The Ridgeley Bridge - Cumberland, Maryland
I carefully leveled my tripod and measured out with some overlap making a diptych panoramic with a 4x5 camera of the Ridgely Bridge on the North Branch of the Potomac in Cumberland, Maryland back in 2001 or so. Shooting a few Polaroids helped get this as close as I could. I shot this on much beloved Polaroid Type-55 film - which sadly is no longer being made. I've seen a few sheets on the internet for the high price of $10/sheet now.
I shot this image standing in Cumberland, Maryland, on the other side of the river and bridge (to the left) is Ridgeley, West Virginia. In recent years Ridgeley has been plagued by a series of difficulties that have raised questions on the town's overall quality of life. As of 2008, the town has no grocery stores or banks (though it does have a convenience store). It does, however, have 16 active alcoholic beverage licenses, an average of one for every 47.6 residents.
