Belgrade, The Capital of Serbia and my hometown, is one of the oldest cities in Europe. I really love Belgrade. There are many reasons for it, but there is one thing making Belgrade different. Belgrade simply accepts everyone who comes, that's something I have never had, even though I visited many places. Just come and do enjoy Belgrade's unique charm and hospitality. Belgrade is located in the south-east of Europe, in the Balkan Peninsula, at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube rivers. Thank you for visiting this gallery. All your comments are very welcome. So tired of reading about silly peoples comments about the last war and all that crap,Serbia has been treated with unjustice always, and anyone with a deeper understanding of culture and politics know the truth, that Serbians was made the bad guys, the truth.. I love these photos, wonderful,my dream is to see Belgrade, and the countryside, all the beautiful landscapes, taste the food and listen to the beautiful Serbian language. I am such a devoted fan : Tamara 27-May-2012 11:22 Dragi Vlado, Bravo! Oduševile su me , a takođe i brojni komentari. Silom prilika sam par godina odrastanja proveo negde između ovih slika i tada sam zavoleo Beli Grad na neki poseban način, neopisiv i neobičan.... Sada, nakon 15 godina,život me ponovo vodi u Beograd! These pictures of Belgrad really inspired my need to travel again to Europe, I couldn't help to copy to my album some of the images of Vlado MARINKOVIC as the Dog's Pas a Deux ballet, the seagulls in the blue Danube, an interior of marvellous church, the tucan at the Zoo, the urban snow and the figure of Ziko Who is that misterious man??? If you get the same nostalgia of travelling one fine day, come and visit me in México City. You're more than welcome, we have marimbas here for your ears! Gracias, betokkikke en YouTube. Pazi, I know just enough Serbian language to be dangerous... I just returned from Beograd last week from visiting my family for almost one month. We live in San Diego, California For the past 6 years we have visited her family, kumovi, friends, etc. I absolutely love Beograd!! Your photos depict many of the wonderful sites and places I have been fortunate to personally visit the past several years. You have really captured wonderful images of the City. I have always have felt very welcome, even though people laugh at my attempts at conversing in Serbian! For the first time, last month, I visited Avala just outside of Beograd. What peaceful nature and such a beautiful panoramic view from all directions. I found your web site by accident. Srdačan pozdrav iz centra Beograda : Barry 27-Feb-2009 10:07 Recommended by my friend Snjezana who is very proud of her home and rightly so. A beautiful city with a fascinating blend of old and new but for me the jewels are the historical parts of the city. One day I hope to visit and see for myself all the sights Belgrade has to offer. My compliments to the author of this site you have done a superb service to your city.......... Thank you Dragana Lukic Zivkovic 23-Feb-2009 20:41 Postovani gospodine, nisam ni znala, dok nisam videla Vase fotografije, koliko je nas Beograd lep. I sama sam umetnik tj. Do tada uzivajte u Vasoj umetnosti i Vasem vidjenju Beograda. Srdacan pozdrav od Dragane Vesna Zenovic 02-Feb-2009 22:24 Vlado prvi put otvaram vas sajt i odusevljena sam sa slikama pogotovo zato sto sam ja zaljubljena u Bg od kada sam prvi put dosla da ga posetim. To je moj omiljeni grad i imam i ja neke slike bas iz svih delova grada a pogotovo sa zalascima i sutonima. Najvise volim tu vrstu jer sam romantik u dusi. Paul 22-Nov-2008 19:20 Vlado - I have only seen a small number of the photos but am enjoying them very much. I lived in Belgrade from 1969 to 1974, attending the International School of Belgrade. I have great memories of it as a beautiful city. We first lived in the Hotel Moskva for a few weeks, then on Lola Ribara not sure if that's spelled correctly and then moved to the diplomatic compound. Thank you for the pictures! A person who posted on this site is named Gordana Sokic--could you please ask her to contact me? I don't know if she's the same Gordana Sokic, but I'm hoping she is! I have a question about IOM policy in the late 1990s and would love to ask her a simple question. Ja sam rodjen u Beogradu 1969. Poslednjih deset godina zivim na Floridi. I dolazimo u Beograd cesto. Vucko 11-Apr-2008 18:40 Zaista, zaista lepa kolekcija fotografija... Ja sam kao i ti... Beogradjanin, vec 28 godina, majka i otac Beogradjani, cak i jedna baka mi je Beogradjanka... Your pictures of Beograd are captivating. I grew up in Beograd, left in 1975 and have not been back since 1982. