A camera raw image file contains minimally processed data from the image sensor of either a digital camera, image scanner, or motion picture film scanner. Raw files are so named because they are not yet processed and therefore are not ready to be printed or edited with a bitmap graphics editor.
DNG is based on the TIFF/EP standard format, and mandates significant use of metadata. Exploitation of the file format is royalty free; Adobe have published a license allowing anyone to exploit DNG,Adobe: and have also stated that there are no known intellectual property encumbrances or license

Hockey: RAW, as shot
This one got severly over-exposed. I focused on the player at center ice, and just kept the shutter button halfway down as I panned with him towards the goal... unfortunately the camera doesn't appear to update the metering info, even though I had continual focus turned on. So it was metered for the center ice where it was a bit darker with more players and graphics on the ice, resulting in this highly washed out image when I finally took the shot.
New Camera!
Well...not new per se, but new for me. I ordered it used off of Adorama, got the battery grip and camera for around $200 combined. This was the last midrange Film SLR that Canon ever produced. The lens has been in my collection for some time now.
Update: the parents greatly disapprove of the purchase of this camera. Oh well...sucks for them.
