...

then there was a long silence. it almost seemed as if the conversation had ended. but then, just as i was about to open my eyes, it continued. in the interval i felt that he sat down next to me and that he too was drinking coffee. so much for the shirt. i wondered what he had on but was much too interested in the conversation going on in my head.
“kiss me....”silence
“let me introduce you to my plants, would you like that?...well this one is naostra, she is a cute one with an evil name, always crying though so she can be quite a bore. the one over there is called little one. it is not only because he is so tiny. sometimes he says things that just remind me of the pranks we did when we were little children. this one – hey listen! it’s a nightingale!” another silence.
i found that if i concentrate hard enough i could hear the nightingale’s song somewhere far off, just like backing vocals in a band.
he moved just slightly and i opened my eyes leaving the nightingale’s song behind. i touched his face checking that he was real. his flesh was cool in the hot sticky morning. i looked into his eyes and left my hand on his cheek the coolness slowly creeping up my hand. then, instead of his face I saw a small robin sitting on my hand.
“why did you leave me?”
“i didn’t, you left us...” the weak churp of the bird drifted, almost up my arm and into my head.
“left you where?” a harsh man’s voice brought my hand back to the boys face.
“left me...all to my self. you said we’d go for a swim in the most magnificent oceans of violet and pink, or green...i know it was my idea! but you didn’t object to it.....do you think you could spend another night?...no, i’m not feeling sad! what a question?! would you like some coffee?...no i’ll go make some. i only drink coffee i make.”