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity and providing me with a nostalgia overload. You have captured Beograd as a currently vibrant but a historic European city. All of that much different from the Pacific shores of the sunny Sydney, Australia where I now live. I'll keep coming back to Beograd at, least to your galery if not in person. To, medjutim imas u svim vecim gradovima. Vidis, ja zivim u Beogradu preko 50 godina, bio sam nebrojeno puta u nebrojeno razlicith restorana, nikada jos nisam zavrsio u hitnoj! Pozdrav, Vlada reica 22-Jan-2008 23:09 e ovako... I haven't seen any like the ones you have in a quite a while... On your website I seen how beautifull your city is, but I didn't see picture on the U. Grad u kome sam se rodila, odrasla, prvi put se igrala i zaljubila i u kome su svi ljudi koje volim i koji mi sada tako nedostaju. SLike na ovom situ make me smile and make me tell people of how Serbia is the most amaising country in the world and it has the most valued beauty. I just forgot completely and unintentionally. I plan to come again to Serbia someday to shoot more photos as the photography is my passion. Your photos are fabulous! Comparing here where I live, I can see my doctors who are Deaf and the communication is heavenly easy in sign language, or go to Veterinarian who is also Deaf. Same thing with the Deaf Dentist. Here, we have many Deafs who are highly college educated in master degrees, or even in PhD degrees. Whenever I visit Serbia and meet Deafs, it still sadden me to see how they are set in the struggling life and fighting for a better own life. The better chances for them are being passed by the “hearing people” with attitude and selfishness from opening mind to think of the Deafs’ potential to do better in their own life paths. So the message for those who are there in Serbia, get up and open up the gates of opportunity for the Deafs without discrimination and rejection. Maybe you start to photograph Deaf people, get know Deaf’s culture, and expose them to the “hearing people” in your country as a way to educate the “hearing” people. Treat them as first class as you would like to be treated by others. Because, I have already firsthand experienced myself with humility being treated as second class which became so intolerable! Danijela, USA “We are just humans with many potentials waiting to be unleashed, being Deaf is just only a loss of hearing, so what. However, intelligence is not lost and intact. Being Deaf is also a gift for seeing richer life than “hearing” people who would overlook. Comparing here where I live, I can see my doctors who are Deaf and easy communication in sign language, or go to Veterinan who is also Deaf. Same thing with Deaf Dentist. Danijela, USA Guest 01-Aug-2007 00:44 Indeed yet, it is beautiful. But the problem is, they are not developed the better system to serve Deaf people a fair access to job, education, interperter for the Deaf, etc, etc. Thus is it no for all people with who are Deaf. I know some one Deaf who work in printer was not given a deserved vacation in 3-4 years! That's the reason, I couldn't stay there, but left for a good reason. I've seen so much discrimination and so much looking down to Deaf people as if they are less intelligent to the point that I got so fed up and so frustrated. Again, it is not for all people. Thank you all people. Frankly speaking I have no enough of time to answer to all of you, nevertheless, I am so happy to read all of your messages, and to make any improvement, regarding better understanding of Belgrade and spirit of Belgrade's people. Bane,Dorcol Gisella Karna 09-Jul-2007 03:33 Hey, how are you! Tvoje fotografije nam ocaravaju magiju prirode nase zemlje Srbije. He´d like to be worthy the nostalgia of those who in this very moment are thinking of him. I will have fun! My finacee is pola englez pola kubanac, and i know he will definatly love to see all of this actually we r arriving there in june, so i can't wait! Thank you so much for the wonderful pictures.... Vlado, mate, if I get fired it's your fault. I enjoyed going through the pictures yesterday, but I wasn't that emotional, maybe because I've just