Double world champion Marcus Gronholm and team-mate Harri Rovanpera got Peugeot’s Rally Argentina weekend off to a solid start with the quickest time on the pre-event shakedown.
The Finns posted the fastest times around the short shakedown test, run in the centre of the Villa Carlso Paz superspecial, with Gronholm topping the timesheets with a 3m02.2s best effort, closely matched by Rovanpera’s 3m03.6 time.
Reigning world champion Petter Solberg was next up for Subaru, matching Rovanpera’s 3m03.6s effort, while Citroen’s Carlos Sainz and Ford’s Francois Duval made it a hat-trick of drivers on the same time, suggesting that this weekend’s event could be the closest of the season so far.
Current world championship leader Sebastien Loeb was sixth quickest in the other Citroen Xsara with a 2m04.2s best effort, while Mitsubishi’s Kristian Sohlberg pipped Ford’s Markko Martin to seventh with a 3m06.2s compared with the Estonian’s 3m07.0s.
Gilles Panizzi’s Mitsubishi rounded out the works WRC cars with a 3m09.3s best.
