Begun during the Great Depression in 1933, Byrne Dairy's first product was high-quality milk - delivered to homes and stores by horse-drawn wagons. Today, Byrne Dairy, distributes its milk, cream and ice cream throughout the entire Eastern Seaboard and delivers its longer-life dairy products to all states East of the Mississippi. This truck was making a delivery to Rite Aid in Putnam County, Carmel,NY.
Former home of The Dairy Fountain
When I was 12, this building was divided into two businesses, a grocery store on the left, and a drug store luncheonette on the right called The Dairy Fountain.
This is where I would pick up my bundles of The Roanoke Times at 5:00 AM. I would sit on that curb and fold them for delivery on my paper route.
