Recently, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published a report on the life of the solid-state lighting product and reliability analysis. What has been clearly pointed out that there is no perfect evaluation way in the current industry standard to define the system life of LED lamps In the report.
Up to now, we have waked on a long way about the development of LED components and systems testing and evaluation criteria of the LED industry. However, as the DOE reported, there is currently no way to provide a very feasible way to assess the expected life of the lamp in the industry. Although lumen maintenance testing and planning standards have been improved, but it is still difficult to quantify for the life of the drive and system-level color maintenance.
DOE’s new report aims to define the existing standards and planning standards, and analysts to point out the existing defects defining LED lighting performance. According to the report, the problem mainly exists in: the lumen attenuation is used as the sole elimination mechanism of the LED lamps in the existing methods, there is no standardized assessment methods to resolve the components in addition to the sources.
IES LM-80 standard has defined the testing methods of the white LED component. LM-80 has regulated the lumen attenuation standard in detail, also has defined the colors maintenance of the component and the color drift. IES TM-21 standards adds the approach planning the life beyond 6000 hours LM-80 test hours required.
In addition, IESLM-84 standard will define lamps or the lighting level lumen and color maintenance measurement method ,which also provides approach planning the life that is based on the data of LM-84 lamp. Thereafter, IES may also add lighting planning approach for the TM-28.
The report does not provide a comprehensive lifetime or reliability of measurement and planning solutions. Report said, as the LED and SSL technology matures, the problem will gradually disappear, but the product will continue to be subject to the impact of a variety of mechanisms and eventually will been eliminated.
DOE also said that as the product life expectancy decline from 30 years to 10-15 years, industry conditions will likely improve. This is because the trend improving lighting cycles is getting shorter. However, the life expectancy of the lighting shortened will produce more waste materials, affecting sustainability.
Topics has not covered in the report include that the mixed color LED used or the non-contact LED phosphor technology relying on the blue light LED affect the lighting life and the reliability. Existing industry standards such as LM-80 only defines the testing the methods of the fluorescence conversion type white LED. However, other system architectures is increasingly popular in some application.
At the same time, there are a large number of high-quality LED manufacturers pouring into the international markets,of which the lead lighting is just one, lead Lighting adopts high brightness SMD as the light source of the LED tube and highly integrated and high brightness COB as the light source of the LED flood light, which fully guaranteed stability and soft light of the LED tube light and octahedron breadth and brightness irradiation range of the LED flood light, while the low voltage constant current driver convert the AC into DC so that improve energy efficiency of the LED tube light and LED flood light and reduce the waste heat energy and stroboscopic effect exciting the human eye, the most important is that the LED lighting without adding mercury and other heavy metals harmful to our body and pollution the environment, that’s why the LED light is famous for energy-saving and environmental protection ,login http://www.ledclan.com to learn more features and uses of the LED tube light and surf www.lead-lighting.com to know more awesome LED floodlights and other LED lighting.
