When Virgil Abloh opened his "Figures of Speech" exhibition at MCA Chicago back in June 2019, sneakerheads everywhere were immediately captivated by the "AN ARRAY OF AIR" installation that showcased some of the American designer's prototypes. From never-before-seen Air VaporMax samples to the iconic Off-White x Air Jordan 1 High "Canary", one sneaker stood out among the rest, and that was the Off-White x Air Jordan 4 "Bred".
Originally rumoured to drop in 2020 and then in 2021, nobody could have ever predicted that both years would be taken over by a worldwide pandemic. With all that said, after over 700 days of nothing but supply chain issues and major delays, it looks like the hotly anticipated Air Jordan 4 could finally be on the horizon - that's according to the latest rumours anyway.
The last time Off-White took on the AJ4 was the "Sail" from last summer. A shoe that quickly became of the most hyped of that year, Abloh will be replicating this winning formula to the upcoming "Bred". Inspired by the OG "Bred" from 1989, the sneaker has been injected with the deconstructed flair that the Milan-based brand is renowned for.
Working on a stealthy black suede base, grey ripstop mudguards embrace the toebox while translucent rubber elements can be found throughout for added depth. Pops of red adorn the tongue and Air midsole, while the heel boasts the original Nike badge. To round it all off, this AJ4 comes with a glossy black zip tie - an element that has become synonymous to Virgil's brand.
According to our sources, the Off-White x Nike Air Jordan 4 "Black Red" is currently in production and is slated to release at the tail end of 2022. While that may seem like a lifetime away, some things are just worth the wait. Let us know what you think of this potential colourway, and while you're here, you might as well take a detailed look at the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid "White"!
