Steelers will start without Big Ben
The home side opened up as 5-point betting favourites but that number plunged when QB Ben Roethlisberger, following his off-season motorcycle mishap, had to undergo an emergency appendectomy and was released from hospital Monday. He should be ready to start the Steelers second game but for the time being Charlie Batch is the man.
This will be only Batch's third start in the last four years, but the Steelers won the previous two, both last season, when Roethlisberger had to have arthroscopic knee surgery.
