I was inspired by this video to write an article about monogamy.
The thesis of the video is that one should be proud of monogamy, of being able to resist temptations, despite having opportunities, and having the discipline to do so.
While I support monogamy, I have a somewhat different view on the subject.
It has to do with something I already mentioned a number of times concerning spirituality, which I define as aware self-activated life integrating all dimensions of life, including the physical sexual ones, inside the spiritual: inside that aware self-activating and self-sustaining dynamic of life of the mind-body system, integrating every one of its aspects into that One Dynamic.
On the opposite, there is the animal principle, which I define as reactivity to sensory stimuli, creating loops of energy inside the psycho-physical system activated by direct external stimuli, or derived external stimuli (thoughts, fantasies, etc.), but not having that integrative property of a circle of energy self activated from inside by integrative self awareness.
In a human spiritualized psycho-physical system (mind-body system) - a system that integrates all aspects of its internal and external life into one self-activated aware dynamics, sex does not exist as something independent, activated reactively by sensory stimuli, but is part of the aware, integrative and creative inner self-activated energy of the system, which represents the realization of its completeness.
Therefore in such a complete system, or in an advanced stage of completion, sex comes from the most fundamental purpose of that self aware and self activated system, which is the creation, building and integration of life.
Two people who are realized in that sense, can only connect and integrate their lives in a common self activated energy if they join at their highest level of integrative awareness, at their spiritual level, and manifest all the dimensions and activities of life exclusively from that level of aware integration and completion. They become one spiritual unit, where individuality is not lost, but thrives, but is also integrated inside the spiritual principle and dynamic uniting both individuals.
This union in its completeness is only possible in monogamy, because, every deviation from monogamy would create a disconnect, then would need a reconnection etc. The two could not be fully integrated as one spiritual principle in all their dimensions of life, from the source awareness of that inner dynamic, to all of its manifesting aspects including the physical ones, and therefore the sexual one too.
All this is connected to the spiritual maturation, integration, and completion of a human psycho-physical system.
Spirituality doesn't end there, in this self activating integration and completion of the psycho-physical system. It goes beyond, towards a purified awareness of the principle, on a deeper level, independent even of the aspects of integrated psycho-physical life.
It is not necessary to follow this sequence to go beyond the psycho-physical, but it helps a lot, because without its integration inside the spiritual principle, one is still at the mercy of the disintegrated and disintegrative reactive energy loops activated by sensory stimuli, and then one must force oneself not to fall into those reactive energies. One must have "discipline", as was mentioned in the video.
In an integrated system, such discipline is unnecessary, because such a system perceives its potential fall to reactive levels of being, as an energetic disintegration of oneself, which is not just not attractive, but actually higly repulsive.
Such system stabilized itself an a higher level of being, on a higher level of integrated dynamic, and the idea of falling from that level to lower reactive levels, becomes disgusting, not from a moral standpoint, but from an energetic one.
It would mean the disintegration of oneself at that achieved level of awareness and completeness.