returned from a four-week holiday in Belgrade. How many souls you have touched, how many tears have been shed, how many incredible life stories behind those few sentences. Your site is not only about beautiful pictures of the city we love, it has become much more about people who were born or lived for a while in Belgrade, then moved on with their lives as I did 11 years ago. And about how they feel about those times and about themselves. And also about those who came on a short visit, as well as those who have never been in Belgrade, but still have something nice to say. And, of course, about those who leave there. I'll keep coming back. To Belgrade and your site. Now I am sending this address to everyone I know. My husband is Canadian and he has never visited Belgrade- we plan to visit next summer. Though it is not my hometown it has left an imprint in my heart that will always stay there. Belgrade is not to watch, it is to be loved, and that's what you showed on these pictures. You caught it's beauty mixed with its soul in one! You are an artist, a great artist. That's why i will always get back here, wherever i go and stay, this is my home, the best place to be! Ja sam sedmomesecni kanadski imigrant u trenutnoj borbi s nostalgijom. Beograd nisam videla nekih sedam meseci, pa su me tvoje fotografije totalno dokusurile. Eduardo Brazil 22-Feb-2007 04:23 Right at this moment, I'm sitting in a balcony in the Wonderful City of Rio de Janeiro Brazil admiring the pictures of the also wonderful city of Beograd with my great Serbian friend Mina! Cestitam na prelepim slikama! Obs: come take some pictures of Brazil! When I see the pictures on the web site i feel as if I have visited this place before. It seems so familiar. Especially when our friends go home and bring back their own pictures of their holidays. Some day I wish to go to Belgrade and visit this beautiful city. This is a really great web page to visit. People, come and visit this beautiful city, its ancients, peoples manners. I reckon, you wont be sorry for money you need to spent and time for travelling. You will remember this journey for all of your life. People are kind and polite and food is delicious! Lep pozdrav, Aleksandra Aleks 03-Jan-2007 05:55 Beautiful pictures. I am excited to be coming to Beograd in just 8 days!!! I will be there for the Serbian new year celebration for those who don't know, out of tradition we celebrate the julian calendar new year and christmas. I have not been to Srbija in 6 years, and extensively in Beograd for 11 years, and these pictures remind me of why I have that city in my heart. I was born in Krusevac, but Beograd is where I hope to buy a condo someday. I live in Chicago, and I think it is at the top of the greatest cities, but Beograd has a soul and atmosphere rivaled by none. I feel lucky to be connected to both cities. DC 02-Jan-2007 08:57 Makes me proud for being born there! U slavu Beograda i Srbije! Mira 22-Dec-2006 13:14 Postovani gospodine Vlado, Izuzetno dobre fotografije. Pozdrav, Mira Zeljko 05-Dec-2006 11:22 Wow.... Lepota Beograd'a, lepote Srbije, lepota Srbe se jasno vidi kroz ovi slika. Breat capture of seens, of colours, and of spirit. I will go there very soon Guest 02-Dec-2006 11:58 Belgrade is... Belgrade A City of Human Proportion There are few things in Belgrade that I have not already seen elsewhere. Perhaps only three: its rivers, its sky and its people. It is out of those three ancient elements that the unique spirit of Belgrade was born. Clouds scud across the sky above the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, combining mists with eastern and western winds - that dramatic Belgrade sky which resembles a great celestial battleground. The spiritual mood of its inhabitants is projected across it at any moment of the day. The people who grew up on a stone hill beneath such an arousing expanse cannot be broad of gesture, stormy of temperament and changable in their mood. These people, who stand at this crossroads of winds, with the many traces of previous settlements and past civilisations, those people are capable of building their city anew, a city of human proportion. It is a town that will not unsettle the hearts of its visitors with its enormity, but it will bind those selfsame visitors to it forever with a hundred invisible threads. Aerial pictures of Belgrade show - as clear as on the palm of your hand, its past, present and future. Belgrade's