Subaru's Petter Solberg leads the opening Rally Argentina timesheet after the first of two runs through the Villa Carlos Paz spectator superspecial.
With Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm close behind, though, the Norwegian can't guarantee he'll keep the overnight lead after the second time through. Gronholm's second-quickest time was just 0.3 seconds off Solberg's 2m09.1s effort, but the pair were a full 1.4s ahead of Ford's Markko Martin in third.
Citroen's Carlos Sainz and Harri Rovanpera's second Peugeot were evenly matched in fourth with a time 1.9s off Solberg's pace, while Francois Duval edged his Ford Focus ahead of the Citroen of current drivers' championship leader Sebastien Loeb to take sixth place.
Mikko Hirvonen rounded out the top eight in the second Subaru, while Gilles Panizzi and Kristian Sohlberg rounded out the top 10 for Mitsubishi.
