LED lights and photovoltaic power generation systems are introduced at the Japnese station

In Japan , there is a rising trend for the electricity of the commercial power station accounting for about 20% of the rail operators. To stop this trend , companies are beginning to use photovoltaic power generation system and LED lights at the station.

Of which , the “green station” project promoted by JR East Japan is a good example. The first demonstration station of the project is Tokyo Yotsuya Station ( Figure 1 ) . The station has become the first green station on the spring of 2012 , the photovoltaic systems are installed on the roof of the station and the adjacent commercial facilities, the roof can only provide 50kW power station .

JR East Japan is promoting the “green station ” project using the energy-saving technologies and renewable energy. The first demonstration station is Yotsuya Station where LED lights and solar power generation systems were introduced.

The LED lights are adopted as the lighting of the Yotsuya Station and hall. The electronic display showing station names and boards and monitor’s backlight used by the drivers also use LED. Also installed skylights , the lights can be turn off during the day , the household fuel cell is used in the station facilities.

The aim is to reduce CO2 emissions at Yotsuya Station by approximately 40% over 2008 through these measures. According to JR East introduced , the environmental station will gradually be increased in the future . Following Yotsuya Station,the next stop will be the environmental JR Chiba Makuhari Station .

Energy savings by controlling the lighting

The traditional fluorescent and incandescent bulbs replaced with LED lights is to cut electricity consumption , controlling the LED lights according to the situation will be able to further reduce power consumption . For example, Tokyu Corporation Jiyugaoka station tried to import Panasonic LED lights and its control system .

For example, in the morning rush hours , in order to make people awake, the color temperature tune into about 5000K ” daylight ” , the color temperature will be transferred to about 4000K in the evening, become ordinary ” white – warm white .” the color temperature is tune into 3000K ” bulb color .” to make people calm down at night.

In addition, 494pcs LED lights were installed the station Jiyugaoka platform, 238 pcs were installed in the lobby , 290 pcs were installed in the station rooms and toilets, 152 in the station stores . the 47 light sensor and 168 personal sense sensors were also installed.

Also uses organic EL lighting

In addition to LED lights,the Jiyugaoka station also uses organic EL lamp. Panasonic said, “This is the first attempt ” that organic EL lamp is used at the station.

The flux of the organic EL lighting module is 48lm, luminous efficiency is 17lm / W, life is about 10,000 hours , the light emitting surface is 80mm square. The lamps installed with this module in the wicket is 19 groups ( a total are 184 modules ) , installed at the ticket window is 10 groups ( a total are 92 modules ) .

Why the Freedom Hill station using organic EL lamp and LED lamp is to make a total reduction of the electricity and CO2 emissions by 25%.

By replacing with the LED light and an organic EL light, all lighting electricity consumption reductions ” will be changed according to the situation at the Jiyugaoka station , but the average reduction is about 30% , up to approximately 37% reduction ” ( Panasonic ) . Coupled with the introduction of lighting control systems,a total of about 50 % of the lighting power consumption can be reduced . Because lighting electricity consumption accounted for about 50% of the entire station , thus enabling the station overall electricity consumption reduction is about 25 % of the target .

For Panasonic , in addition to energy savings , there are a purpose, which is to identify the facing issues and find solutions in the promotion and popularization of the new technology . the problem of the organic EL light has been discovered . Compared with LED lights , the organic EL light in terms of cost , brightness and efficiency , there are still problems, ” it is equivalent to the level of technology of the LED lights from 2003 to 2004. Although it can be used as a local lighting , lighting does not work as a whole ” ( Matsushita ) . Therefore, Panasonic plans to import this trial as an opportunity to clear issues , and then to further improve product performance.