palm has callouses and scars; it offers a firm, friendly handshake, extending the strength of a clenched first, yet the softness of a caress. The city will never attract the inquisitive collector of beauty, but it will affect a totally different influence; it will incite the almost physical pain of longing in those who have spent sometime on its streets just as a photograph of a long lost love can inflict mortal pain. It will bewitch us with its charm, but will never reveal the secret of that strange love, a love that is beyond comprehension. Ove slike su zaista fantasticne!!! Excellent portrait of Belgrade, Serbia... Everytime I visit Serbia and Beogradu I am always greeted with great hospitality and friendship! I am excited to visit White City next week to see my special friends and loved one:- I luv the walks along the Danube in Zemun and visit the many cafes along the waterfront!!! Zoran Popovic 27-Aug-2006 05:59 You've done a superb job Vlado....... I was there last year for Eurobasket and have been arrogantly telling all my Australian and English friends since - that Serbia has the greatest women and food in the world!!! Now if only you could reduce the travel time from Melbourne 26 hours of sheer hell. I have been living in the U. These pictures had me crying from the first picture to the last. My son and daughter saw the pictures and were entranced by the beauty of our country. Marko church is where I spent every Sunday with my grandmother. Boy what memories your pictures have brought. I wish to congratulate all citizens of Serbia and all Belgraders on our restored independence. I wish the people of Montenegro good luck, we will always remain brothers, but it's better for Serbia to finally start looking after itself. It's very exciting to be part of this historical process. Greetings to everyone, from Belgrade, Serbia finally! The Belgrade is amazing city and i really love it. No matter where you are from or what religion you have. Belgrade will welcome you. There are very friendly people in BG. Can't wait to get there again in the summer. We go there in every summer. Also it doesn't matter which season is going on cause there's always something happening. It's a real cosmopolitan: Lynn Barr 27-Mar-2006 05:08 Thank you so much for your lovely photographs of your city, I can feel your love for your city. I will be coming to Belgrade to teach dance at the Children's Cultural Center and to work with some dancers and leave them with works to be performed in your city. Through our art we can know each other better. I look forward to coming to your city! I will invite you to our performance. Lynn Barr New York, U. Toma 17-Mar-2006 03:18 Vlado, you are a genius! Although I live in belgrade and never left it for more than a month your pictures filled my eyes with tears. They are so beautifull! Man, you really showed that there is still some magic left here. Thank you for this, it really means a lot, I think it was at least 20 years since I felt this way about Belgrade. It makes it so much more difficult to leave... JOVANA iz Toronta 14-Mar-2006 21:48 WOW I AM SPEECHLESS... E Vlado hvala ti puno za ovo nemas pojma koliko ovo nasem narodu znaci... PRELEPE su slike da nemam reci.. INACE hvala ti puno slike su ti fenomenalne i stvarno imas talenat za to... Ja imam izraz Pictures say a thousand words and they do! BEOGRAD IS GORGEOUS ALWAYS WAS AND WILL BE! Vladimir Drobashevsky 24-Feb-2006 15:19 Dear Vlado, Thank you so much for the beautiful pix of Beograd. I could almost cry from joy, seing this magnificent city, where I grew up. For the most part I remember Terazije and certainly Kneza Milana and Michaila Streets, but there is something new to me - the Sv. You are specifying, it is at Svetosavsky Trg, and looking from Terazije, I did notice the Church. But then it would end up preko puta Skupstine on the other side? As you can see, I am all mixed up. Anyway, I appreciate your beautiful photography and hope to hear from you soon. BELI ZEMUN Niagara Falls Canada George 11-Jan-2006 21:21 Thanks for those lovely images from a city I loved when I visited in August 1995. Can't forget the dance I had under the moonlight beside the waters of Dunabe, in Zemun area. Later I lived the sad experince of learning about the crable of the Avala Tower, a strong part of those memories of mine. I would love to be there again and have a drink while watching the Dunabe waters. All i expressed was a personal