A mentod of printing compariable to using a stencil. The background design is painted on the screen with printing paste and the dye is printed through the exposed fabric. Different colors require spearate screens.
Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate.

start with an image...
convert to indexed, 6 or 7 colours, no forced, no dither
convert back to rgb
apply median, middle radius filter (e.g radius 20)
You should now have a posterized image.. but the colours will be a bit rubbish.
for each colour band,
- use magic wand and click on a pixel in that band in the background layer
- use select-similar to pick up other regions with same colour
- new layer via copy
- add a new hue/saturation adjustment layer (group with previous layer, i.e. the layer we just created)
- tweak colour, saturation and hue (with colourize if needed)
Screen print
This was my final screen print for serigraphy. I like the lines. I printed a few on a tan paper that look pretty cool and older. After a horrible registration mishap with my second cat print, this one worked out.. alright. I might put a few up on Etsy for fun.
