A photographic or optical filter that polarizes the light passing through it, used chiefly for reducing reflections and improving contrast. Two polarizing filters are often used together, such that rotation of one of them results in a neutral density filter of variable density
The polarizing filter used with most modern cameras is a circular polarizer. The first stage of the polarizer is a linear filter which filters out light that is linearly polarized in a specific direction.
A common filter that removes reflections from water, glass and other surfaces, it also increases colour saturation.
(polarizing filters) Used on camera lenses to selectively remove excess light.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3, or LX3, is a high-end compact "point and shoot" camera launched by Panasonic in late 2008 to succeed the LX2.
Slice of Heaven
Another Bonbeach photo. Sorry, but there hasn't been much opportunity to do other things. The weather is so extraordinary and unpredictable that when the sun shines, however briefly, we pack the children up and head to the beach!
I thought I'd try something a little different with the composition. The end result is unfortunately not great since the family are mere dots near the horizon but I do like the sense of solitude (although the beach was far from empty).
Polarising filter is responsible, as always, for bringing out the best in the colour. Otherwise it's straight out of the camera, with minor tweak to adjust the white balance.
actual pixel size 2
The Panasonic LX3 in Intelligent Auto mode. This is cropped out of the captured image to get an idea of the resolution. The original image size is 3776 x 2520 pixel at 180 dpi, this view is 842 x1068 pixel at 180 dpi. I cut this out at of a screen view at 'actual pixel ' zoom. The photo was taken with a polarising filter. The EXIF header states ISO 80-shutter 1/400th s f3.2 focal length 5.10mm.