opinion and nothing else. I have seen your gallery as well as that of vlastimir and i think that they are very spectacular in comarison to Ilias' cloudy and dark photos. I like Belgrade a lot. Hope to visit it during next summer. Hvala ti CARE i keep up the good work, sto bi rekli raspali ameri... Hvala za divne fotografije, i srdacan pozdrav, Neda Kovacevic, knjizevnica iz Beograda Alex Belgrade 27-Oct-2005 19:09 Vlado, it takes me forever to download all the beautiful photos. Could we meet and perhaps if you could put your photos on a CD? I would like to keep a copy for me and also give copies to my foreign friends, domestic friends and relatives who live far away, abroad. You are doing a wonderful job. The TOURIST ORGANIZATION OF BELGRADE should make you their director. Thank you so much and God bless. Hm, it looks like Vlada will be busy for the next 100 lifetimes to shoot all commissioned photos of all cities and all corners of Serbia! And who knows, maybe it won't be only Serbia! Me too - I have just thought to order some photos... Guest 21-Sep-2005 16:45 Zdravo Vlado! Fotografije su Vam zaista fenomenalne!!! Nisam bio u Beogradu 14 godina, i Vase umetnicke fotografije Beograda me magicno prenose u moj grad. Your photography is indeed phenomenal!!! I have not been back to Belgrade for 14 years, and your artistic photography is magically transporting me into my city. Thank you for the effort to create this web site and this forum. I don't remember I've seen anything more representative about Belgrade than this, what you created for the glory of this eternal city! With best wishes, Branislav, USA. Marince 14-Sep-2005 14:11 I am really satisfieid because I can see so many pictures from the white and beautiful Beograd. It was so good, and will stay in my mind forevar. I think you need to make some more photos from the square Slavija, because we were situated in the hotel Slavija. So much regards, from Macedonia Ira 13-Sep-2005 11:36 Greetings, thanks, gallery it is simple supĺr! One week ago I was in Belgrad and have simply fallen in love with this city, not looking at that that i was there only one day. For me it has appeared very native and close and not such noisy as Kiev I from Ukraine. Searched on the Internet of a photo of Belgrad, it would be desirable to freshen memoirs, and so I and have found out your site. Once again thanks, has received huge pleasure! Necessarily once again I shall arrive to Belgrad and I shall remain longer... In Serbia very beautiful men : ; Guest 10-Sep-2005 15:13 Thank you for taking these pictures! It feels so good reading the positive comments about Serbia and Montenegro. Many people have a bad vision of our country and Serbs. Hearing bad opinions about Serbia in the medias, makes me feel sad and angry. Your pictures are like a medicament for the heart. The reaction of this medicament is always to be proud to come from Serbia... So go on, on your way! Show our country by the most beautiful side! Kind regrets form Zurich, Switzerland Adrijana P. Also, the city needs badly a facelift - facades were last redecorated in beginning of 80s with a few exceptions ofcourse. I wouldnt consider it a tourist-hit, but it isnt a bad place to live at. Gary 07-Sep-2005 15:56 Dear Vlado I spent a lot of time in Belgrade prior to teh 90's and all I can say is that it is the most amazing city I have ever been in. I never felt more alive in my life than the time spent there. The pics are great, you are very talented. Keep up the good work. I would like to see more pics of the people, that left the greatest impact on me, the people are unlike anywhere else. Thanks, Gary Dijana 25-Aug-2005 11:59 Mislim da su slike fenomenalne... Do sada ni sam videla bolje slike i necu ni videti sigurno! Jos jednom puno hvala i nastavite i dalje. Puno vas pozdravlja Aleksandra iz Skoplja IKAR 05-Aug-2005 13:22 WOW! Stvarno si u nekim slikama dotakao onu pravu pricu Beograda. Prikazao si ga u pravom svetlu-bar u onom u kojoj sam ga oduvek zamisljao! I was just looking for some pictures to see if I could recognize some places. Its a pretty interesting city with some bombed out buildings and run down neighborhoods. There's a McDonalds in the center of the city near the train station, I thought that was pretty neat. I heard a lot of Albanians are moving to Belgrade nowadays as they are harassed other places in Serbia. I wanna go back again some day, but right now being part of KFOR USA