LONG AGO
WE HAVE FORGOT WHAT WE HAVE BEEN
AND WHAT WE ARE WE LITTLE KNOW
WE FANCY NEW EVENTS BEGIN
BUT ALL HAD HAPPENED - LONG AGO

THROUGH MANY A VERSE LIFE'S POEM FLOWS
BUT STILL, THOUGH SELDOM MARKED BY MEN
AT TIMES RETURNS THE CONSTANT CLOSE
STILL THE OLD CHORUS COMES AGAIN

THE CHILDISH GRIEF – THE BOYISH FEAR –
THE HOPE IN MANHOOD'S BREAST THAT BURNS
THE DOUBT – THE TRANSPORT, AND THE TEAR –
EACH MOOD, EACH IMPULSE, OFT RETURNS

BEFORE MINE INFANT EYES HAD HAILED
THE NEW-BORN GLORY OF THE DAY
WHEN THE FIRST WONDROUS MORN UNVEILED
THE BREATHING WORLD THAT ROUND ME LAY

THE SAME STRANGE DARKNESS O'ER MY BRAIN
FOLDED ITS CLOSE MYSTERIOUS WINGS
THE IGNORANCE OF JOY OR PAIN
THAT EACH RECCURING MIDNIGHT BRINGS

SO LOOKING INTO THY FOND EYES
STRANGE MEMORIES COME TO ME, AS THOUGH
SOMEWHERE – PERCHANCE IN PARADISE –
I HAD ADORED THEE - LONG AGO

[according to the poem „Stanzas“ by Thomas W. Parsons,
music by val3]

AS THE MOON CLIMBS
A POEM SHOULD BE PALPABLE AND MUTE
AS A GLOBED FRUIT
AND DUMB
AS OLD MEDALLIONS TO THE THUMB
SILENT AS THE SLEEVE-WORN STONE
OF CASEMENT LEDGES WHERE THE MOSS HAS GROWN

A POEM SHOULD BE WORDLESS
AS THE FLIGHT OF BIRDS
A POEM SHOULD BE MOTIONLESS IN TIME
AS THE MOON CLIMBS

LEAVING, AS THE MOON RELEASES
TWIG BY TWIG THE NIGHT-ENTANGLED TREES
LEAVING AS THE MOON BEHIND
– THE WINTER LEAVES

MEMORY BY MEMORY -
THE MIND
A POEM SHOULD BE MOTIONLESS IN TIME
AS THE MOON CLIMBS

A POEM SHOULD BE EQUAL TO
NOT TRUE
FOR ALL THE HISTORY OF GRIEF
AN EMPTY DOORWAY, A MAPLE LEAF
FOR LOVE
LEANING GRASSES AND TWO LIGHTS ABOVE
- THE SEA
A POEM SHOULD NOT MEAN
BUT BE
[according to the poem „Ars Poetica“ by Archibald MacLeish,
music by val3]

THE LOUNGE GODDESS
WHERE ICY AND BRIGHT DUNGEONS LIFT
OF SWIMMERS THEIR LOST MORNING EYES
AND OCEAN RIVERS, CHURNING, SHIFT
GREEN BORDERS UNDER STRANGER SKIES

STEADILLY AS A SHELL SECRETES
ITS BEATING LEAGUES OF MONOTONE
OR AS MANY WATERS TROUGH THE SUN'S
RED KELSON PAST THE CAPE'S WHITE STONE

CREATION'S BLITHE AND PETALED WORD
DIALOGUE WITH EYES UNHEARD
WITH LOUNGED GODDESS - WHEN SHE ROSE
HER SMILE UNSEARCHABLE REPOSE

WAITING, AFIRE, WHAT NAME, UNSPOKE
I CANNOT CLAIM: LET THY WAVES REAR
MORE SAVAGE THAN THE DEATHS OF KINGS
SOME SPLINTERED GARLAND FOR THE SEER

BEYOND SIROCCOS HARVESTING
THE SOLSTICE THUNDERS, CREPT AWAY
LIKE A CLIFF SWINGING OR A SAIL
FLUNG INTO APRIL'S INMOST DAY

CREATION'S BLITHE AND PETALED WORD
DIALOGUE WITH EYES UNHEARD
WITH LOUNGED GODDESS - WHEN SHE ROSE
HER SMILE UNSEARCHABLE REPOSE

STILL FERVID COVENANT, BELLE ISLE
UNFOLDED FLOATING DAIS BEFORE
WHICH RAINBOWS TWINE CONTINUAL HAIR
BELLE ISLE, WHITE ECHO OF THE OAR

THE IMAGED WORD, IT IS, THAT HOLDS
HUSHED WILLOWS ANCHORED IN ITS GLOW
IT IS UNBETRAYABLE REPLY
WHOSE ACCENT NO FARREWELL CAN KNOW

CREATION'S BLITHE AND PETALED WORD
DIALOGUE WITH EYES UNHEARD
WITH LOUNGED GODDESS - WHEN SHE ROSE
HER SMILE UNSEARCHABLE REPOSE

[according to the poem „Voyages“ by Hart Crane,
music by val3]

WHETHER OR NOT (WE FIND WHAT WE ARE SEEKING)
I SHALL FORGET YOU PRESENTLY, MY DEAR
YOUR LITTLE MONTH, YOUR LITTLE HALF A YEAR
SO MAKE THE MOST OF THIS, YOUR LITTLE DAY
ERE I FORGET, OR DIE, OR MOVE AWAY
WHETHER OR NOT WE FIND WHAT WE ARE SEEKING
IT IS IDLE, BIOLOGICALLY SPEAKING

AND WE ARE DONE FOREVER, BY AND BY
IF YOU ENTREAT ME WITH YOUR LOVELIEST LIE
I SHALL FORGET YOU, AS I SAID, BUT NOW
I WILL PROTEST YOU WITH MY FAVORITE VOW

I WOULD INDEED THAT LOVE WAS LONGER-LIVED
AND OATH WAS NOT SO BRITTLE AS IT IS
BUT SO IT IS, AND NATURE HAS CONTRIVED
TO STRUGGLE ON WITHOUT A BREAK - THUS FAR
WHETHER OR NOT WE FIND WHAT WE ARE SEEKING
IT IS IDLE, BIOLOGICALLY SPEAKING

AND WE ARE DONE FOREVER, BY AND BY
IF YOU ENTREAT ME WITH YOUR LOVELIEST LIE
I SHALL FORGET YOU, AS I SAID, BUT NOW
I WILL PROTEST YOU WITH MY FAVORITE VOW

WHETHER OR NOT WE FIND WHAT WE ARE SEEKING
IT IS IDLE, BIOLOGICALLY SPEAKING

[according to the poem „I Shall Forget You, Presently, My Dear“
by Edna St. Vicent Millay,
music by val3]
