Rudolf II (1552-1612), was Holy Roman Emperor, King of Hungary and Croatia, King of Bohemia and Archduke of Austria, who lived in Rennaisance times. He is bit peculiar, compared with other Habsburg rulers. He's briefly described in this way in Wikipedia article: „Rudolf's legacy has traditionally been viewed in three ways: an ineffectual ruler whose mistakes led directly to the Thirty Years' War; a great and influential patron of Northern Mannerist art; and a devotee of occult arts and learning which helped seed the scientific revolution.“
Emperor Rudolf II spent most of his life in seclusion. He didn't like to travel or even partake in the daily affairs of the state. He rather pursued his own interests, among which were mostly studies of occult arts as astrology and alchemy. In Renaissance these fields were part of the mainstream studies, today they are called 'alternative science', though.
Rudolf undertook a string of (unsuccesful) negotiations for marriages, and remained bachelor for the rest of his life. He had a succession of affairs with women, and had several illegitimate children with his mistress Catherina Strada.
Rudolf moved the traditional capital of Habsburgs from Vienna to Prague in 1583. There he had a large collections of paintings and sculptures. He patronized natural philosophers and astronomers Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler. He owned a significant collections of minerals. Rudolf brought to his Prague Castle some of the Europe's best alchemists, like for example Dr. John Dee. It was Rudolf who gave to Prague a mystical reputation, that persist even to this day.
In my opinion, present incarnation of that peculiar Holy Roman Emperor, who indulged into occult sciences, is Croatian alternative scientist, who graduated in chemistry, and has M.Sc. degree. His name is Drago Plečko. He's not just any of numerous alternative scientists in this part of Europe, but outstanding one, as for example Rade Šerbedžija is among actors. Although he has master degree in mainstream science, he also incorporated in his learning some alternative views, and chiefly from the fields of hermetism, alchemy and astrology. Although he has knowledge of whole range of fields of alternative science, his principal interests concern the alternative medicine, based upon the blend of pranic healing traditions of East, of Indian yogis and western Wilhelm Reich's orgone energy healing.
Drago Plečko is author of numerous TV broadcasts and features in magazines. He participated to several world conventions concerning parapsychology and related fields. Plečko is author of six books. He has his therapy center in Samobor, town in vicinity of capital Zagreb. In 1990s he was for a while engaged in politics and has been deputy mayor of Samobor. And - in this life hes married, with children.