they make it a little difficult to cross the border. Well at least I get to see this part of the country, though I guess you can't really call Kosovo Serbia anymore. Anyways, greetings from MNBE. Hvala i pozdrav Slobodan Djini 03-Apr-2005 00:20 The picture gallery was wonderful! My husband and I visited Serbia last summer and your pictures brought back many pleasant memories of our trip. The story behind the restaurant name is very funny. My husband was born in Nis and it was his first trip back to Serbia after 45 years. As an American, I was impressed by the beauty of the country and the hospitality of its people. We are looking forward to returning to Serbia in 2006. Gordana 28-Mar-2005 11:31 Dear Vlado, my partner who is Australian found this site and gave this site to me wich I was greatful, but I thougt to my self I have sean so many of them! Well, I got emotional and delightet and could not stop looking and searching for all thise places that I visitet as I was groing up, and also visiting now since I left to leave in Australia very often, sometimes 3 times a year. Thank you for showing Saborna Crkva I leaved in Kneza Sime Markovica 4, I vent to school behind Saborna Crkva it was named Braca Ribar in those days I rented apartman in Kralja Milana when I was last in my beloved Belgrade. I leave in beautiful city Melbourn in most beatiful and prestiges suburb of Toorak in beatiful 2 story mansion, but my HEART is in Belgrade, Kalimegdan, Knez Mihajlova, Skadarlija, Ada, Carice Milice ulica etc. Volim svom silinom moj Beograd! When people ask me; what is it that is grat about Belgrad, I could only tell them , you have to visit to understand, it is not only about beautiful buildings and parks etc. Thanks Vlado i dodajte slike koje mozete ako moze Karadjordjeva 36 tu sam odrasla, samo ako moze. Regrads Gordana Savic P. I will recomand and proudly show your site to my Australian friends. Alex , LA, CA 12-Feb-2005 06:07 Vlado, odlicno si napravio sve. Pozdrav od Alekse 25-Jan-2005 14:18 Thanks to all of you. Regarding your comments I'd like to emphasize that I am not a pro, just amateur. I am working im my office usually 9 hours daily, so I really have no enough of time to visit all places I'd like. Next point is regarding weather conditions, it is very important, so, as I am usually waiting weekend days for making photo, someone could imagine how often weather allows it. Usce Sava an Danube Confluence is one of the Symbols of Belgrad, but, the main reason for having so many photos of it, is the fact, that it is very easy to come there, so, even when I have 15-20 min only, I can go there. Once again thank you for comments, welcome to Belgrade. Best regards, Vlado Minna 25-Jan-2005 13:05 Kena, ili ti komentar nije u redu, ili ti nisi u redu. Bas u tome i jeste lepota! Gildas 23-Oct-2004 15:12 Hi Vlado, Congratulations on your gallery, Belgrade seems a wonderful city! I am a French guy living so far away from Europe now Japan , unfortunately i haven't had a chance to go to Belgrade yet, but i really would like to since i'm interested in the culture there especially music, serbian folk music ROCKS!!! Anyway, pics are beautiful, see you there in the future maybe;- Guest 16-Oct-2004 01:23 Hi Vlado, I really enjoyed your gallery. I've got relatives in Belgrade and it reminded of my times spent there. A request if I may - I would really like to see more street candids and scenes of the city not frequented by tourists. These are my most vivid memories. Thanks for stopping by my galleries by the way and in the meantime I give you my vote and look forward to checking for any updates. Regards from Sydney, Australia! I have no visited Beograd in many, many years. The last time I was there I was a young girl, with my parents. I did not return since the war, for obvious reasons. I am wondering now how is it for Croat and Bosniac tourists? I am a secular Slavic Muslim, like most in Bosnia-Herzegovina; I do not wear a headscarf, I drink, I smoke - all the normal Balkan passtimes. But it is still quite safe for Serbian tourist in Sarajevo - most people do not hate Serbs, only nationlists - and we hate our own more than those from the other groups. I am just asking your opinion of whether or not it is safe for us to visit Beograd? We would be a group of 6 - Neva Muslim , Magdalena Muslim , Ajsa Muslim , Ljdia Serb , Eveta Jewish and myself. I hope to hear from you and, again, beautiful photographs!
