wheels volcano 18 wheels of steel pack how much does it cost for a wheel alignment wheel horse 1056 power wheels girls first wheels carrycot remove wheel lock |

And finally... we're on a plane AND in the air! After a hasty conncetion at T5 (no time for the shops, no) we squeezed on a full BA flight, and are en route to Delhi. Once we got there, at about 5am, before the wheels really touched the tarmac, the mainly Indian occupants of the plane jumped up and dragged their voluminous hand luggages out - nevermind the immigration queue awaiting us or the lengthy wait to get our luggage. In the queue to change money, some guy brazenly jumped in front of me. Lesson One: Don't believe in The Queue. And guess what? When it was my turn, I just as brazenly jumped in front of him.
