"How the other half live". United's European opponents for Thursday, Israeli Hapoel Bnei Sakhnin, got to London and couldn't afford the bus fare to Newcastle!
Tomorrow night's UEFA Cup tie will only go ahead because Newcastle United paid for them to travel up country to Tyneside.
It's like something from the dark ages. The Israeli players arrived at Heathrow Airport late on Monday with no transport plans to complete their journey to the North East.
The Evening Chronicle reported: "In the end they appealed to United who agreed to cover the cost of a bus to bring the party to Newcastle".
They will not be staying at the five-star Gosforth Park Hotel but allegedly have digs, 12 to a room, at Mrs Miggins B&B in Scotswood Road.
They were seen on SKY Sports training back home in Israel with jumpers as goal-posts on a dog shit-covered park pitch. I thought it was a wind-up at the time. izvor
