PJESME IZ 50TIH I 60 TIH NASTALE U RANIJIM DECENIJAMA
Mnoge pjesme koje se nalaze na top listama 50tih i 60tih godina zapravo su mnogo starije, dakle većinom između 20tih i 40tih godina, no neke od njih potiču čak iz 19. stoljeća. Dakle, i tada je vladao, s vremena na vrijeme, neki retro-trand. Ovdje su uglavnom pjesme koje su bile, uz možda svega nekoliko izuzetaka, na američkim i britanskim top listama. No, čitajući pažljivo ova dva spiska, možemo saznati neke zanimljivosti i o pjesmama nastalim izvan engleskog govornog područja. Nekoliko prrimjera. Oni stariji sjećaju se starog hita prve postave Novih fosila – „Rozamunda“. Je li u pitanju austrijska, talijanska ili pak švicarska pjesma? Ne. Radi se o češkoj pjesmi iz 1934., vjerovatno najpopularnijijoj, u originalu „Škoda lasky“, kompozitora Jaromira Vejvode. Jednu pjesmu znamo iz jedne reklame – „What a Difference Day Makes“. Je li riječ o američkoj pjesmi iz 70tih? Ne. Riječ je o pjesmi koja dolazi iz španjolskog govornog područja. Objavljena je izvorno također 1934., a komponirala ju je jedna žena, Maria Grever. Hipici su 60tih godina tresli svoje kosurine uz zvuke „C.C. Rider“. Je li ta 'hipi' pjesma nastala sredinom 60tih? Ne. Nastala je davno prije, još u dvadesetim godinama. Da li su Beatlesi 1961. za svoj prvi single odabrali neku suvremenu stvar? Ne. „My Bonnie“ je pjesma iz 19. stoljeća. Ni drugi single, „Ain't She Sweet“ nije bio jako nov – datira iz 1927. godine. Oba su postala top 30 hitovi tri godine kasnije, jedan na US, drugi na UK top listi. Beatlesima je snimanje ovih ploča omogućio Bert Kaempfert (navodno na sugestiju Ive Robića). Njegov pak hit „Bye Bye Blues“ spomenut u prošlom postu ustvari potiče iz 1930. godine. Elvis Presley započeo je karijeru sa dvije retro pjesme iz 40tih: „That's All Right“/“Blue Moon of Kentucky“. Jedan od njegovih najvećih hitova, „It's Now or Never“, potiče iz 19. stoljeća. Frank Sinatra je pjesmu „Old Macdonald Had a Farm“ doveo na top listu 101 godinu nakon prvog objavljivanja. Apsolutni hit je vjerovatno Solomon King, sa „She Wears My Ring“, koja je na top liste dospjela nakon 106 godina.
Među kompozitorima ovih pjesama nalaze se i jedan čuveni glumac, Charles Chaplin (on je komponirao pjesmu „Smile“, najpoznatiju u izvođenju Nat 'King' Cole-a, te jedan potpredsjednik SAD, Charles Gates Dawes, koji je autor muzike Cliff Richardove „It's All In the Game“.
