Laser Hair Removal Treatment

If you are not comfortable with removing unwanted hair with a shave, wax, or tweezers, then you can consider laser hair removal treatment. In laser hair removal procedure, the laser radiates a beam of light and is absorbed by the melanin (a pigment present in hair). The energy of light is converted into heat, damaging the tubular sacs in the skin (hair follicle) that produces hair. This damage may impede or slow down hair growth in the future.

Laser treatment uses a high-temperature laser ray (or beam) as mild radiation. In this treatment process, these laser beams damage and heat up the hair follicles. This process offers long-lasting results i.e. hair will remove for a longer period, although still there are some chances of hair regrow, especially if the hair follicle is not properly removed during the laser hair removal procedure. Due to this reason, this treatment is not stated as a permanent hair removal process.

Laser Hair Removal Procedure
• Prior to laser hair removal treatment, a medical professional (a physician, or nurse) clean up the treatment area. If the area is particularly sensitive, you can apply a numbing gel. Throughout the procedure, all the people in the room have to wear special safety glasses to avoid any form of damage to the eyes from the laser.
• When the numbing gel is activated, the healthcare specialist directs a high energy beam to the treatment area. The time duration of the process depends upon the size of the treatment area, the larger the area you desire to be treated, the longer time it will take. It only takes a few minutes for small areas, but it takes more than an hour for large areas such as a chest.
In any case, if you do not want to bear the high expense of this medical treatment, that isn’t really permanent anyway, there are many options for hair removal at home.
Talk to your dermatologist about:
• Proper shaving techniques
• Tweezer epilators
• Threading
• Waxing or sugaring
Recovery and Risks
• After 1-2 days, the treated area of the skin will tan. Although you can use the moisturizers refer by your dermatologist.
• After some days your treated hair will fall out. To stop temporary discoloration of the cured skin, apply sunscreen recommended by the dermatologist.
• Blisters are rare but are often seen in people with a dark complexion. Other possible side effects include redness, swelling, and scarring. However, the permanent scars and discoloration of the skin are very rare.
How long does this treatment last?
• When the hair follicles are permanently destroyed, only then we can say that ‘laser hair removal is permanent’. If the hair follicles are only damaged, then the hair will sooner or later regrow.
• Hair regrowth time depends on a unique human hair growth cycle. In some people growth of hair take place much faster than others.
• Many people have reported that they had seen hair regrowth within a few months after the treatment. If such a condition arises, it is best to opt for other hair removal treatment methods.

Conclusion
Although laser hair removal is not a permanent solution to your unwanted hair growth problems, yet it is still one of the best treatment procedures to slow down hair growth for a longer period of time. Other options for long-term hair removal that can be discussed with a dermatologist include needle epilators and electrolysis.
