In the interactive exhibition, sounds that were uploaded to Soundsslike archive by participants took place also in the exhibition area so that participants became a part of the exhibition. The Soundsslike project was also presented as an interactive installation in Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations RCAC and by means of an experiential exhibition at Studio-X Istanbul.

The Soundscape of Istanbul project approaches everyday traditions and daily urban life from a sonic perspective and aims to increase public awareness of cultural sounds. Zoom Handy Recorder is recommended.

Sertaç Kak1 ve Doç. Pek fark1nda olmasak da günlük hayat1m1z1n ve kültürümüzün ayr1lmaz parçalar1 olan sesler, somut olmayan kültürel miras aç1s1ndan ise eºsiz bir öneme sahiptir. Kay1t alt1na al1nmayan veya arºivlenmeyen sesler, ne yaz1k ki yok olup giderler. Özellikle 0stanbul gibi dinamik bir ºehrin yaºay1º1, dolay1s1yla da sesleri h1zla de iºti i için ºehrin ses sembollerinin korunmas1, kültürel haf1zan1n ve kültürel kimli in sürdürülebilirli i aç1s1ndan önemli ve gereklidir. Projenin en temel amac1 ise; kentsel ve kültürel seslere olan fark1ndal1 1 art1r1rken, bu seslerin korunmas1n1 kolektif bir çal1ºmaya dönüºtürmek. Europeana Sounds organizasyonu ile kurulan ortakl1k sayesinde, koleksiyondaki sesler art1k Europeana Sounds platformunda da ulaº1labilir hale geldi. The Soundsslike Project The Soundsslike archive, which is created under a research project titled The Soundscape of Istanbul conducted by P1nar Çevikayak Yelmi during her doctoral studies, supervised by Assoc. Sertaç Kak1 and Assoc. As1m Evren Yantaç, is developed by Hüseyin Kuºcu. The Soundscape of Istanbul project approaches everyday traditions and daily urban life from a sonic perspective and aims to increase public awareness of cultural sounds. Sounds are inevitable parts of our daily lives and our cultures. Also, sounds are of great importance in terms of intangible cultural heritage. Sounds that are not protected or archived get lost forever. In a dynamic city such as Istanbul, daily life and urban sounds change rapidly. Therefore, it is significant and necessary to protect cultural soundmarks of the city to sustain cultural identity and cultural memory. In The Soundscape of Istanbul project, sound symbols of Istanbul were determined according to an online survey and interviews that we conducted. These characteristic urban sounds were recorded with professional equipment throughout the year 2015. Soundsslike project is initiated in order to expand this sound collection. In this project, an interactive platform was developed in which anyone can record and upload sounds. The main aim of the project is to raise public awareness of urban and cultural sounds and to protect these sounds as a collective work. The project became associate partners with Europeana Sounds and the collection can also be accessible under Europeana Sounds portal. The Soundsslike project was also presented as an interactive installation in Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations RCAC and by means of an experiential exhibition at Studio-X Istanbul. In the interactive exhibition, sounds that were uploaded to Soundsslike archive by participants took place also in the exhibition area so that participants became a part of the exhibition. In the experiential exhibition, however, visitors had the chance to experience the cultural sounds that are lost in the chaos of the city by the clues in the installation. Zoom Handy Recorder önerdi imiz bir ses kay1t cihaz1d1r. Ancak ak1ll1 telefonlarla yap1lan kay1tlar da kabul edilir. Ses kay1t cihaz1n1 hiçbir yere de meyecek ºekilde mont, h1rka vb. E er hareket etmeniz gerekiyorsa, çok yavaº hareketlerle yürümeye çal1º1n1z. Temiz ses kay1tlar1 için sabit durman1z önerilir. Ancak foto raf1n1z yoksa, ses kayd1n1z ile birlikte otomatik olarak projenin logosu belirecektir. Lütfen eser sahibinden en az1ndan sözlü izin al1n1z. GUIDELINES The Soundsslike Project is a crowdsourced sound heritage archive which invites contributors to record urban sounds that are considered as intangible cultural heritage elements and to add them to the archive. Zoom Handy Recorder is recommended. Smart phones are also welcome. You can simply hide your sound recording device into your clothings without touching anywhere. For clear outcomes, standing still is recommended. You need to be sure that you have permission, at least orally. All recordings uploaded to the Soundsslike Project will need to be approved by the moderation team before they appear on the archive. The moderation team reserves the right to decline submissions based on poor audio quality, unrelated content or copyright infringement.
