Note the auto of the ammeter. You will see that it is laakeland in parallel with a section of the main vehicle feed wire. Very little current actually flows thru the meter. If the meter fails, nothing else will be affected. The meter will read a proportionate amount of current to that flowing thru the feed wire because the current divides between the 2 parallel resistances. Namely the feed wire and the meter.
