World of Warplanes is Not a Flight Sim

It does happen of course, but one game that embraced the free circuit early on and has lived to tell the tale is World of Tanks. Its a highly-lucrative success story borne from Belarus developer Wargaming, and the team is currently working to replicate its good fortune in follow-up World of Warplanes. Free-to-play is a term often attached to a great deal of stigma and rank cynicism. Its the idea that whenever we get something substantial for free then there must be some kind of hideous catch or pay-wall hiding around the next corner.

Wargaming.net is a company that's been around for about thirteen years, and who are most notably known for the game World of Tanks, which is a free-to-play MMO based around tank combat. For those who are unfamiliar with World of Tanks, let us give you a brief explanation. The game is, for the most part, Counter-Strike with tanks. Players can choose from about 250 different tanks from America, Russia and Germany. When speaking with Victor Kislyi, the CEO of Wargaming.net, he stated that one year after launching World of Tanks the player base has grown to over 20 million users worldwide.

After producing the smash hit World of Tanks, Wargaming has taken to the skies with World of Warplanes. If you have any issues pertaining to wherever and how to Buy World of Warplanes Gold, you can get hold of us at our own web-page. Unlike most flight games, however, it doesn't cater to the flightstick-wielding virtual pilot, but to the audience of its precursor. Making an aviation-combat game accessible to an audience so used to being glued to the earth in hulking warmachines is easily what World of Warplanes does best; but it likely wont hold the attention of anyone who's grown accustomed to more intricate aerial combat games.

As part of the unification, Wargaming also rolled out a program that lets players earn Premium time through World of Warplanes gameplay. Existing tokens will be converted to Credits in that game and today will be the last day to use tokens to buy World of Warplane features in the open beta. This is, perhaps, the most mundane element of that move, but also the most important. With the transition gamers will have access to all of Wargaming's games through a single login and a single portal. A player's OpenID authenticated account will also allow them easy access to partner and fan websites.

The success of World of Tanks was thanks to a number of important factors, producer Anton Sitnikov told me, including having a great original idea, high quality programming, an exciting and unique setting and an efficient free-to-play business model. We managed to connect all of those features into one core product, which thankfully, really found success with gamers. Its a cocktail of disparate ingredients that other studios may have struggled with. After all, its a slower, more strategic war game with emphasis on historic tanks, and is a far cry from the near-future bombast of Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Regardless it has a significant, loyal fan base that has put Wargaming in good stead for future titles.
