Game on
A recent political cartoon of the day shows Mitt Romney standing on the bow of the ship "Republican Election Hope" — obviously the Titanic — which is sitting on the bottom of the ocean floor.
He is shouting "I'm King of the World."
It reminded me of what a hard fight the coming election is going to be.
A good example of how much it will mean for the Democrats to have the media on their side was shown the other night between the halves of the college basketball playoff for the national title. There was a captive audience anxiously awaiting the second half of the game. I imagine that this audience was composed of Democrats, Republicans and probably a large majority of "Independents." These were just dedicated sports fans waiting to see the rest of a good game.
Then came a really well-done five-minute interview of President Barack Obama at the White House. He was shown as just a nice guy who loved basketball and very interested in his daughter's basketball team. It even had videos of him coaching her team and attending her games. No politics were mentioned, and he came across as such a nice person that even I was ready to vote for him!
Good old CBS pulled this off beautifully and it didn't cost the Obama campaign a penny. I don't know who thought this up, but it was brilliant and well done.
