Katarina Hager’s clothing protects her from the flying dust that results from vigorously scraping plaster from the walls of Building 3 during the final (2003) excavation season in the BACH area. This movement is very different from the detailed scraping of plaster from walls during the micromorphological and conservation investigation (see CVP2005_6_23_micromorph.mov). Katarina’s aim in using the trowel this way is to remove all the plaster from the walls so the underlying bricks and mortar can be documented. During this process, her hands will get tired and dry, but archaeologists tend not to wear gloves when excavating so they can be as sensitive as possible to the changing textures of the deposits they are digging.
