The Miami Heat may be without star center Shaquille O`Neal when they tipoff against the Chicago Bulls tonight at the United Center, the Chicago Sun-Times reported today.
Heat interim head coach Ron Rothstein said that O`Neal may not be able to handle back-to-back games after playing his second game since returning from knee surgery Friday night.
Shaq had an efficient 11 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of work as the Heat fell to the New York Knicks 116-96 as 4-point road favorites.
"We have to go one day at a time, see how he feels, how his knee reacts and all that stuff," Rothstein said. "He`s a little rusty. I`m not sure how long it will take, but it may take awhile. We`ll see how it develops."
Also of note for Heat bettors is the status of backup center Alonzo Mourning, who sat out Friday night`s game with flu-like symptoms.
Both O`Neal and Mourning are officially listed as questionable for tonight`s game. Books list the Heat as 6 1/2-point underdogs with the total set at 192.
